Zoo day at ECE included ducks, chickens,
viewing and touching. ECE Children were
on Friday, morning April 23.

The Early Childhood Education
of Warm Springs, was host to "Week
Of The Young Child" on April 19
23. Events during the week included
cultural displays, story telling, a
carnival, a parent appreciation lun
cheon, a book exchange, a parade
and zoo day.
During the Cultural Day, the
Madras Middle School's Spanish
Dance Group came to ECE and per
formed for the staff and children.
Cultural exhibits were brought in
and displayed throughout the day.
On Career Day, vehicles from local
agencies were in the parking lot of
the ECE and kids were able to walk
through and visit with Smokey the
Bear, McGruff, Sparky and other
representatives.
There was an information fair
during the parent appreciation lun
cheon with booths from ECE,
C.H.E.T., and a number of booths
from Indian Health Service. The
parade was a big hit with the theme,
"Our Books Come To Life." The
Bridges to Peace Art Museum, visited
on Thursday evening. During the final
day of Week Of The Young Child,
there were a numberof animals at the
ECE zoo. There were snakes, ducks,
chickens, guinea pigs, a puppy, a cat,
a ferret, a horse and a cow, along
with various stuffed animals that the
children brought in.
Ballots were cast during the Week
Of the Young Child, to choose a
Hero of Young Children Award
winner. People were asked to vote
for others in the community that they
felt had worked above and beyond
their job to improve the quality of
life for our community's young
children.
This year's winner is Dawn Smith,
Principal for Warm Springs Elemen
tary School. Bernicc Mitchell, Julie

Quaid, and Adeline Miller were all
runners-up. Also nominated were
Carol Allison, Gladys Squicmphen,
Nancy Seyler; Wanda Berry, Sue
Matters, Judy Budd, Jane Kirkpatrick,
Johanna Martin, Teneasha Adams,
Sammy Allen, Captain Moody, Dr.
Donnell, Joni David, Nola
Queahpama, Lucinda Green, Leo
Hulm, and Rosa Graybael. The Out
standing Volunteer Award went to
Sue Matters of ECE.

Of The Child was a great success!
