E Coosh EEWA: 77ie way is
This time of the year the traf fic
is real heavy with people going
on vacations and family outings
or just out for u drive in the nice
weather.
Traffic brings to mind some
of the most foolish spending of
the tax payers money on
highway road work. A couple
of months ago it was a pain in
the neck to go to Redmond, Or.,
because of the delay in traffic
for road construction. At first it
appeared they were going to
make the highway into a four
lane highway between Madras
and Redmond.
They had all that construction
equipment and a work force where it did appear that they were
going to build a four lane freeway from Madras to Redmond. If
that was going to happen than the wart would have been worth it.
With all that heavy equipment and work force must have coasted
thousands and thousands of tax dollars and to think of it, like
money down the drain, because after all that work on the highway
it didn't improve travel conditions at all. AH they did was build up
. . , , ' . , , i i , , ,
the shoulders to widen the two lanes that were already there and
with all that work the traffic is still a mess here in Central Oregon,
What they should have done is start either in Madras or
Redmond and make a four lane highway even if it would have been
. , . ., , . J . r. .,
for about four or five miles this year and five miles next year,
eventually they would have a freeway from Madras to Redmond,
Just because all the legislators live in the Metropolitan area the
everyday traffic in Central Oregon don't hamper their everyday
living, they pay no attention to the traffic problem here in Central
Uregon. 1 he trattic is on a rapid increase around nere and mere is
nothing being done to ease the situation.. Yep! a few years ago
Oregon boasted of be i ng the first state to have a boarder to boarder
freeway. That was nice and now we need another boarder to
boarder freeway on highway 97, and a freeway from Portland on
highway 26 to connect Central Oregon with the Metro area. At the
present time we could use a freeway from the top of the grade just
west of Warm Springs to Bend, Or.
On week-ends the traffic is real Iy heavy coming out of Portland,
to the Central Oregon area. At one time the traffic used to be heavy
just on the opening of fishing season and opening of hunting
season. At that time the traffic used to be bumper to bumper, but
now days its that way on any week-end all year long. In the winter
season they are heading to the ski areas around Central Oregon, or
just to be out having fun in the snow. In the warmer seasons the
population is on tne roaaway ror camping, risning and otner
recreation and family events.
There are some motorists who don't have any respect for the
other travelers and they take their good old time holding up traffic.
There are passing lanes here and there but when these people come
to the passing lanes they speed up where no one can pass them and
at the end of the passing lane they slow down again holding up the
traffic. This causes people to take chances to pass and makes
traveling more dangerous of fear for a head on collision from the
impatient motorist. It's usually the innocent who suffer the most
from the impatient traveler.
The population here in Central Oregon is in a big increase as all
the towns are growing faster than anyone realizes which for
certain makes the highways more crowded. It's only natural that
the population is on an up-swing. where they are moving to the
country. A person can really notice this from the construction in
the Bend and Redmond area,
Well, instead of crabbing about the traffic situation I should
write the local representative about this situation, perhaps they
might take some action the ease the situation.

Help and support
appreciated
To the editor,
I would like to take this time to
express my appreciation to all
involved with supporting our
handgame tournament during the Pi-Ume-Sha
weekend, especially the
stick game committee who assisted
in feeding lunch to all our visitors,
both Friday and Sunday. Twelve
individuals came and gave us thanks
and really were grateful for our
generosity.
I have to admit, there was a time
in the sign up that I couldn't believe
that we would make the necessary
funds to pay off all four places in our
tournament. We made it and I had to
be grateful for the tardiness of some
teams signing up.
I have the utmost respect and
appreciation for our sponsors, The

To the editor,
Hello from Pastor Rick, well, did
you survive the fourth of July? What
anight! ! There we were, sitting at the
back playground of the WS Presby
terian Church. The canyon valley
below with the Community Center
and ball fields to the left and center of
us with West Hills to the right, a
smoke haze rises up from the valley,
the smell of sulfur and burnt gun
powder is everywhere.
Everything that can burn, fly, ex
plode and whistle is up in the air
above the tree tops. To our left the
main fireworks show begins to go up
high in the sky. And finally behind it
all a giant lightening cell slowly
moves from northeast to southwest.
The lightening comes with great
white lines coming down to earth
and sideways from black cloud to
black cloud. What a fourth!
It was great except during this
wild time over to the far right I saw
something. There parked next to the
church house in the scrub brush and
dry grass sits a pickup truck with six
young people sitting inside and on
the bed. Out from the truck comes
bottle rockets hitting the dry grass. I
run over to the area and ask the folks

1969. a success
to move their rig from the area. I
hear some words that cannot be re
peated and the truck leaves. What
happens to the grey matter between
the ears of some folks playing with
fire in the tall dry grass? There are
many words that can describe some
one who is acting without all pistons
firing. The bible word is FOOL. It
means someone who will not listen
to anyone' s wisdom or council. Their
tools of understanding is to make
everything look like they are the
victims, no one understands, and
only they know the truth. A fool,
what do you do with a fool? What do
you do with ten fools? What do you
do with 1 00 fools? This is a question
that needs to be asked by the wise
people of Warm Springs.
My thanks to one and all for a
great Vacation Bible School. It
topped out at 72 children. What a
great time for Jesus as the Main
Attraction. My great thanks to the
