Forestry has determined that
numerous areas on the Warm Springs
Indian Reservation forest are
overstocked with young trees and
need to be thinned. The
Precommcrcial Thinning Program is
seeking tribal member thinners to
submit bids for contracts. Those
submitting bids must be tribal
members, have a minimum of one
year of thinning experience, a vehicle,
atmroDriate insurance, and
knowledge of the bidding process.
They will also be required tocomplcle

Tashna Hicks, has enjoyed ROTC for the past two years and hopes
to enlist with the US Marines after she graduates.
Madras, ROTC Private First Class, member and a sophomore student at

ruary 3, at the Madras High School.

Madras High School, is the daughter
of Leroy and Maria Hicks, also of

blowdown of trees, on the Reserva
tion. The majority of this blowdown
is in the lower elevation pine ground.
Many of these trees have fallen across
roads in the forest areas. The Natural
Resources Department is planning a
salvage operation to log these trees
and will begin removing these trees
from the most frequently traveled
roads. It is requested that individuals
do not cut these trees from the roads
or for firewood since the value to the

Commercial Fishing
Today, the Compact states of
Oregon and Washington adopted the
following Zone 6 treaty Indian
commercial fishing periods for the
winter season.

Frederick William Boise, age
53 years old passed away on Janu
ary 14, 1999. Boise was born to
parents Irene (Williams) and Steve
Boise on August 4, 1 945 at Celilo,
OR. He was a lifetime resident of
Warm Springs and an enrolled
member of the Confederated Tribes
of Warm Spring.
He attend schools in Warm
Springs and Madras, OR. He spent
his life helping people and enjoying
his friends and family.
Preceding him in death are par
ents Irene & Steve Boise, brothers
Gilbert Frank, Jr., Glenn, & Rudolph
Brunoe, Bruce & Earl Boise; and
sister Mary Cook.
Survivors include brother Gilbert
Brunoe; sisters Irene Garcia of Celilo,
Estelle Lawson of AZ; and Sandra
George of Warm Springs; two neph
ews Randolph and Tony L. Boise
of Warm Springs along with nu
merous relatives and friends.
Dressing ceremony was held on
Saturday, January 16, 1999 at 3
p.m. at the Agency Longhouse with
overnight services. Larry Dick and
Alex Tohet officiated. Burial was
at the Agency Cemetery 9 a.m. on
Monday, January 15, 1999.
Sonja Rose Walsey Daniels
Sonja Rose Walsey Daniels, age
29 year old passed away on De
cember 1 1 , 1 998. Ms. Daniels was
born to parents Lillian Walsey and
Donald Isadore on May 7, 1969 at
Madras, OR. She was an enrolled
member of the Confederated Tribes
of Warm Springs. Daniels attended
schol in Warm Springs and Madras.
She later married to Albert George
Daniels and was living in Canada.
She currently was residing in Warm
Springs at the time of her passing.
Preceding her in death are one
infant daughter, her grandmother
Rosalia (Johnson) Howtopat; and
uncle Luther Danzuka.
Survivors include her husband
& four sons of Canada, mother
Lillian Walsey; brother Wesley
Smith; sisters Tiffeny. LoulaAnn
and Nikkie Smith all of Warm
Springs; grandfather Richard
Walsey of Toppenish, WA and
numerous relatives and friends.
