Spilyay Speaks and
hopefully someone will get the
drift of what's in the thoughts
on this matter. We are always
said to be a reservation of its
own and run business the way it
should be and all that stuff. We
also have the Treaty Rights that
we must protect....
Well, according to all the
"Rucuss, ranting and raving
that's been happening around
here recently, people
celebrating over an agreement
between the Federal
Government, the State and the
Confederated Tribes of Warm
They say a milestone has been reached after a decade or so of

UlV-Hlllga lllllg IU Willi. IU OVJI1IV oviliwiliwill v wi um
Yes ! there has been a milestone reached and for who's benefit
will it be? The picture looks real pretty at the present time where
the dignitaries are praising the tribal leaders for taking this step...
We are tampering with our original treaty rights in this
settlement and who's to stop them from digging further into our
holdings and to stop them from trying to take other things they
want of our treaty of 1 855. No matter if it was stated that this will
not hamper our treaty rights, what has it done?
I have always said, Legislators are very schrewd and can
make statements that are very miss leading. They can build you
up to make you feel like you own the world and than, "Ka
Boom!!" Where will you land? "What have we done?"
Babbitt said, "We hope that this settlement will provide the
catalyst to conclude other Indian
innovative and reflects the efforts
for the tribes and all the citizens
They say they want to do what's best for the tribes, but no one
has explained to the tribes what that is. There has been no
mention on what makes the agreements conclusive.
And as far as other Indian Water rights, some tribes are not as
fortunate as we are for natural resources and even at that our
resources are not to promising as they were in the past. Something
like this could wipe out other smaller tribes in taking their water.
Yes, the festivities went well where everyone got their pat on
the back and they had their say of, I's and We's and Me.
Everyone wanting to be in the spotlight, everyone wanting to
grab the Mike to talk. Well it was a grand time for people who
like to pow-wow and have a good time. If we keep messing
around with things like this pretty soon we wont have any treaty
rights left. The non Indian public has no idea what our treaty
rights contain and why we so preciously protect. Yes we ceded
millions of acres of land to the U.S. Government during the
signing of the Treaty of 1 855, and agreed to move to a reservation,
but in the agreement we retained certain preveliges that are
sacred to us.
Yes they say we are doing whats best for the tribes, yet the
tribes have had no explanation on what took place in the
agreements. There should have been a general council meeting
just on what has taken place to come to these agreements.
All what I have written may sound useless and ignorant which
is true because I'm not educated like all the Legislators and
Lawyers, but I do feel we should never make any other agreements
that will pick away at our original treaty of 1 855. The only treaty
that is in existence... In my books.
I have always said there is always someone trying to find a
loop hole to pick our treaty rights apart, to me this could be a
start. I say we should watch what happens in the future. AAHH-NAH-CHI-TOON!!!

We are called
To (he editor,
Hello from Pastor Rick. Today I
am on my soap box standing on the
corner. I saw a youth the other day
who tried to hide his smoking. I
started to ask myself and others how
does a young person get the tobacco
products. The answer from many was
that parents or family buy for their
kids. So I asked again, why? The
answer was a fear of the kids getting
laced tobacco products with drugs.
The first thing I thought was why are
parents giving the message to their
kids that they are not smart enough to
know their own friends.
The message is that your child
who has grown up with most of their
friends will not know who is the
prankster in the group. The message
js that your child trusts too much. So
to protect our children we will give
them a life long addiction to tobacco;
and kill them. There comes a time
when you are holding the seat of the
bicycle when you must let go and let

It's me myself, I should feel shame.
I put myself through a lot of trouble
I'm really glad my time has no

If I just straighten up and so some

Maybe I'll no longer be in a place
that's no good.
Time and time I wonder how it
would be
To be good once again but all I said
was "maybe".
Tipping that no good bottle of un

I thought and thought I'm tearing

When, why and where did I really
start.
