During the OSAA-U.S. Bank 3-A girls state basketball tournament
held in the Chiles Center, on the University of Portland Campul on
March 10-14, 1998. Here Taralee brings the ball down the floor ready
to call out the play . Teralee was selected to the All-Tourney team
this year.
Taralee makes All-State
Congratulations to Taralee
Suppah for making the states top ten
all-star selection during the state girls
basketball tournament which was
held in the Chiles Center of Portland
University, on March 10-14, 1998.
Taralee was selected on the second
five which is a great honor to be
recognized in such a large tournament
of 16 teams from across the state
vying for the championship.
With her consistency in scoring
all season and good team leadership
and her defensive play clearly shows
she deserved to be selected to the
All-Tournament team. All season
long when things started to look down
for the team Taralee would drill those
nets with her three point shots to get
the Buff gals back into the game.
We are all proud of her and will
miss her next year as she will
graduate this spring, but we do wish
her well in the future where ever she
goes to college.
The All-Tournament team:
First Team Mandie Little, Jr.
Central; ToranLundgres, Sr. Cascade;
Jamie Coldran, Jr. Marist; Sara Jones,
Sr. Rogue River; Jennifer Martell, Sr.
Myrtle Point.
Second Team: Michelle Theuson.
Sr. Waldport; Anna Wallace, Sr. Cascade;

Sr. Madras; Whitney Martindale, Sr.
Reedsport,
This game almost like the other
three prior to this the Buffs were
slow off the starting blocks. They
came into the game sooner than
the othergames, instead of trailing
at the end of the first quarter they
were ahead by the tune of 13-8,
over the Gold Beach Panthers,
who have a season record of, in
league 1 3-1 and for the season 23
2 record which is good in anyones
books.
Jerold Rico kept the pace going
for the Buffs as he found the range
to collect 14 points in the first half
and continued to score all along.
In the second half both teams
played even in all departments
and when the quarter ended the
Buffs had scored 18 points while
the Panthers col lected 1 7, but they
still held onto a slim lead 45-41
overthe Buffaloes.at the beginning
of the fourth and final quarter. Just
eight minutes left for the Buffs to
either place fifth or eight, so the
battle went on.
In the final quarter the game
was neck and neck after the
Buffaloes took a little lead the
Panthers started to foul a lot to
where they lost their three point
shooter Alfonso Powers as he had
to leave the game with five fouls
with plenty time left , and a little
later on Tyson Crumley the big 6
7 Center made his exit from the
game VIA five fouls and this
opened things up a little for the
Buffs who pulled ahead
momentarily but just before the
final buzzer sounded the Gold
Beach Panthers were able to tie
the score and with time running

Tournament at the Chiles Center, University of Portland arena.
out the Buffs made a desperation
shot which bounced off the rim as
the buzzer sounded sending the
game into overtime.
The Buffs controlled the tip
and were off and running with
Rico putting a two pointer. Gold
Beach went cold in their shooting
and as Madras eased forward they
started fouling to stop the clock
but each time they fouled the ball
was in the hands of Miller and he
would step to the charity stripe
and drop in two shots each time he
was fouled.
It was frustrating for the
Panthers as they were unable to
match the Madras White Buffaloes
in scoring in the overtime period.
Finally the time ran out on the
Panthers to give the Buffs the
Consolation trophy and fifth place
at state this year. The Gold Beach
Panthers left at eight place. It was
a real interesting trek for the Buffs
as each game was a hair raiser
where a person would think that
the Buffs would be eliminated,
but when the final buzzer sounded
the Buffs were right there.

Reedsport Meets its Match losing 65-64
The Chiles Center University of
Portland. The Madras White
Buffaloes now with one loss and a
win are going for the second win this
time it's against The Reedsport
Braves of the Far West Conference.
They bring in a record of 12-2 in
league play and 22-3 over all, quite
an impressive record.compared to the
Buffaloes 8-8 league record.
The Reedsport Braves the No. 1
seed from their conference with one
of their big men a 6-6 Tucker Hill
who towers over the B uff teams tallest
man Peter Johnson 6-1 . B ut it was 6
2 Nathan Vander Kley who kept the
Braves going mainly in the rebound
department as he pulled down 3
offensive and 9 on the defensive
boards.
The Braves held a 17-11 first
quarter edge on the slow starting
Buffaloes, but in the second quarter
they came storming back to stampede
past the Braves on a 22-1 5 splurge to
take a 33-32 half time one point lead.
The rest of the game went on a
pretty even scoring basis as in the
third quarter both teams scored 20
points apiece the make the score 53
52 in favor of the Buffaloes, even
though there were some lead changes
the Buffaloes seemed to regain the
lead when it was important.

The final frame the two teams
scored exactly the same of 12 points
apiece to make the score 65-64. With
just seconds remaining in the game
the Reedsport team had the last shot
as they called a time out to take the
ball out under their basket. They put
their big guy under the basket and
their good shooter just out on the
baseline . They inbounded the ball to
the big man who than tossed out to
their good shooter who put up the
shot which bounced around on the
rim but did not fall as the final buzzer
sounded ending the game giving the
buffaloes the one point margin. 65
64 win and putting the Buffaloes in
the final game for the consolation
trophy.

bigger Mustang team looked like
they were in full command at
that point.
i Once you get in gear than
things start going your way so in
the second quarter the teams
played on an even basis as each
team scored 11 points apiece
and at the intermission the
scoreboard read the Mustangs 29,
Buffaloes 21.
In the second half the Buffs
were not about to be eliminated
from the tourney and made a
great move on the taller Hidden
Valley team and went on a 22-6
run on the Mustangs to over take
them and take over the lead also
to a 43-35 margin at the end of
the third quarter as Miller and
Rico went on a little scoring spree.
The Buffs tightened theirdefense
and held the Mustangs down to
1 8 points in the second half while
the Buffaloes scored 4 1 , big ones
to ice the win and keep
themselves alive in the
consolation bracket.
It seems like each game is a
little tighter than the one before
bur with determination the
Buffaloes hang on to pull each
game out at the last minute and
another step closer to the final
game for fifth place in the
tourney. The fifth place is better
than nothing after a disappointing
