Veterans have earned certain
benefits as a result of their mili
tary service. Survivors and de
pendents of veterans may also
have benefits available. However,
these benefits are available only
to those who apply for them.
The Jefferson County Veter
ans Service Office (JCVSO) is
committed to serving Jefferson
County veterans, their depen
dents and survivors. As part of
this service, JCVSO will be do
ing outreach to Warm Springs on
Wednesday afternoons from 1
pm to 4 pm, in the Senior Center.

VIST-Visual Impairment Service For Vets

(Visual Impairment Services Team)
Do you know a veteran who is Blind
or Visually Impaired? People who are
losing or have lost the ability to see, to
drive a car, and to read normal print
often feel that no one can help them.
The Department of Veterans Affairs
has programs that can help you.
The VIST (Visual Impairment Ser
vices Team) program is one of the
services that can assist you with your
problems with the loss of vision. This
program is sponsored by the Depart
ment of Veterans Affairs. Full time
coordinators are located at VA Medi
cal Centers in Boise, Portland, Seattle,
Spokane and Tacoma. Part-time coor
dinators are able to assist in all other
locations,
In addition, Blind Rehab Outpatient
Specialists (BROS) are located in Port
land and Seattle. BROS provides ini
tial assessments and follow-up training
for veterans participating in blind reha
bilitation. BROS also provides imme
diate needs training in local communities.

5, 2000 at the Mt. View Hospital in
Madras, Oregon due to natural
causes. Mrs. Johnson was born to
parents Johnny and Sally
(Squiemphen) Sam on August 21,
1929 at Zig Zag, Oregon. She was
a lifetime resident of Warm Springs
and also an enrolled member of the
Confederated Tribes of Warm
Springs.

dren. Besides raising four of her own
she took in several foster children
and w as raising her grandchildren of
" her deceased daughter.

brothers, her parents and daughter
