8 October 22, 1998 Warm Springs, Oregon SpilyayTymoo Spilyay Tmoo Sports The Dalles Indian Defeat the Buffalos 47-32 The Madras White Buffaloes line up on the two yard line where Keller Christenson carries the ball in for the score behind the blocking of Moses and White. This made the score The Dalles 1 4 Madras 1 3. 1998 St. Pat's Cowdeo a big success The 30th annual St. Pat's Cowdeo ages 5 through 14, was held October 17-18 at the Jefferson County Fair Grounds. A hand crafted saddle was donated for the event by DMJ Au tomotive of Warm Springs. This year's saddle prize, was hand crafted by Butch Hurtado of Warm Springs. The first prize winner was Kattie Alley of Culver, but since she placed first before the prize had to be passed down to the next participant with the most points. There were two par ticipants who tied during the event; eight-year-old Destry Begay of Warm Springs, and Jarred Warnock, also eight-years-old of Madras. The saddle could only go to one of the kids but a kind- hearted gentleman The Dalles Indians spoiled the Madras White Buffalo home coming on the eve of October 16, 1998, defeating the Buffs by the score of 47-32, in abrisk chill evening. Madras kicked off to The Dalles and started first and ten on their 41 yard line and it took the Indians 10 plays to hit pay dirt with 7 minutes thirty seconds left in the first quarter, the kick was good and the Indians led 7-0. The Dalles kicked off to Madras , sort of a squive kick and Jacoby Ellsbury took the ball and went up the sideline for an 80 yard kick-off return to score for the Buffs, the kick went wide leaving the score The Dalles 7 Madras 6. Big Matt Tuia scored for The Dalles on a 14 yard romp of tackle the put the Indians out front 13-6, and the kick for the PAT was good. As the half time intermission came around The Dalles Indians were leading by the score of 21-12, in a game that could have gone either way depending on how well they moved the ball each time they had the ball. As the second half got underway both teams were moving the ball pretty well. In the third quarter Jorge Mora took a kick-off and rambled 73 yards for a TD to bring the Buffs with-in two points again as The Dalles held on to the lead 27-25. Mat Tuia was a work horse for The Dalles churning up yardage on the ground with his 240 pound frame. Once he got moving he was hard to stop, some times dragging Buff tacklers for a couple of yards before he went down. The game was wide open and it appeared that who ever had the ball last would win the game, as in the fourth quarter , Keller Crhistneson scooted for 3 1 yards to score for the Buffs up to The Dalles leaving the score 34-32. ' The Dalles were able to get a couple of scores to bring the final score to a 47-32 win over the Host White Buffalo team. Both teams were pretty evenly matched defensive . wise, with The Dalles a little larger .' pound for pound in each position. The Buff defensive unit had some good plays sacking the quarter back and stopping the ball carriers But that was not enough to stop the drive , of The Dalles Indians to stay on the win side of the game. ' On Friday the Buffs play their 1 final home game against the Sherwood Bowmen, game time 7 p.m. Hopefully they will turn things around and get into the win column. the following two weeks they will be ; on the road first to meet the LaSalle.i raicons on tneir neio tnan, io; j Wilsonville the .meet the.
