TheBuffs were not at their best when they ran into a very well balanced attack of the Indians. The Dalles used the running of their 64" 240-pound sophomore Kyle Manciu and Matt Tuia a 6'2", 230-pound running backs. The passing skills of senior quarterback Charlie Hayes, who had over a hundred yards passing, iced the cake for Madras. The final score read Madras 7 and The Dalles 46. . , The Dalles kept the Buffs offense in check all night Madras had only 68 total yards for the night. The Buffs had to deal with the loss of starting quarterback Brian Miller, who is done for the season, and the absence of their starting running back Keller Christensen, who, near the end of the first quarter, hurt his ankle and could not finish the game. In the first quarter of play, The Dalles team used three plays to get into the end zone. Manciu finished the job by rambling in from 18 yards out to give The Dalles Indians a six to zero lead. The point after failed. After a Madras turnover, The Dalles Indians quarterback Haynes ran the ball in from five yards out and after Manciu ran in the extra point the score read 14 to zero. At the end of the first quarter the score was 14 to 0. In the second, the host Indians scored two more Td's to go into half time with a lead of 26 to 0. The Buffs defense held The Dalles to one TD in the third. But in the fourth The Dalles put the game out of reach with two more TDs. Madras got on the score board with a Jake Jaca 38-yard TD pass to make the 'final score 46-7 The Dalles. For the game The Dalles had 395 total yards and held Madras to 68 total yards. Jaca was three of 14 passing and had one TD while throwing two interceptions. Christensen carried the ball five times for 35 yards in one quarter of play. Madras, 6-1 overall and 4-1 Tri Valley, is now in second place tie in the Tri-Valley league standings. Madras is still in contention for a state playoff spot. Sophomore running back Keller Christensen lead the Buffaloes in scoring with his four rushing touchdowns. Madras coach Chip Dcloretto stated "Christensen gave forth a great effort and our defense stepped it up in the first half. Portland Christian has a very good ball club and they never quit. Our next game will be a good test to see if we are ready to contend for the Tri-Valley league title." In the first quarter both teams played strong defense. Madras started three times on their own 20-yard line. No team really threaten to score in the first quarter. Madras Jerold Rico intercepted a Josh Lcmka pass and returned it 21 -yards. In start of the second quarter of play Portland Christian was called for a pass-interference which put the ball on Portland Christians 22-yard line. On Portland Christian next possession Madras' Jason Cordcs came up with the Buffs second interception of the game, but on the next play the Royals got the ball back on a Lemka interception of Jake Jace pass. Portland Christian moved the ball down to the White Buffs 5-yard line, but the White Buffs defense made a stand and took over on downs when the Royals could not score on fourth down. On the next series Christensen ran for 10 yards to move the ball out to the 25-yard line. Then Christensen broke loose for a 75-yard TD run. Johnson made the score 14-0 with 1:12 left in the first half. Madras got the ball back with less then a minute to play in the half Johnson made a 35-yard field goal as time expired in the first half to make the score 17-0 Madras. In the third the Royals came out to show the Buffs they would not quit. A Josh Lemka TD pass to Cole Saban made the score 17-6, the point after was no good. Madras Rico returned the ensuing kickoff 30 yards. A 12 yard run by Madras QB Jake Jaca gave Madras a 1st and 10 at the Royals 15-yard line. From there Christensen ran in for his third TD on the night. Johnson made the point after to give Madras a 24-6. Madras defense held the Royals on their next possession. Christensen had runs of 27-yards and 1 3-yards to put the ball on Portland Christians 6-yard line. Two plays later Christensen score his fourth TD of the night to give Madras a 30-6 lead. Johnson hit his fourth point after to make the score 31-6. In the fourth quarter, the Royals started a come back with two TD passes from Lemka one a 5-yard toss to Saban, also the two point after, and the othera 1 5 toss to Doug Schneider. The score read Madras 31-20 with 3:51 left. The Royals tried a onside kick but failed and Madras had good position at mid-field to run the clock out.
