SpilyayTymoo News for the o5 This message is from the Vince and Larry Crash Dummy Website by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. The Education Com mittee at the Health and Wellness Center would like you to continue celebrating motor vehicle safety month that was in October by wear ing your seat belt and not drinking and driving. Drinking and driving don't mix. Drinking and driving don't mix. Drinking and driving don't mix. Nomattcrhowmanytimesvou've heard it, there are people who just don't get it. In fact, every 30 min utes, someone in this country dies in an alcohol-related crash. Every 30 minutes! And last year alone over one million people were injured in alcohol-related traffic crashes. Larry and I want to tell everyone kids, parents and all licensed drivers why no one should drive a car, or ride in a car with someone who is under the effects of alcohol. It just doesn't make sense. Even to a dummy. Questions and answers about drinking and driving. How does alcohol affect a person's ability to drive? The more a person drinks, the more their ability to make crucial driving decisions becomes impaired. After just one drink, a driver can begin to lose their ability to perform the tasks necessary to drive a car: braking, steering, changing lanes, and using judgment to adjust to changing road conditions. At a certain point, a driver will become legally intoxi cated and can be arrested for attempt ing to operate a motor vehicle. When I first came to the Lord (April 12, 1983), it was six months after my husband. By Easton's ex ample I accepted the Lord. We had a pastor when we lived in Beaverton that truly taught us what compassion is. Whenever we missed church services, Pastor Bob was call ing or visiting us to find out why we never came. He always had a way to ask if we were still saved, for ex ample: "Hello, brother Easton, do you still love the Lord?!", "Sister Tina, are you still praising the Lord? !" "Are you still saved?!" Usually it was because we didn't have gas. He would slip one of us some gas money to put in our car, not asking if we needed it but giving whole heartedly . The Facility Management staffs biggest challenge for 1 999 is the Y2K problem. The year 2000 computer problem is the inability of most com- fiuters to process date information ater than December 31, 1999. With the Health and Wellness Center be ing a newer facility the standard tech nology involves numerous comput erized programs and H VAC systems. Our department is responsible for making certain the systems welcome in the new millennium without a glitch. Presently our Y2K problems are successfully being resolved. To address this challenge our ap pointed Year 2000 Readiness Team has been tasked with carrying our pre-contingency and contingency planning. Facility Management is active on the Readiness Team. We assisted in the sponsorship and organization of the three day "Cleaning Strides Toward the Year 2000" conference at Kah-nee-tah. The conference, which was tailored for cleaning industry workers, re ceived regional recognition. Ap proximately twelve regional and lo cal cleaning workers received certi fication at the, on site, Custodial Technician Level I training we hosted in August 1999. Was something said or done to discourage their walk? We are the example to our children and the ungodly and the backsliders. If we are caught talking about some one, is it good? If we want to see changes for the good, what is being done about it? Do we walk the talk? When we pray, are we sincere? In stead of being envious or jealous, do we praise God for the other person's good fortune? I thank God for my sister-in-law Becky for blessing George Sr. with a pickup for all the help he had done for her. I thank God for my husband being able to work.
