Sudden raindrops didn't dampen the 1997 Pi-Ume-Sha Treaty Days,
Annual parade a
big success
Beautiful regalia was displayed in
(he Pi-Ume-Sha parade this year by
local and visiting royalty and anyone
who wished to enter a float, ride
horseback or walk in the parade. The
parade committe held a contest as
well in various categories, results are:
Men Horseback: 1st place-Jessie
Jones, $90; 2nd place-Ramon Greene,
$60.
Women Horseback: 1st place
Janet Billey, $70; 2nd place-Holly
Anna Spino, $60; 3rd place-Nola
Queahpama, $43.
Boys Horseback (16 & under): 1st
place-Harley Andrew, $30; 2nd
place-Jefferson Greene, $23.
Girls Horseback (16 & under): 1st
place-Kristin Tom, $30; 2nd place
Shayla Frank, $23.
Women Walkers: 1st place-Pat
Speakthundcr, $90; 2nd place-Tilda
Walsey, $60.
Boy Walkers (16 & under): 1st

Miss 1997 Pi-Ume-Sha Queen, Kaleja Castilleja
I would like to take this opportu
nity to express a big Thank you to my
parents. My mom, Juleigh Seelatsee,
my stepdad Gregory Wak Wak, Sr.,
my dad Joejo Castilleja, my grandma
RitaNash Castilleja, my grandpa Joe
M. Castilleja, my grandpa Frank
"Dean" Seelatsee and especially
thankmy sister Dyamelle S. Castilleja
who helped sell my tickets and my
uncle Kirby G. Heath, Sr. for his
encouragement.
It's a great honor to represent the
1997 Pi-Ume-Sha Treaty Days Pow
wow. My mother has told me about
when this celebration first began and
has come "Home" every year for the
event. She also introduced me to my
great aunts and uncles who I also
appreciate their words of encour
agement. I am proud to mention my
auntColleen Seelatsee-Johnson who
held this title in 1978!
My intentions are to travel
throughout the states to cover as
much ground to rein my crown. My
uncle Rocco Clark, Sr. had prom
ised to take me to Connecticut for
the big powwow "IF I won queen.
So I look forward to seeing you all at
the next powwow!
