' Madras threaten to score against Madras White Buffaloes won a non-league game against Sisters 33 7, Friday September 12, at Sisters. Madras now is 2-0 for the season. Both teams in the first part of the first quarter never threatened to score with each team's defense playing strong. Madras first score came on a Jarold Rico 39 yard fumble return for a touchdown with Johnson kicking the extra point. At the end of the first quarter Madras held a 7-0 lead. In the start of the second quarter Madras started with the ball on its own 19 yard line. Shawn Wollin made a run of 15 yards to give the Buffs another first down. On the next play Peter Johnson caught a pass from Brian Miller and ran the ball down to Sisters 1 yard line. From there Madras's sophomore running back Keller Christensen took the ball in for six points, the point after made the score 14-0 with 6:05 left in the second quarter. Barrel racing event About 40 Barrel racers from around Oregon gathered at the Warm Springs Rodeo grounds this past Saturday September 20. "Delford and Marita Johnson were a great influence for bringing this event to Warm Springs," stated Tara Lawrence event director. Lawrence added, "We are always looking for arenas to stage races, and this is a great arena and close to home for many of the riders." This was one of many races put on for barrelraccrs only. There were four divisions: Open Rider, 2500 Novice, 1 500 Novice, 500 Novice and Amateur. Those classes were based on how much money the horse has won during the course of the season. There were two races held one in the morning and one in the afternoon. Sisters looked like they were going to score. But two penalties moved Sisters back and they had a 2 & 15 from Madras 27-yard line. Madras intercepted a Sisters pass and returned it to Sisters 45-yard line, but a penalty brought the ball back to Madras 25-yard line with 30 seconds to play in the quarter. Madras sent Christensen off the right side tackle where he found daylight and gained 62 yards on the play. Madras had a first down on Sisters 15 yard line. Miller on the next play with less than 20 seconds to play, took the ball into the end zone on a quarterback keeper off the left side to make the score 20-0. Point after was blocked Madras lead 20-0 after two quarters of play. Madras scored three times first a Johnson 38-yard field goal. Madras then added a 35-yard pass from Miller to Shawn Wollin, Johnson's point after made the score 30-0. On the night Christensen rushed for 159 yards on 23 carries and one TD. Leading the receives was Shawn Wollin who had four catches good for 73 yards and one TD. Miller had 100 yard through the air and one TD rushing. On defense Rico recovered one fumble and returned it for a touchdown. Glendon Smith recovered two fumbles. Cordes, Christensen and Miller each had one interception. Shawn Jaca had 12 tackles and Wollin had 11 to lead Madras. Madras came away with an 38-7 victory. Madras record now stands at 1 -0 in Tri-Valley and 3-0 for the season. Madras', Brian Miller, senior quarterback had another stand-out game, passed for 95 yards and rushed nine times for 90 yards. In the first quarter Madras keyed on LaSalle's two first quarter turnovers. Peter Johnson picked off a LaSalle pass to setup Miller who ran the ball in from seven yards out. The next Madras score was also setup by the defense this time it was Jake Jaca's turn. Jaca intercepted another LaSalle pass, Miller then threw a 56 yard TD pass to Kyle Wyatt to put Madras ahead 14-0. Madras kept the pressure on LaSalle by scoring 14 more points in the second quarter. Madras third TD was a one-yard run by sophmore runningback Keller Christensen. Miller made a key 23-yrd run on the drive. Miller then tossed a ten-yard TD strike to Wyatt to make the score 28-0. Madras kicker Johnson made four extra points in the first half. Madras added one TD in the third, a three yard run by Christensen and Johnson added the extra point. Madras final score was a 23 yard field goal by Johnson. LaSalle got on the score board in the fourth quarter with a 13 yard touchdown pass. For the game Madras gained 205 yards on the ground. Christensen carried the ball 18 for81 -yards. Shawn Wollin had 26-yards on seven carries. Miller was 7-1 5 for 95 yards & two TD's, Miller also ran for 90 yards on nine carries, with one TD. When Portland Christian came to town, Madras made short work of the Crusaders, winning 15-7 and 15-1, to bring the Buffs league record to 2 0. Madras traveled to Estacada Tuesday September 16. Madras won the first game 15-9. The next game Madras won 15 11. "We started out fast," stated Madras coach Gail Dubisar, "We were up 9-0, then Estacada slowed down the game and got back into the game 9-6. Sherrie Johnson was the sparkplug that got us back on with an ace off a jump serve. After that we regained control of the game." Dubisar stated, "Kea Wyatt and Liz Weigand had 26 serves between them. Wyatt was 12 for 13 and Weigand 1 1 for 13 serving with each recording two aces. Jody Nartz and Annie Collins recorded five and four kills respectively. Katie Christensen was a work horse for us during both games. She got alot of blocks for us." In Gladstone Madras won 15-4 and 15-12. Madras overcame a 0-9 Gladstone lead in the second game for a 15-12 win. For the game Weigand was 10 for 11 with four aces, three kills and six defensive digs. Christensen was 11 for 12 serving, with five aces and collected six kills. At Valley Catholic Madras won 15-13, 15-17and 15-11. On the night Jody Nartz was 22 for 24 serving with five aces and 11 kills. Anna Collins had 1 3 kills. Wyatt had 40 set assists and was 18 for 19 serving. Christensen and Sherrie Johnson each had nine kills. Valley Catholic played a great defensive game according to Madras coach Gail Dubisar. Dudisar stated, "We had a good effort from our girls with lots of offense." Madras hosted The Dalles Indians on September 24, results were unavailable at press time. The PGA requires a Player's test and a Written rules test be passed before becoming a Golf Pro. Estimo, Of KahNeeTa Golf Club, has successfully passed the Player's test. When he passes the Written rules test Estimo will be a full-fledge member of the North West section of the PGA of America. Estimo has been training with KahNeeTa Golf Pro, Joe Rauschenburg. On September 15, at Liberty Lake, Washington Estimo played 36 holes of golf in the rain. Estimo stated, "I was a wet tired puppy by the end, but was happy all the way home." Estimo was one of the eight who passed out of 45. Estimo is thankful to his family, for putting up with him, expecially his wife Mina.
