There was this politician who came to the reservation to try to gain the tribal
members votes for the upcoming election.
The bus pulls up and as the door opened he says to the trial members,
"Hello, all my good friends."
Their response was "Hoolah, Hoolah, Hoolah!"
With that response he felt good and went on to say, "I promise to build
schools to educate your children!"
Again, they responded, "Hoolah, Hoolah, Hoolah!"
"I promise to build new homes for everyone."
Again they responded, "Hoolah, Hoolah, Hoolah!"
"I promise everyone will have employment!"
Again they responded, "Hoolah, Hoolah, Hoolah!"
I promise you a medical clinic to take care of you!"
"Hoolah, Hoolah, Hoolah!"
He went on to say, "I understand you have a bull farm where you raise bulls
and sell them to the public, can I see it?"
They take him to their farm and as he was going to get out of the bus a
councilman stopped him and said, "When you get out of the bus be careful
and not step in that Hoolah!" Yikes

A BAD DAY??
When you THINK you have a bad day, remember this one from a young
mother...
I was taking a shower when my 2-year-old son came into the
bathroom and wrapped himself in toilet paper. "Although he made a mess,
he looked adorable, so I ran for my camera and took a few shots. They
came out so well that I had copies made and included one with each of our
Christmas cards. Days later, a relative called about the picture, laughing
hysterically and suggesting I take a closer look. Puzzled, I stared at the
photo and was shocked to discover that in addition to my son, I had
captured my reflection in the mirror wearing nothing but a camera!" Yikes

An acquaintance of mine who is a physician told this story about her then-four-year-old
daughter. On the way to preschool, the doctor had left her
stethoscope on the car seat, and her little girl picked it up and began
playing with it. Be still, my heart, thought my friend, my daughter wants to
follow in my footsteps! Then the child spoke into the instrument: "Welcome
to McDonald's. May I take your order?" Yikes

Love
What is it?
Do you truly know?
Can you tell me how it makes you
feel? '
Is your love genuine?
Are you trustworthy? Do you think
of yourself this way?
Loyal, Can you be loyal? Faithful?
Committed?
Can you prove her wrong? I truly
hope so!
Do you miss me when we are apart?
Do you care? About me? Like I care
about you?
Is honesty your best policy too?
Surely it is mine!
Is love strong?
Does it really stick toeether through
thick and thin?
Can it overcome a horrid storm that
blinds and pulls and tears aoart?
How tough is your love? Toueh
enough to not let anything come be
tween us?
The man I need would be patient, car- '
ing, understanding, forgiving, faith
ful and loyal.
Don't forget about Honestv either!
My love is tougher than nails
It is stronger than the wind
Everlasting!
I can forgive and I can foreet
I can accept that no one is perfect, as
I am far from it!
I do not expect anyone to be Derfecr.
Just patient and lovine. caring and
kind!
Do you believe in yourself?
Have faith in yourself, that we can
have it together. !

To the editor,
Myself, along with others, were
wondering just who is in charge of
management on this Reservation?
The Council already admitted that
these speculators and management
don't report to them. Or are they
ashamed to admit that they do? The
Tribal Members sure don't have any
say so. So who is management ac
countable to? They must report to
their own secret society. It's gotten
to where they don't even care what
Tribal Members "think". Because if
you listen to them talk, they always
refer to the tribal membership as "you
guys" or "the Indians", it's only"we"
when they need a vote for more
money.
Take Economic Development
for example. Aren't they getting paid
through the Tribe, to develop busi
ness for the Tribes? Now I hear they
set up a business for themselves. If it
wasn't done on tribal time, as they
claim, just what were they doing on
tribal time, to get paid? The same way
a past housing maintenance person,
not from here, did while building his
own house, with the then housing
managers blessings. This same man
ager told me at gaming, that this guy
left them "one big mess" when he left
housing and got a cushy job at gam
ing. Now there are numerous com
plaints against his replacement who
was "trained" by the last guy, with
management looking the other way
again. This is how they grow their
own "little" good ole boys. This
bunch keeps demanding insurance
and license from tribal contractors to
work on the reservation, to learn how
to be like white contractors. Which is
good, but do those who are doing the
demanding have a Joumeymans card
and license just like white contrac
tors? These guys probably think that
a Joumeymans card is the tribal credit
card they use to travel for more train
ing. This is the same bunch that kept
denying small business grants to tribal
members, who kept having to clear
one obstacle after another until they
all gave up. Not so long ago they said
everybody had to make a business
plan on thier own, and were encour
aged to apply for grant money for off
the reservation. They all turn deaf
when asked, what happened to the
original funds that were meant for
tribal members. Now I'm told that
they used other tribal employees to
write their business plans for them.
And Gene Keane, who we all thought
was hired to be helping all members
in small business, helped write grants
for these "managers" personal busi
ness. Could he be involved in their
personal business venture? But then
again "Conflict of interest" means
nothing to this management and
Council. If these "managers" can't do
what they demand of others, what and
who qualifies them to ruin other
peoples plans? As one council mem
ber told me a few months ago "I don't
know why you people are fighting so
hard for another casino with Indian
businesses, a certain family is going
to own it all anyway".
Whoever is over this depart
ment, and other departments, doesn't
seem to be able to maintain control
over those under him. But, it's com
mon knowledge that this whole
clique, has and always will wash each
others back.
Now back to gaming, person-

To the editor,
Hello from Pastor Rick, long
ago there was a king called Josiah.
He was a good man. In the course of
time he discovered that in the eyes of
God he was in fact doing badly. Some
, workmen were doing a remodeling
job on the temple of the Lord. They
discovered the book of law, the To
rah. The king read the book and dis
covered that he and his people were
way off the mark of doing the will of
God. So, he cleaned up his life and
ordered the nation to get their act to
gether. False gods and their temples
came down. Powerful people lost
their jobs. So, in the end King Josiah
had the look of success. Then one day
an army was going through his coun
try to get to the other side. The king
ordered his army to meet them. The
Egyptian king crushed king Josiah's
army and killed him. On the surface
the story seems to say why bother
with being faithful. You will still die
in the end. The truth is the king gave
everything to God except his being

king and how to lead a people. He had
it right, right up to the point of doing
wrong.
From the top, down leadership
and a people need to hold on to what
is good and honorable and to be con
sistent in life that is not right, then
their choice is to fix it or step down
as a leader. By-the-way, the story of
Josiah is in the Bible 2 Kings Chap
ter 23. Read it today.

ally I think this Govenors veto of
I Iood River, may have been a bless
ing in disguise. I hope people remem
ber the Apple Dumpling Gang
showed their true colors. Like the be
hind closed doors deals, to give a big
share of gaming to Madras and
KahNecTa and gaming management.
Following the Pioneer lately, I won- .
dcr if this small group in power in
Madras, are the ones our "gang" were
so eager to make these behind closed
door deals with.
Who knows what kind of "se
cret deals" our negotiators, and
Apples Dumplings, along with their
consultant buddies, would have
made. Most likely anything to satisfy .
the Non-Indian. Just so one of them
could do their "Little Chief dance" for
their new found friends. It's bad
enough that this casino mostly sup
ports the non-Indian, and KaNeefa
management which seems to be suck
ing dry other enterprises to stay afloat.
The tribe would be supporting the
towns of Hood River, Madras and
KahNeeTa. Look at all the services
that our leaders were promising to
these towns. Like more fire and po
lice protection, better roads, utilities,
more housing for employees, when
things like that are needed here, but
are always being threatened to be
slashed on the reservation, unless you
vote the Apples way. Look how little
the membership gets now, except for ' .
a lot of promises. With more White
people and more managers to support
and with the accountability and hon
esty that this regine has shown, I think
members would be getting shafted
even more.
