Tournament play offered plenty of fast action.
Always faithful and packed with spirit, White Buffalo fans made their presence known.
The Madras White Buffs ran onto
a very good Molalla basketball team
in the second round of the class 3 A
basketball tourney. Madras had to
come from, 45-42, three points down
at the end of the third for a 56-49 win.
In the first half Madras looked as
if it would go in at the half with a six
point lead but the Indians center,
Keith Marson, had a different idea.
Marson scored the Indians last six
points to tie the score at 28-28.
Marson had 1 5 points in the first half
to lead Molalla in scoring. Scott
Riddle scored 1 4 first half points and
got help from Jon Klos who had eight
points. Michael Kirsch added six
points.
In the third Molalla out scored the
Buffs 17-14 and had a 45-42 lead
going into the last frame.
In the fourth Madras pick the
defense two minute into the fourth
Riddle picked up his fourth foul and
Madras was down, but Brian Miller
scored five, of his ten second half
points, straight points to tie the score
at 47-47 with five minutes left in the
fourth. Molalla never got closer than
seven points the rest of the way. As
Riddle made four free throws and
Jon Klos made three of four. Kirsch
made one of three. Madras made six
of 12 from long range, getting two
apiece from Riddle, Miller and
Kirsch.
Marson had 24 for the game to
lead the Indians.
Riddle scored 26, pulled down six
rebounds and had three blocked shots.
Jon Klos scored 17 points, including
three for three from the arc, had three
boards and three steals. Brian Miller
scored 10 points, four rebounds and
two steals. Michael Kirsch pitched in
nine points, had six assists and three
steals.
Madras defeat Cougars 59-47.
Madras next contest was against
the Illinois Valley Cougars in the
first semi-final game. Madras won
the game 59-47.
In the first half the Cougars lead
most of the way and at the end of the
first quarter had a 17-12 lead.
Scott Riddle got into foul trouble
and sat out most of the second quarter,
but Brian Miller pickup the scoring,
with Riddle out, by making four of
seven treys en route to 16 first half
points. Madras was down at half-
time by the score of 33-28. The
Cougars were lead by Jacob
Herman's' 14 points, two rebounds
and two steals.
In the third Madras looked to be in
trouble when Riddle pick up his
fourth foul mid-way though the third
quarter. The Cougars went into a
stall offense, which seemed to help
the Buffs out. At the end of the third
Madras was down 39-34. :
Madras out scored the Cougars in
the fourth 21-6 final score was 59
47. Madras had six second half steals
compared to one in the first half.
Miller made two of three-three
pointers in the second half. Riddle
returned and scored eight points to
finish with 15 points.
Madras made nine of 1 1 from the
free throw line, two of four from the
arc and nine of 1 8 from the field. The
Buffs held Illinois Valley to six of 17
from the field, and two of nine from
three point range and two of four
from the free throw line. Madras took
care of the ball in the second half
turning it over only four times and
forced six second half turnovers. The
Buffs out rebounded the Cougars 28
20. ' Miller finished a great night of
shooting with 28 points, (six of 10
from the three point line) four
rebounds and two steals in 32 minutes
of play. Michael Kirsch played 31
minutes and scored five points, had
six rebounds, dished out three assists.
Riddle scored 1 5 points in 19 minutes
of play. Jon Klos pulled down six
rebounds, three assists, one blocked
shot and one steal in 30 minutes.
Jason Cordcs came in and had two
steals, three assists and two rebounds,
also two points.
Sutherlin gets past Madras 49-
42.
The Madras White Buffaloes fall
short of their goal to win the class 3 A
title, as Sutherlin Bulldogs won a
tough game 49-42. Tim Clark lead
the Bulldogs to victory with 25 points,
eight rebounds and two blocks.
Madras finished the season with a
record of 26 mins, 19 of the last 20,
with three loses.
In the first Madras came out strong
for the first time in the tourney and
lead after one by the score of 1 5-1 1 .
Brian Miller and Scott Riddle lead
the Buffs with five points apiece.
Tim Clark had four. 1
In the second Clark scored 10
points to lead Sutherlin to a 26-25
lead. Madras shot only .37 from
the field and two for eight from the
three point line. The Bulldogs shot
.580 percent from the field making
11-19 shot. Most of them from ten
feet in or closer. Tim Clark had 1 4 at
the half. Riddle had nine first half
points. i
In the third Madras battle back to
tie the score at the end of the third at
34-34 apiece.
In the fourth the Bulldogs out
scored the Buffs eight to 15, as Clark
controlled the paint and went five for
, five from the field. Madras could not .
come from behind this time, they had
their worst shooting night of the
season from the field making only
.30 of their shots, seven of 23,
while Sutherlin shot .64 from the
field, nine of 14.
Scott Riddle played all 32 minutes
scored 13 points, grabbed seven
rebounds and had two steals. Michael
Kirsch had three assists, four points
in 28 minutes of play. Brian Miller
played 3 1 minutes scored nine points,
two rebounds and two assists. Jon
Klos had four points, two blocked
shots and two assists in 27 minutes of
play. Jason Cordes played 17 minutes
had seven points, one rebound and
three assists.
Tim Clark played 32 minutes had
25 points, eight rebounds, one assist
and two blocked shots. Kyle Crane
also played 32 minutes had six points
and six assists.
At the end of the game the teams
received their medals for place at the
tourney. Madras received Silver
medals for second place.
Scott Riddle and Brian Miller were
named to the All-Tournament team
along with Keith Marson, Molalla,
Tim Clark, Sutherlin and Luke Dean,
111 inois Valley. Riddle and Clark were
unanimous choices.
