I ?
To the editor,
Hello from Pastor Rick. Hey, did
you read the article in the Oregonian
paper dated 71 396? It's title is "Co
habitation is deadly to institution of
marriage". The wonderful world of
"shacking up", or "trial marriage",
or "living together". Yep, a great line
from the article was "A relationship
begun with a lack of commitment
can't withstand the pressures of the
world like a marriage can. As one
pastor put it "Imagine building a
wonderful house-but without nails.
In the first stiff wind, it will col
lapse." Marriages that are preceded
by living together have 50 higher
disruption rates than marriages with
out premarital cohabitation. The joke
here is that in order to avoid a divorce
people live together first, then get
marriage. Only to get a divorce.
People say, "I'll live with someone
because everyone is getting a di-

Today we read of the Dream
Team, the Pro's of basketball
playing in the Olympics. What a
Joke ! They don't deserve the Gold
Medal. Why did they strip Jim
Thorpe of his gold medals. For
earning a few measly bucks to
pay for his education...and now
the Pro Basketball players who
make Millions will be getting the
gold medal.
That takes all the glory out of
the sport when all the best players
who earn more money than what
the whole Olympic committee
has to operate on out there playing
where the young players should
be playing. The Amateur players,
that would make it more realistic
to even things out and give everyone a chance at the gold medal.
Well Jim Thorpe was an American Indian and perhaps that's
why they stripped him of his medals. He done everything
legitimately by winning all those medels in the Olympic games,

Take the opening ceremonies of this years Olympics, thev port came from all regions of the
recognized just about everyone and his dog during the ODenine country, butespecially touching were
night. They even had Mohammed Ali lighting the Olympic torch.
Why have an old broken down person like that with the honors.
Yep! They recognized eyeryone who had some part in the
Olympic games in the past, but not a word was mentioned about
Billy Mills.
The only American to ever win the 10,000 meter race in the
Olympic games ever. And this happened in Tokyo, Japan in the
1 964 games. Well, probably because he is an Indian, an American
Indian. The Running Brave. Well at least they made a movie of his
life which didn't glamorize things much of the Native Americans.
Yep! ! It was a struggle for Robbie Bensen...Ooops, I mean Billy
Mills, during his college days, but Mills stuck with his dreams and
won the 10,000 meter race. Nobody expected him to do anything
as he was just a back up in that race.
Today money talks, and the way things are going maybe it
would be a good profession to get into becoming an agent for one
of them Black athletes who signs their clients up for 8 to 10 million
dollars and how much of that goes to the athlete? It's pathetic to
read the papers of all the money those athletes are asking to be
signed up for a season and in my opinion some of them don't
deserve half of what they expect to get. Take the Pro Basketball
players especially those who play for the Portland Trail Blazers,
if they would make a third of their free shots they could win most
of their games, but when the chips are down they can't even hit the
rim straight and miss all their free shots. It's disgusting, most of
the time I change the channel and watch, "Two Stupid Dogs," on
Cartoon Network, there's more excitement in that program than
watching a basketball game.
Well, there s one thing Warm Springs can be proud of during
these Olympic games. There were two tribal member's envolved
in the opening ceremonies. That of Chelsea Suppah-Cabell, who
took part in the ballet portion where she was a Butterfly with her
costume having wings fifteen feet high, which was a very colorful
event of the ceremonies. And the other tribal member was Gerald
Smith who is the Olympic Boxing team manager. He has followed
his dream of being a member of the Olympic boxing team. What
great accomplishments for both Tribal members. We are all proud
of their efforts during this Olympic games. AHH-NAH-CHI-TOON!!!
vorce anyway. WKUNu. Only one
in eight marriages in the USA ends in
a divorce.
It all began when the Census Bu
reau noted that during one year, there
were 2.4 million marriages and 1.2
million divorces. Someone did the
math without calculating the 54 mil
lion marriages already in existence,
and presto, a ridiculous but quotable
statistic was born. In any single year,
only about 2 percent of existing mar
riages will break up (Petersen, Better
Families). So it you want nails in
your house, wait in the time of God
for your relationship to build those
nails. Then build a good strong house
of marriage. Not a house for the pur
pose of sex, not a house for the need
of companionship or loneliness. A
house of commitment and love that
is the gift of marriage.
See you in church.

Thankful to
loving family
To the editor,
I thank God for my loving family
who helped me with my fund-raising
so I could go on a special vacation
trip in August. If they did not come
forward and worked hard, this trip
would not have been possible for me
to go.
My son, Flood and Jodel donated
money to help buy supplies and the
use of their pickup to pull my tent
camper to Madras for our first fund
raising. We also set up on the Pi-Ume-Sha
grounds and I'm grateful
to the community for allowing me to
do this.
My three daughters, Edith, Pearl
and Melissa worked hard in our food
concession stand preparing and sell
ing the foods to the public. Even Lee
Sorrelhorse was very helpful, and
most of my grandchildren, Benita,
Adrienne, Tilda, Suzie, James and
Eugene. I'm very thankful to my
family, they made me feel special.
Ruth Tewee
I wanted to take them to the park and
play in the sand,
But I had to be their mother instead.
I just want to be their grandma,
Take them to the movie or the county
fair;
Maybe walk through the woods and
watch the birds,
Take them with me for a short vaca
tion, fly through the air.
But I had to be their daddy instead.
I'm older now and slower now. I'm
tired,
Too tired to let them help color eggs,
And too tired to help them bake a
cake,
Or chop fruit for Jell-O, or let them
help wash dishes.
I just work to get it done.
We don't play hide-and-seek under
the covers any more.
Where's Jeremiah? Where'd that kid
go?
We don't tickle ribs and necks and
thunder thighs.
I don't ask, "Are you Mammy's
boy?" anymore.
I know who they are, but who am I?
I can't be Mommy, because I'm
Mother-or Daddy.
But I'm not Mother or Daddy
There are other people called those
names.
And I don't want to be Mother or
Daddy.
I just wanted to be a grandma.
My grandkids have been cheated;
They don't have a mother or daddy
They're off down the road some
where, doing their thing.
And the kids don't have a grandma
because
I have to be somebody that I don't
want to be.
And I've been cheated too.
I just wanted to be a grandma.
