When all this talk about the person. We are taueht A... It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas, as the song goes. With the snow fall and that chill in the breeze it does feel that way. Everyone putting up house lights, all the stores featuring Christmas sales causing all the shopping malls to become crowded as the Christmas shoppers are out in full force. It's getting down to where its the last minute shopping. Everyone wondering, what can I get for dad? Can't get him a tie because he won't wear it. It's those kind of decisions to be made and it seems there is no way you can please ole Dad, buy him a shirt and it's too small and he hates to go to exchange it for one that fits because the crowds are just as great as before Christmas, people exchanging gifts for something else. If you give a gift certificate than they feel there is no Christmas spirit to that.. Yep! It's a dog eat dog world and we have to be stuck right in the middle of the whole thing. Even with all the frills, joy and good times that happens during Christmas. I feel glad when its all over, "O'well," even with all the frustrations and hassle I know down deep we do care and enjoy the season. It's a time to reflect back to the day's past when we worked and had association with the general public and really appreciate all the things and all the good times we had during the past year. There are times when we would not like to remember some things that happened during the past year but as time passes on we cannot overlook any of those special events that took place during the year. Every year plans are made to shop early but as usual it's always the last minute shopping. Tried to shop early once but it didn't seem Chirstmas like. Wonder why not, because Christmas advertising seems to b e coming out earlier each year. Sometimes it appears that Christmas comes before Halloween the way the advertising goes, its earlier every year. Many years ago when all the Senior Citizens were cute little tykes there used to be a boarding school here and they would always have the Christmas play where everyone in town would attend. Yep! It was the whole bit of the Christmas story of the birth of the Christ Child, and where he laid in the manger in Bethlehem. There was Mary and Joseph, the three Wise Men, and the shepherds and all the animals. All month long they would practice the play and a group would sing Christmas Carols along with the play. Yep! The play covered the whole bit right from the birth of the Christ Child, and the Angles who brought good tidings to the Shepherds who watched over their flocks by night. The bright star in the East that guided the three Wisemen to visit the New born King. In them days all the kids would have to make a list of three things they would like for Christmas, like a first choice the second choice and the third choice if everything didn't work on the first two choices. S ince it' s the Christmas season and everyone is in a hurry going here and there I would like to take advantage of this time and on behalf of the Spilyay Tymco Staff, we would like to Wish Everyonea Merry Christmas and a very Prosperous Happy New Year, and many, many more to come, It's always one of the best seasons of the year when we all want to wish the best for everyone. NIGH!!! Would like to say Congratulations to the Madras White Buffalo football team for making a big comeback to end up the No. 2 seed into the state play-offs this year from the Tri-Valley League. This was one of the best seasons the Buffaloes have had in many years. In the past they were eliminated in the first round. This year they got by the first round and met head on to the No. 1, rated team in the state rankings, The Sisters Outlaws. The two teams met two times this season, once in a non-league encounter and again in the play-offs and each time the Madras White Buffaloes came out on the short end. The Buffs will loose 14 players through graduation. They do have 8 juniors and 6 Soph, and some Frosh who have seen varsity action this season who will be returning next year. A good round of applause to the ones who made the all conference teams both on offense and the defensive team. Good luck to the seniors in the future and good luck to all the returning football players. Toe Ness Respecting our people. I am writ ing this letter in regards toour people living and deceased. I hear a lot of talk about the Indian people on and off the reservation, concerning alco hol and drugs. Even though our In dian people die or get killed in an accident involving drugs and alco hol, we still show respect to our dead and let them rest in peace for a short time! I do not hear this of the so-called religious white man, who says he follows his faith and has respect for the people and families of others and his own family. I hear that our Indian people are used as examples in the court and other offices when our Indian people are hurt or killed in an accident, caused by alcohol or drugs. I, myself heard these words from a court judge. Why do we, the Indian people have to be used as examples for the court system? When all this alcoholism and drug addictions is being brought to the Indian people from the whitcman and other races. Us Indian people use our faith to respect our people and we live by our laws that our Creator gave us from the beginning of time. We live by these laws every day of our lives. We are taught these things from a little child and we are taught with kind words and love. The elders of the Indian people teach the little chil dren, not by getting mad or scream ing at us. B ut talking with good words and kind feelings. We are taught to respect one another and show re spect to others. If you want respect, show respect to others. We are also taught to respect our dead and let them rest for a time set by our elders. It might be 6 months up to 5 years. During this time, we put all things away that belonged to the deceased person and we don't talk about the person. We are taught that this is a time when it is the hardest for the deceased. As they are making a journey to that promised land. In each language, all over the world, each religion and people talk of the promised land that our Creator has made for us, we only live here on this earth for a short time. Then we go on to the other world, then we must stand before our Creator and justify all the things that we have done while we were on this earth, at that time we cannot hide anything that we may have done while we were living. The Indian people of America love our people and our heritage, our lives have changed so much and continues to change. This is why we fight to hold on to what little we have. Wilfred R. Let us do a word study. SLANDER-a stum bling block, a false report maliciously uttered and tending to injure the repu tation of a person. O.K. now what does reputation mean? REPUTA-TION-the overall quality of charac ter as seen or judged by people in general. So you put someone down with false info. The person you tell then looks at that person with less respect and with less honor. (The Merriam Webster Dictionary 1995) I have noticed that more slander has been used in the community. Things said about the police, judges, medics, management, forestry, the mill, families, persons etc. Basically almost everyone has had their repu tation pulled down by slander. Even the office humor for many people is full of slander. What to do? First ask questions. Make it your duty to protect someone's reputation by asking the November 28th A very special birthday wish Grandma Flossie Love you lots. Kalan & Devon Happy Birthday Flossie From Sam & Robyne Happy Birthday Pebbles! Love, Linda & family 3 slanderer their source of information and the truth of their information. If that person does not know or refuses then call it slander and walk away. If you find that you are receiving slan der, do not walk away from it. Be truthful with yourselves and with others. Let people know of the lie and of the truth, remember it is your reputation. Two big lies are a part of slander. The first is that people who slander are talkative old women. The second is the statement of "I do not care what others think". All people can slander. We do care about the feelings of others. So Warm Springs, let us slow down slander. Let us shine the light of truth upon it. See you in church.
