Tips from the Pro- 5 i Joe "Da Pro" It's almost summer but there is still a little chill in the air. Remember to warm up bef ore taking the 1 st tee. If you have the opportunity to hit balls before your round, start with your short irons at 20-30 percent power to establish a good rhythm and gradually work your way up to the driver. If you arc late on the tee, chip and putt to get into a smioth swing. This will help create a rtorc relaxed tempo when you start jour game. According to most HawaMans and Indians, we chip and putt alot before we tee off. And don't forget, the Thursday evening league started April 9, and eveyone is invited to come on out and enjoy. Thursday's League results: The game w as, "Play your best golf Low Gross and Low Net." Our third place fin ish was 42 posted by William "Hobo" Patt a familar name on the leader board, He won back his entry. In the Net Division an excellent round turn-in by Madeline Queahpama rattled all the boys with a 39 for her season opener and a clear first place with a 29 Net score for $40. Great job Madeline! Bringing up a 3 1 for his ST win BobCoshiano with $20 to reinvest in lessons or more golf balls. Congratulations Bob. The fourth place honors went to Big Les Billy. There were six teams which were: Yakama Hoop Masters, White Swan Cougars, Wapato Washington, Lacy, Washington, Lapwai Idaho and Warm Springs. The Lapwai team won their class division state; and the White Swan team participated in the play offs. The competition is great for the girls, and they can continue to grow and excel from participating in this caliper of games. The girls that traveled over were Taralee Suppah, Deece Suppah, Reina Estimo, Amy Suppah, Billie Suppah, Cece Polk, Blanche Mitchell and Shamona Charley. They played and defeated the Yakama Hoop Masters, 59-33; then the Lapwai, Idaho team, 8 1 -73 ; then awaited the backdoor bracket winners. Lapwai defeated the Yakama Hoop Masters to advance to the championship game. Lapwai gave the Lady Vols a real tough go, but were a little tired which eventually paid off for us. The final score of the championship game was 64-60. The team has lost two of its starters, but the younger girls are stepping up and doing a great job. It'll take another tournament to tell, but, they're all in great shape. The team won nice jackets for championship; had two all-stars, Deece Suppah and Reina Estimo, and the Most Valuable Player (MVP), Taralee Suppah. They all contributed to the effort and all deserve recognition. I did experiment around with the starting lineup each game and couldn't really see where I lost anything from one to the other. The team rotation and acceptance of one another has been significant as comoared to where they were. I appreciate the sportsmanship, the cool, and the team effort that these girls exercise at all of their games. Once again, I'd like to thank all of the sponsors. Without you we couldn't afford to attend these games. Next up: The Baby Vols (10-12 year olds) will be heading for Bonanza, Oregon for a tournament on April 10-1 1, 1998; and the Lady Vols will be heading for Ft. Hall, Idaho on April 17-19, 1998. I want to mention and thank, Charlie Minthorn and Joe Ball of Mission Oregon; and Patsy Tallman of White Swan, Washington for their hospitality and generosity of not only their homes but their food. It takes exceptional human beings such as these to help the visitors and especially the youth of our Indian Nations. May the creator bless you and answer your prayers.
