All the "If's, were for the win here and a win by Estacada over The Dalles Indians, would assure the White Buffalos a spot in the playoffs. The Buffs going into the game a slight underdog, since it was on the road and a home coming game for the Wildcats. In a penalty riddled game where ; the Buffs were called for around 1 50 yards in penalties. It started out when the Wildcats had a fourth and eight and as they lined up ready set they would all slap their knees and by doing this they drew the defensive line off side. Now it was fourth and two, and they did the same thing to draw the linemen off side to give them a first down. The teams battled to a scoreless first quarter but then in the second quarter Steve Recder put the Buffs on the score board by booting a 20 yard field goal and the lead of 3-0.. The Buffs made another drive later in the second quarter where Keller Christenscn boomed over from one yard out and with Reedcrs kick the score was 10-0 in favor of the Buffs, as the half came to an end. The third quarter went scoreless where a 60 yard punt return by Jorge Mora was called back on a penalty. Mora should have a bundle of points from all the run backs that have been called back on penalties. In the final quarter a 32 yard pass play where Sites cought a Colter, Barnes pass and did some side stepping around the defenders to reach some valuable Real Estate and 6 points and with Reeder kicking the extra point put the Madras White Buffalos out 17-0. As the game was winding down the Wildcats were able to move the ball to the 30 yard line where they were stalled on a fourth down, so the went for a field goal to save the shutout making the score 1 7-3, as the time ran out giving the Buffs the important win and a spot in the play-offs. After a scoreless first first quarter Madras Quarterback Colter Barnes pitched out to running back Keller ',' Christensen who started out to the right than halted and threw a pass to , Jorge Mora who went for a 62 yard scoring run where a couple of defenders were right on him but he managed to outrun them to the end United Tribes Champions of zone for six points. Steve Reeder added the PAT giving the Buffs a 7-0 lead Jered Moses made a big unassisted defensive play sacking the Tiger Quarter Back Tim Cox for a 10 yard loss to spark up the defensive unit and stop a Tiger drive. The Tigers just couldn't get anything going for them selves. At one point it looked like they might be on their way to pay dirt but Jacoby Allsbury picked off a Cox pass and returned it for a nice chunk of yardage that put the Buffs on the go once again. QB Barnes connected with Jake Jaca that covered 35 yards for the T.D. where Reeder added the PAT to give the Buffs a 14-0 lead at the end of the third quarter. The Buffs keep up the momentum in the final quarter where they move the ball down field to the two yard line and Christensen capped the drive with a two yard run to score again Reeder was true'spliting the up-rights . , As the final quarter was winding down QB Barnes hit Reeder with a pass which was good for a 25 yard TD. Revenge could be on the Buffs mind as they prepare for that important game, Blake named exerciser of the month for November Congratulations to Karmen Blake. He was chosen exerciser of the month for November. Blake is 44-years-old and likes to jog most of the time but does some weight lifting and golfing. He exercises four times a week for one hour and has been exercising all his life. He says his inspiration comes from being part of a family with a long history of athletes, participating in sports activities all the way into high school successfully. "Exercising was part of our upbringing and it was taught by our father that you must train and practice to be good at anything you do, not just sports," explains Blake. Other motivation for him was competition between family members in the various sports activities. The benefits: "I really enjoy the exercise program despite some physical pain or soreness from it. The benefits I received from exercising are physical, mental and spiritual wellness. Physically I benefit for weight control and stay in shape to participate in activities with little strain. Mentally, it helps me to release stress and return to work or v - - Karmen Blake jogs on Tenino Road. home with a better attitude. Spiritually, it allows me time to spend with the Lord for requesting directions and guidance and giving him praises and thanks for what he did for me," says Blake. There is no specific goal for Blake. He trains for running events. He explains, "the competition is from within not with anyone particular. I strive for my personal best in time and conditioning of my body for the events. It is more challenging mentally than physically to prepare." His only stumbling blocks are laziness and that he loves to eat. He says there is no secret to handling these stumbling blocks. He refers to the Bibles-Basic Instructions Before Leaving Earth. It provides remedies for him. If there were no limitations on him he would want to continue to play basketball and improve his running to make it easier. Blake prefers to exercise alone most of the time, but when he's training he likes to exercise with someone better to push himself. He exercises with his older children, "we play basketball and go cross country skiing for fun," says Blake. He also enjoys participating in his children's activities, coaching and reading. Blake shares an experience with us, while jogging, "I had a funny experience happen a couple of times while I was jogging. I could usually watch out for large items such as cars, dogs and people when jogging. When I jog I am usually in another world and not paying attention to the world around me. I was jogging along the road in the summer and I ran across a rattlesnake that I did not notice until I came right on it. It reared its head up when I approached it. I felt like I jumped ten feet in the air and somehow found overdrive for about twenty yards. I lost all my thoughts and felt physically drained. After that wake up call I now watch the road I travel on and direction I go." He offers these words of wisdom to others, "Words of wisdom that work for me are that we have one body, mind and spirit to take care of for the rest of our lives. It starts with your spirit of whom you serve, as for me and my house we will serve the Lord. When you align your spirit with God your emotions, mind and body will follow the goodness he has to offer you. It is through our weaknesses that he makes us strong. I will leave you with this scripture why they inspire me and direct me." 1 Corinthians 6vl9 & 20 "Or do you not know that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you, whom you have from God, and you are not your own? For you were bought at a price; therefore, glorify God in your body and in your spirit, which are God's." "Remember, to give him praise and Thanksgiving during the holidays," concludes Blake. ;; Basketball !
