Don't forget to say I live in Australia Lincoln's Powwow Daleena Frank Christmas is a gift To the editor, Hello from Pastor Rick. Well, in one week we have the time of Christ mas. The gift of love. So, how are you handling the idea of a loving God??? How about the idea of a loving God loving you??? In the sev enteen years I have been a pastor, I have seen a major idea of how people come to know who they are in this world. People do an elimination pro cess to discover who and what they are in this world. A Spanish person will say "Oh, that is what white people do. We Spanish don ' t do that so there fore I must be Spanish." Or an Indian says "Oh, that is what the black people believe. Indians don't believe that so Thanks for your generosity To the editor, Marty &MorningstarSpino would like to thank all those people who have shown their generosity towards the family with our recent loss. We were trying to keep a list of all cooks, friends and family who have helped, but the help was overwhelming that a General Thank You feels appropri ate, so that no names will be forgot ten. God Bless You and hope you have a Merry Christmas. Job Corps helped turn life around To the editor, My name is Alvagene Charlie. I am writing to give an update on how Job Corps is. I have now been in Job Corps for 1 1 months. I'm real close to completing my GED and my for estry trade. In Forestry, I am 75. My in structor Todd Payne says I could be done by spring time. When I finish I'll be going to Sisters, Oregon until winter, then go to Bend for advanced forestry training, so I could be closer to home. I want to take a little bit of time to tell you about Forestry. In forestry, I've gotten my fire fighting card, my chainsaw card and a tree climbing card. We also get to go burning. All these are really check offs. You have to remember a lot of things. You have to know different kinds of knots for tree climbing. Dif- 4 r u V Thank von from Mr. & Mrs. HoDtowit and familv for helninn and attending our wedding on November 11,1 997. God Bless you all. Mr. & Mrs. Arthur Hoptowit Sr. Candidate My name is Daleena Frank. I am the daughter of Sandra Greene and Jeffrey Frank. I am 14 years old and currently selling raffle tickets for Lincoln's Birthday Powwow Senior Court. Tickets are $ 1 .00 each or 6 for $5.00. I attend Madras Middle School. I have participated in school track, cross country and volleyball. I am a member of the SMILE club. My hobbies are riding horse, drawing, reading and beadwork. I participate at Powwow's as a Fancy Dancer. I share my Indian culture with visitors to Warm Springs with the "Spirit Walker Dancers". Over the summer I went to Florida for a month to share Indian culture with the Group "Dancer's of the Seventh Feather" (Charles Tailfeather Jr.s). Your sup port in my ticket sales is greatly ap preciated. See you around the com munity. Thank you. of love to all therefore I must be an Indian." There is a constant comparison of people to people, culture to culture, and faith to faith. The problem is in the sizing up of someone else we may also add judgment to the quality of what we see. Then it goes from the Spanish to those Mexicans. ..or the illness of al coholism to those drunks. Well, what are we to do.. .in the gift of Christmas there is the clear example of our Creator who does no comparison. Every human being is not seen in how they stand next to each other. In the eyes of God as a parent with their child they are not Indian, black or white. They are people who are loved. In Christmas it is the great parent who reaches out to give love. Not to size us up, but to fill us out with all of the elements that love makes to make your identity and of the knowledge of what life is meant to be. It is meant to be a time to love and be loved. Merry Christ mas from the Warm Springs Presby terian Church. Also: The Sunday School Christ mas program will be on December 21 at 11 a.m. And a Christmas Eve Service on December 24 at 7 p.m. Pastor Rick. R. Ribeiro ferent kinds of cuts for chainsaw use and everything for fire fighting. We have people coming and go ing in Job Corps. You get to meet them, get to know their back ground and then next thing you know they are gone. But the good part is a lot of other students complete. All the students that complete, put their minds to it, and move on. They follow all the rules, which are very simple and they leave. The rules aren't hard at all (common sense). Job Corps changes people's atti tudes from when they first get here to 3 months from their entry date. When they first get here their attitudes are not good, until 3 months later it's better. For me like I said, I've been here 1 1 months. If people remember when I left Warm Springs, I was in and out of jail. I didn't care about what I was doing with my life. I went my own way, I never told my mom where I was going. But now my attitude has changed, I see things in a different way, instead of my way. I learned how to respect myself, as well as others. Don't get me wrong, but there are times I think about partying or even doing drugs. But when I came to Job Corps, I got to see for myself that there is more out there than partying and using drugs. I look back on that time and wonder to myself, how could I have done those things. I mean all it is, is a night of drinking and doing drugs and that's it. When you could be using that money for something better. There is alot of ups and dow ns but if you make it through the day, life goes on. When I get upset. I think Thank you for condolences To the editor, To the people of Warm Springs: I wish to thank the many, many mem bers of the Warm Springs Commu nity who offered words of condo lence and sympathy to me and my family over the recent passing of my mother, Marian Arnett. I especially want to thank Nelson Wallulatum for his prayer song at my mother's funeral service and Pierson Mitchell for his prayer song at the graveside services. I also want to thank my many friends from Warm Springs who at tended the services and sent us thoughtful and comforting messages of sympathy. Your wonderful friend ship and compassion made a tremen dous and lasting impression on me and my family. Thank you again from the bottom of our hearts. Sincerely, Howie Arnett & the family of Marian L. Arnett Thank you for the love & support - To the editor, To: my father & family, Thank you for all the love and support you have so unselfishly given. This past year (especially) has been unlike any other. This year we found someone that will forever change our lives. We have found our heavenly fa ther, comforter, friend, prince of peace, healer, and wonderful coun selor. Someone who will always take care of our family through good times & bad times. He will make us strong & carry us when we are weak. Fur thermore, he will fly us away this earth to a place that will fulfill our every need. Not a house, car or all the money in the world could satisfy the riches of what our father has in store for us. May God always bless you and yours. May the blood of Jesus for ever unite us! Amen. Happy Holidays, Love, JEBIake (John 3:16) about why I'm here and what direc tion I'm going in. While I'm here in Job Corps, I wonder what my future is going to be. I just want to say is I'm glad I'm here in Job Corps. Just as long as I'm not home doing wrong, like I was before I left. When I was doing wrong, I hardly ever thought about my little girl. I always wanted to do my thing. But now I really miss her and I love her with all my heart. She means every thing to me. I'm not doing this just for me, but I'm doing it for Jennifer as well. She don't need to grown up the way I did and she don' t need to go through it. I am here to help myself and help my family and my little girl. I want to say thank you to Beverly Smith for watching Jennifer and tak ing good care of her. If it wasn't for you, I wouldn't be here. I really ap preciate what you're doing for me. Thank you so much. In my dorm, I have a lot of respon sibility. I am assistant head dorm leader. We make sure everyone is up on time and they are following the rules. We try our best to keep other students on their best behavior. I have to be on my best behavior as well. It was really hard to become assistant head dorm leader. The big gest part is trying to keep the dorm together. We have 50 females in one dorm trying our hardest to live to gether. But with leaders to help, we are doing good. In the gym I am head recreation leader. I make sure everything is under control in the gym, which is hard sometimes and keeping it clean. Making sure we have all the equip ment. I do my best in these tw o things. It keeps me busy, I hardly have any time to myself. Alvagene Charlie Who's tyf Who's tuQf will it be you f I hop that you will tfuniaSout itfirst. She entered the Valentine Poetry Contest sponsored by Metro Washington Park Zoo where she will receive an award and read her poem Friday, February 13, 1998. Winning poems with the poet's name, school and grade will be published in the 1998 Anthology of Winning Poems. Dawn is a member of the Warm Springs Tribes and the daughter of Tamera and Donald Hoptowit. Her poem reads: The Lost of the Tiger Your first sight of the tiger will never fade. . r His satin-like colors gleaming in the jungle shade. The powerful tiger walks around so free. The beautiful colors of striped orange and black to see. People need to stop and think of their future ways! Mankind and tigers need to work together all the days! Stop and watch the tigers in the zoo safe behind bars. Look up at the night and think about the jungle stars. If we are not careful these strong animals will drift away. Our children will never see a tiger in their distance day. People will never know what we have now. Unless we take the time to show them how.
