With the win, Team Oregon moved onto the semifinals, where they faced a very tough team from Alberta. In the championship game Team Oregon Madras football team plays at Sweet Home jamboree, along with Stayton, Crestwell and Sweet Home, Friday, August 29, 7:30 p.m. pressed the bigger team from Minnesota, which helped Team Oregon win by 21 points. Smith stated, "There were no stars on our team this was a team effort and everyone played well. Our girls trained forsixmonths, running, lifting weights and working on basic basketball. All the girls worked hard on passing, dribbling, screening and shooting skills. In the end that's what won it for ours was the hard work that the girls put forth. I was pleased in the team effort in which the players and parents did. In the twenty years that I've coached this was one of the best disciplined teams that I have ever coached. After we played Alberta both referees came over and stated that the Oregon team was deserving of the sportsmanship award because of the way the girls conducted themselves on the court." Smith concluded "I hope the Warm Springs community gets more team invovled at the next Indigenous Games, like in Chief Spirits Co-Ed All Indian softball tournament, which was set for August 30-31, has been canceled until furth notice at" y.
