10 July 18, 1996 Warm Springs, Oregon Spilyay Tymoo Iz i .. ,, fe1 During the week of June 23-28, teams from Oregon, Washington and California participated in a Basketball Camp at Oregon State University. One of the drills was a defense listening drill and Orie Made, center, front row, lasted all the way through the listening drill. J.C boys win at state The Jefferson County Major League All-Stars boys team traveled to Hermiston to participate in a 14 team state tournament, July 14 through 21. J.C all-stars received a bye the first round, then played Deschutes County in the second round beating them 6-0. Up next was Redmond which J.C edged out 3-2. Pitching for J.C was Charles Stwyer, coming in for relief was Jeff Greene. On July 1 7 Warriors win Yreka tourney The Warm Springs Warriors, men's fast pitch team, won the Softball fast pitch tournament at Yreka, CA on July 13 and 14. There were five teams involved: Warriors, Yreka, Win River, Tribe and Scotts Valley. The teams played a round robin bracket on Saturday and on Sunday they played a tournament bracket. Cyril Jim, team coach, stated, "The team hit really well this weekend with a team batting average of .440." On Saturday the Warriors played four games, winning three and losing one. Follwing are the scores and opponents: Scotts Valley 17-11, ; July 24, the Warm Springs Recreation will go ;to the Bend Bandits Baseball Kid's Day Game at 6 p.m. at the Vmce Oena Stadium in Bend. Bus will leave the Warm Springs Community Center at 3:30 p.m. Bus will return at the Com munity Center at 10 p.m. You will need to bring $8 for admission and all-you-can-eat hot dogs and Pepsi. r i f i O'Jt vKJ ' k- Ay' . , Utilities Department donates two bags of cans to Shasta Smith for her trip to Belgium in August. Shasta is still accepting donations of cans. She has had much support from Health & Wellness staff, iT J.C will play The Dalles at six p.m. with the winner advancing to the championship and the loser playing on July 1 9, to get into championship. There are four tribal members who made the team: Jacob Wise, Charles Stwyer, Jeff Greene and Louis Smith. The remaining members: Chad McFarland, Colter Barnes, Kelly Devine, Brennan Whitaker, Jeff Cloud, Antony Hansen, Eddie Jaimes, Jared Adams, Justin Brunson and Jacoby Ellsbury. Manager is Dave Hansen and Coach is Kevin Story. Tribe 6-1, Yreka 15-0 and the final on Saturday Win River edged out Warriors 3-2. On Sunday Cy Jim, stated, "It took us awhile to wake up in the first game, winning a close one against Scotts Valley 3-2. But we got the bats going in the championship game, winning 11-7, beating Win River." Team members were as follows: Cyril Jim, Maynard Jim, Wendell Jim, Donnie Bagley, Willie Bagley, William Katchia, Rudy Clements, Joel Martinez and Sam also Virgil Windyboy. Eagle Spirits Tournament scheduled for July 27, 28, 1996 in Warm Springs The Eagle Spirits Co-Ed Slowpitch Softball Tournament will be held on July 27 & 28, 1996 at the fields behind the Warm Springs Com munity Center. This will be a true double elimina tion with a total of 12 teams. Entry fee is $225 and the deadline is July 22, 1996. Send the check or money order to: Rick Minthorn, PO Box 955, Warm Walkers first in relay Schrand stated, "The Warm Springs Walkers raised $ 1 ,500 of the $ 9,000 total raised over the week end." Special recognition goes to Daniel Brown and Sandra Rudd for being the top two fund-raisers for the Walkers team. The Warm Springs Walkers team consists of: Linda Schrand, Mariann Smith, Miles Rudd, Sandra Rudd, Jamie Rudd, Susan Mathew, Daniel Brown, Kevin English, Nancy Farner, Ruthie McKenzie, Candace Dorrough and Phyllis Michaels. Linda Schrand, Warm Springs Walkers member, reported that on June 28 and 29, the Warm Springs Walkers placed first in the Relay For Life held at Mountain View High School in Bend. Schrand said the "purpose of this Relay for Life is to raise money for the Cancer Society. Money raised will be used for re search, education, and patient ser vices, for Deschutes, Jefferson, and Crook counties." Each team kept at least one team member walking or running around the track for a twenty four hour period. Each team had spon sors donate money. 4
