Retiree honored
A party was held at Kah-Nee-Ta Resort August 14 to honor Junior LeClaire after 28years of service.
Warm Springs resident and tribal member LeClaire started working at Kah-Nee-Ta Resort on
December 12, 1967 as the Village maintenance supervisor. Before retiring Junior worked as the
. maintenance foreman, but for many years he also worked in almost every department at the resort.
Junior was Kah-Nee-Ta's longest term employee and will be missed as a co-worker and as a good
friend.
Road closures noted-
Sparky's corner
The WHO (BIA Route 17) has
been closed to traffic between its
junction with the W300 and Wl 14
roads. The road that is closed lies
west of Highway 26 near Butte Creek.
The road was damaged last Feb
ruary during the flood and erosion
has continued to be a problem. Butte
Creek has been subject to heavy sedi
ment loads due to the erosion and
ongoing impacts forced resource
managers to impose the closure.
Temporary repairs were made to
the Wl 10 road in order to minimize
affects on the creek and surrounding
environment, but permanent repairs
cannot be made until next spring.
The decision to close the road prior
to the season's first rainfall will lessen
any impacts which might have re
sulted from allowing traffic to use
the road through the winter.
The bridge over Shitike Creek near
the old boy's camp is still out and
will not be replaced until next sum
mer. The Bridge, a part of the B200
road was washed out during the Feb
ruary flood. The road on both sides
of the bridge remains open.
Gaming seeking local handcrafted goods
So far, for the month of September,
Indian Head Gaming Center has given
away three of four Geo Tracker 4x4s
in the "September Geo Tracker
Sweepstakes."
Marvin Ike of Warm Springs, won
the first one on September 8. Vivian
Goodson of Madras, won the second
Geo Tracker. Not only did she win
the Geo Tracker on September 15,
but Vivian also won the very first car
that Indian Head Gaming Center gave
away during Memorial Day Weekend
1995. On Sunday September 22 lucky
winner Tim Snodgrass of Bend, drove
off with another Geo Tracker. Bend
radio station Mix 94 was broadcasting
live from 4p.m. until 7p.m. during
the cash and prize give away. They
will broadcast live again during the
last Geo Tracker giveaway on
September 29 from 4p.m. until 9p.m.
Beginning October 15, Indian
Head Gaming Center will have tables
available downstairs in the Garden
Level from 9a.m. until 11a.m. for
local vendors with quality hand
crafted merchandise. For all the locals
who are interested in showing their
stuff, Indian Head Gaming Center
will puchase what they need for their
gift shop. Although Indian Head
Gaming Center cannot guarantee to
carry everyone's merchandise
immediately, all merchandise will
be looked at and purchased that same
day, while others may be considered
for future purchases.

Talk about a hot summer.. ..and I
don't necessarily mean just the
weather!! The Simnasho Fire was a
major incident. Complete with na
tion wide media coverage. I am also
sad to say that the fire, although still
under investigation, was probably
man-made. The Simnasho Fire con
sumed over 113,000 acres and 10
homes. I am thankful however, that
no lives were lost. Some folks that
are not used to witnessing the de
structive forces of a wildland fire got
to se first hand how powerful fire can
be. It is truly a living, breathing,
destroying force. For anyone that
would like to learn more about fire
behavior and what you can do to
protect yourselves and your property
please contact Fire & Safety. Our
personnel will be happy to help you
become more informed about the
forces of fire. I believe that if we as
a community, have a better under
standing of the hows and whys of fire
behavior we can be better prepared
to protect ourselves and our homes if
the need arises. I for one hope that
another fire of that magnitude does
not come around in a loooooong time
I almost got my spots singed off!!!
I would like to thank all of our
beloved "fire pups" (fire cadet) for
the outstanding job that they all did
this summer. Helpfulness and dedi-

intern Lynn Chavez. Lynn has re
prenticeship program. During this
time she will obtain her Basic
Firefighter, Firefighter I and EMT
Basic Certification. Lynn has chosen
fireEMS as the profession she would
like to pursue. I know she will suc
ceed with flying colors. Our whole
department, Fire & Safety has been
busy, busy, busy with both medical
and fire related incidents. If any one
out there would like to become a Fire
& Safety volunteer please drop on by
the fire hall and fill out an applica
tion. Its a rewarding and exciting
profession. So if you would like to
help others and feel good about what
you are doing, please come on
down ! ! ! Our department really relies
on our volunteers since we have only
ONE medic on duty at each station.
Most of the calls that we respond to
require at least two if not three people
at the scene and if its a fire, well, we
need a lot more than three ! ! ! ! ! Well,
gotta run for now, until next time.
Stay safe and be fire smart.

To the editor,
To my fellow people, I want to let
each eligible Warm Springs Enrollee
voter know that Jason Suarez who is
listed on the upcoming adoption list
is using my Stacona blood to try and
be adopted into the Warm Springs

nor my family's approval. I cannot
tell you how to vote but to just let you
know that I do not approve of this
and that I have never signed for this
to happen.
Thank you.
