Simtustus enjoyed vacation to Tahiti To the editor, To all Warm Springs relatives and friends. I thought I'd write a few lines for letting everyone know that I went to Tahiti for my trip that I have won at Indian Head Casino. So I kept saving for a whole year to figure out the plans when to go there. I planned on February 12 to 20, 1999. 1 didn't have anyone to take, so I asked for my daughter, her grandmother, if I could take her with me. She said No. I asked another person if he could go with me (Andrew Smith). I thought I'd have got everything ready. But no he never had any paperwork done for his passport. So I left him home and went by myself. I headed to Port land airport just in time for my plane flight, got my tickets ready, headed to Oakland, CA. I got in Oakland 1 hour 42 minutes. I spent all my time waiting for my next plane fight! About 6 hours later here I go again, headed all the way to Tahiti. I slept for 6 hours. Still flying over oceans, it was so dark. About 3-hours later, I saw the lights in Tahiti Papeete air port, landed and walked toward the gate. I had to show my passport to get by security, who stamped my pass port book. The weather was warm, and it wasn't yet morning. I had to figure out where to start looking for my ride, just then the lady was behind me and turning me around and looked at the reading boards. My last name, this lady didn't know how to say it at all. So I laughed anyway got on the bus tour to drive me to the cruise ship to Tahiti Island. The weather felt real cool and some were warm. It took me and all the people that were on the ship. I was on top of the ship looking out to the ocean water, how blue it was. The island itself was big. It took 15-20 minutes to get there. Got off the ship, got my bags off the cart, while doing the same thing looking for my name again. Wasn't that long to wait. But Court Notices it was so hot on the island. I asked the lady where is the store to get some thing to drink! She know I was get ting thirsty, said I was because it was so hot. I didn't have time for that so I got on the bus to get to the Bal-Hai, that's where I stayed. All the people don't speak En glish very much but very little. They use their own language, they were so nice and friendly. Finally I got a room to stay in. I tried to get some sleep it was too warm inside and outside. I was so tired and lazy. I spent all my time having fun on the Island. I went gift shop to buy some thing for while I was there on the Island. The prices are so expensive, even the money is different than US money. I had to change the money to use their money. It's funny, I never saw any coins, paper money in Ta hiti. First I rode on speed canoe to see around the Island, I thought they gave me water gear to wear. They make me wear it. When along to go speed canoe for awhile, stopped and I went in the water and under so the other people did the same. Going under I seen sharks and I jumped out of the water. Back in water, nothing happened. The sharks just going circles around themselves. All the people said they look so friendly. We were there for half hours, then left. A couple of miles down we stopped to look at the dolphins for a couple of pictures of them. Then we all headed to Fantasy Island for about an hour then back to Bali Hai. I took pictures where I stayed at, a lot of pictures around the Island all week. I lot one film on the high mountain lookout. God one package of scenic films. I picture some Hawaii dancers and the following day I did my share having fun, going swimming, went under water seen all different fish, all col ors of fish and rocks. When to end to blue water it was deep. It was pretty going under and I did ride the bike to. Cost was 1,600 which was $16.00 1 took all that time riding around the Island alone. Still took a lot of pic tures on the mountains, some oceans, pineapple tree, flower plants. Every thing I kept going to the fisherman and his helper for riding in the speed canoe and the other large beach where the people go. I really enjoyed riding the boat and fisherman & helper. Sometime I walk to close town to buy a little, to eat lunch and drink just like here USA meals. There is different, I ate pineapple, coconut, orange, canta loupe and alot of meals. Well my vacation is almost over so I have to leave here to go to Papeele Town for one day. I have to cross back from Tahiti. There is so much people's got enough to walk pass them. Was about my time to leave there at 0440 a.m. That real early, had to get my tickets Early Bird, got on the plane at 0630 a.m. till 0700 to leave. Sol slept most of the way. Got to cross to Oakland, CA. It was so much fog, rain, had a hard time getting the plane to land on the airport runway. So we flew over Oakland around the circle for awhile. : Now, I'm off the plane and have to : get checked in for passport again, j Had to get to another plan to Port- : land, OR. Waited for 1 hour & half. Headed to Portland for about 1 hours 25 minutes. At last back in Portland. : Just in time. I really had a lot of fun time dur- ing my vacation. Thought about go- : ing back again, not going by myself. I'm going to choose someone. I re- ; ally liked the trips. For what I want Tahiti or Hawaii. That is what my ; plans will be next time. And thanks Indian Head Casino for this trip, for : giving me the opportunity. I'm really i happy for myself, agai n thank you ! ! j Sincerely, Vincent Simtustus I Alexandria Henry Petitioner 1 vs. Randolph Scott . The Indian Warrior - The Veterans Corner VA Needs To Know AbOUt.Your Health Insurane 1 1 mrl-' 11 4- i r 1 Aw 5 fey Ill - ' Department of Veterans Affairs Nonservice-Connected Veteran: Do You Have Medical Insurance? You will be asked that question when you apply for VA health care. Under the law, VA is required to determine if the government's cost of your care can be recovered from companies providing group and individual health insurance. If you are covered by such a policy or are listed as an eligible dependent on your spouse's policy, you will be asked for this information. You will Not Be Billed By VA or Your Insurance Co. VA's authority to collect insurance benefits applies only to the insurance carrier. VA will not send you a bill for amounts not covered by the carrier. This should not be confused with the copayment that veterans in certain income categories agree to pay VA for their medical care. VA is entitled to obtain the same benefits for its health-care services that any medical care provider would receive. Your insurance company will pay benefits directly to VA and you will not be billed for any uncollected charges. Insurance Information Is Always Needed. In most cases, VA is no different than other health-care providers who need Insurance information. To collect benefits covered by your health insurance. VA must obtain the information that appears on your health insurance identification card. Please have this card available every time you apply for care, even if you are seeking care at a private clinic that VA pays to provide you health care. If you are asked by VA for this information by mail or phone, your cooperation will be appreciated. It's The Law. VA must ask you about your health insurance. Please cooperate so that extra steps to obtain this information will not be necessary. Answering YourQucstions About VA And Health Insurance Q If I don't have to pay for my VA medical care, why docs VA have to bill my insurance Company? A While VA's Services may cost you nothing, they are paid for by federal tax dollars. The Law requires VA to recover those costs if they are covered by insurance. Q Will my eligibility for VA care be affected by my insurance? A Absolutely not. Eligibility criteria relate only to your military service and, in some cases, to income and type of medical service needed. Your entitlement to VA care does not depend on whether or not you have health insurance. Q What effect will insurance have on my report of income that determines if I'm charged for VA care? A None. Using the means test, VA takes information about your income to establish your category of eligibility for medical care. Having health insurance docs not raise your income,; not having insurance doesn't lower your income, either. Q WhateffectwillVA'sbilling have on my insurance? A Health insurance is intended to cover your needs for medical services listed in your policy and the premiums you, your spouse, or employer pay are for those services. Since you are using that policy to allow VA to recover its costs, the insurance is being used exactly as intended. Generally speaking, it should not significantly affect your rates. Q If the full cost of my care is not recovered, will I get a bill from VA or the insurance company? A No, you will not be billed for any costs that VA cannot recover unless you owe a VA means test copayment. The government covers the difference. See next question. Q When I receive care from VA, do I need to pay my policy deductible? A No. VA will absorb this deductible. This may ever satisfy your policy deductible if you later seek private medical care. If you have more questions about VA's recovery of medical costs from your insurance company, contact the Medical Administration Service at the VA medical center where you expect to be treated. Public Law 99-272 (the Consolidated Omnibus Budget Reconciliation Act of 1985) authorized VA to bill third-party health insurance carriers for the cost of medical care furnished to veterans who have no service-connected disabilities and who are covered by a health care insurance contract. Public Law 101-508 (the Budget Reconciliation Act of 1 990) extended the authority of VA to bill third party health insurance carriers for the cost of medical care provided to service connected veterans for the treatment provided for their nonservice condition and who are covered by health care insurance contract. This law amended Section 629 of Title 38, United States Code.
