A Father and Son
Conversation
(A note from Valerie: Due to an error on my part, I
did not copy the full version of last weeks Paiute
Lesson. This weeks lesson includes the full typed
version from last week. My apologies for any incon
venience.) DAD: Come over here, my son. Ya'atoo kemow e

BOY: Dad, What are you making? Naa, hemma u

DAD: I am making a decoy for hunting. When I
make several of these I will put them in the water
by the nests so it will fool the other ducks to come
close to me so I can shoot them. Nu mu nahoawidu
pu'ma nakwesekunu manabuewunu. Nu huo
matapuese ka pa wi mu haneokoo ka mu nohabenu
tsage'e o'no esoo u'mu susumunadu puhu

Soon we will be gathering with the other men so we
will hunt the antelope. We have to prepare for
many days when we hunt the antelope.

First, we have to build a corral. Some of the corrals
are made out of rocks, we use these each year.

After the corral is finished, the medicine men will
