The master artists for 1 997-98 are: Gudalupe Corona. Mexican Embroidery; Nawang Dhondup, Tibetan Lute; Tat Courtney Gold, Wasco Twining; Nisha Joshi, Rajasthani Eolk Songs; Souane Kcobounnam, Lao Weaving; Rose Marie Mitchell, Warm Springs Deer Hide Tanning; Ambrosia Morales, Mexican StrawTulc Weaving; Alexander Muktoyuk. Inupiaq Traditional Dance; Myrtle Peck, Paiute Language and Stop, telling; Yuipn Wane. Chinese Stick Puppetry. Each master ariiM is passing on specialized skills to dedicated apprentices. The money will be sent to the American Heart Association and the participants will receive accumulative prizes depending on how much sponsorships they collected. 1 heir prizes will arrive in the mail about four weeks from now. r i . Bridge work to Construction is now underway to replace the 57-ycar-old bridge on US 97 that crosses the Warm Springs River, 19 miles north of Warm Springs. Although it has no weight or width restrictions, the existing bridge is too narrow for today's trucks and vehicles. A bridge that is 38 feet wide and 260 feet long will replace it. Ross Brothers of Salem is the contractor for the $2.2 million project. The new bridge will be built with three, pre-cast concrete beams supporting a cast-in-place deck. Earthwork began Decem ber 17, 1997 and will continue until January 5, 199S. Travelers should expect intermittent delays of up to 20 minutes. Initially, Comment period extended The comment period for the IRM P II Draft Management Plan has been extended past the original date of December 31. 1997. Meetings have been held during November and December, and others w ill be held in January of 1 998 with grazing groups, family groups, other concerned tribal members and committees.
