At this meeting Legionnaires were asked to bring their spouse along. The purpose was to get as many wives involved to assist in planning functions in the future. What functions? Could be a dance or other social gatherings and even many fund raising projects. The Old Business will be a report on the Sweat Lodge where the Howlak Elvina "Ka - Mum - Elvina "Ka-Mum-La-Shul" Stacona Switzler, age 87 passed away September 26, 1997 at the Mt. View Hospital due to natural causes. Mrs. Switzler was born September 18, 1910 at Warm Springs, Oregon to Charlie and Matilda (Parker) Stacona. She was alifelongresidentof Warm Springs and an enrolled member of the Confederated Tribes of Warm Springs reservation, v , Elvina attended the Warm Springs Boarding school then went to Chemawa Indian School in Sa lem, Oregon. Upon returning to Warm Springs, she helped her mother at the ranch. She had four children from her first marriage and then married Jasper Switzler July 10, 1955 and they had five children. A cooking career began when she cooked in the teacher's quar- ters on campus, then at the Rain bow Cafe, Alice's Restaurant and began at Kahneeta in 1964. She soon was promoted as head chef " when the new restaurant opened where she stayed until her retire ment in the early 1970s. Mrs. Switzler enjoyed beadwork and making yarn belts. Upon be coming a resident at the Mt View Nursing Home she began collect ing Native American dolls and was very active as a Chairperson of their Activiites Committee, coor dinating trips and activities. Buford Johnson; Jr. of .Warm Springs along with numerous rela tives. , - ; Preceding her in death are her husband, Jasper Switzler (91 269), children Cyril Johnson, Wilbcrt Herbie and Emil Switzler, four brothers, Roscoe, Curtis, Mckie and Wilbert Switzler and three sisters Cecelia Greene, Rosanna Quibal and Inez Nejal. An all denominational prayer service was held Friday, Septem ber 26, 1997 at7 p.m. at the Warm Springs 1910 Indian Shaker Church. The dressing ceremony was held Saturday, September 27, 1997 at 3 p.m. at the Bel-Air Colo-' nial Chapel in Madras, OR with Margaret Boise officiating. Fol lowing were two overnight ser vices held Saturday and Sunday September 26, and 27, 1997 at the Shaker Church. Burial was held Monday September 29. 1997 at 10 a.m. at the Agency Cemetery wiih Cliffor Moses officiating. K
