Reemployment rights are provided for those who rendered active-duty service, initial active duty for training, acti ve duty for training or inactive duty for training. To be reemployed, four requirements must be met: (1) the person must give advance notice of military service to the employee; (2) the cumulative absence from the civilian job shall not exceed five years; (3) the person must submit an application for reemployment; veteran to be placed in the job as if the veteran had remained continuously employed instead of going on active duty. This means that the person may be entitled to benefits that are generally based on seniority, such as pensions, pay increases, promotion and transfers. The law also protects a veteran from discharge without just cause for one year form the date of reemployment, and a reservist or National Guard member from discharge without just cause for six months after returning from initial active duty for training. The law also prohibits discrmimination in hiring, promotion or other advantages of employment because of one's obligation as a member of the reserve or Guard unit. Applications for reemployment should be given, verbally or in writing, to a person authorized to represent the company for hiring purposes. A record should be kept of the application. Ike Thomas Hiram Yaw Veterans Health Fair Set For July 25 Howlak Tichum Louise Arlene (Smith) "Lau-Stat" Langley Louise Arlene (Smith) "Lau Stat" Langley was born December 26, 1926to parents Luc inda (Scott) and Alfred Smith, Sr. in Warm Springs, OR. She want on to join her beloved children, relatives and friends on July 3, 1998. Louise will always be remem bered as a hard worker. She worked at the Cushman Indian Hospital in Tacoma, WA prior to her marriage, worked seasonal jobs in the potato harvest and as a cook at the Warm Springs school cafeteria. Also she stocked vendingmachines through out the communitv. She married Allen Langley Sr. on February 25, 1945 in Stevenson, WA, this year celebrating 53 years of marriage. Louise was an avid craftsperson making homemade quilts, crocheting, sewing and shar ing her work with her family and friends. She also enjoyed gathering and preparing traditional foods and trading with her friends. Preceding her in death are two sons, Wayne "Buzzy" Langley and Allen Langley, Jr. along with her parents. Survivors include husband Allen Sr.. children Maxine (Mike) Clements, Larry (Stella) Langley, Mariu (Delford) Johnson, Cinda Lu (Levi) Bobb, Lori (Tommy) Fuentes and Noree (Rodney) Guerin all of Warm Springs. She is also survived by many grandchildren and great grandchildren whom she loved and cherished so much, along with many relative and friends. A traditional Wasco dressing was held Monday, July 6, 1998 at the Bel-Air Funeral home in Madras. A service as held Tuesday. July 7, 1998 at the Warm Springs Presby terian Church followed by burial at The Agency Cemetery. Services were officiated by Margaret Boise, Chief Nelson Waliulatum and Larry Dick. Jefferson County Veterans will have a "Health Fair" on July 25, Saturday, at the Jefferson County Madras Senior Center. Portland Veterans Administration Medical Health Center, Warm Springs Indian Health Services, Jefferson County Mental Health, Oregon Department of Veteran affairs, Oregon State Employment Division, Jefferson County Veterans Service Office; and others will be set up and available to assist veterans. VAMHC is going to have hearing testing. IHS will have diabetes evaluations. There will genera health areas, benefits information, VA Medical forms for the new VA Health Plan. This is going to be a fair for all of the veterans to stop in, check their health, benefits, find out information, ask questions, meet personnel from the different agencies that are there to assist the veterans. This will be on Saturday the 25th of July, from 12:00 to 4:00, at the Jefferson County Madras Senior Center in Madras. The Jefferson County Madras Senior Center is located at 860 SW Madison, in Madras. Which is northeast of the County Fairgrounds.
