United Tribes takes championship for third year
The 8th Annual Blackwolf Suicide
Prevention Tournament was held
April 5-7, 19 at the Warm Springs
Community Center. Sixteen teams
vycd for the championship and the
United Tribes team from Idaho won
it for the third lime in a row.
Second place went to Simnasho
Travelers who played a very close
game against United Tribes. Third
Place went to the Northwest Chiefs.
Fourth place went to Ukiah,
California. Fifth place went to the
Rock Hawks of Warm Springs,
Oregon. Sixth place went to the
Nevada Rebels.
Sportsmanship award went to J
Bar J of Bend, Oregon. Mr. Hustle
went to Alex Somcrs. High Scorer,
MVP and 3-pointcr was John Takes
No Enemy. Mr. Rebound was Jerome
Davis. Maury Sanchez was named
Top Gun.

Takes No Enemy takes home awards
Basketball Player, John Takes No
Enemy, received four awards at the
Blackwolf Suicide Prevention
Tournament held April 5-7. He
received the Most High Point games
(3 1 points in one game), Most 3 points
(21 in one game), MVP and All Star.
He played for United Tribes, who
also won Championship for the third
time in a row.
Takes No Enemy is originally
from the Crow Reservation but
moved to White Swan, Washington
two years ago with his wife Trudce
and two kids, John, Jr., and Tashina.

Takes No Enemy was interviewed
by a movie producer along with his
friends, relatives and coaches. His
story was then sold to Sports
Illustrated and printed about five
years ago. The movie producer would
like to direct a movie about his life
story.
Takes No Enemy was known to
drive to the hoop and do a 360 degree
turn and slam dunk the ball at Hardin
High School in Montana.
Takes No Enemy was asked by
many colleges to play basketball for ,
them. He chose to play for Rocky
Mountain College so he could be
close to home.
Takes No Enemy is a humble, shy
person who does not look for
recognition. In the future he would
like to help Native American youth
know the importance of life.
He enjoyed playing in this
tournament and plans to tell his
friends from the Crow Reservation
about it so that they can play next
year.
Johnathan Takes No Enemy, wife Trudee and children John, Jr. and
Tashina traveled here for Blackwolf Tourney. Takes No Enemy was
recognized for his story printed in Sports Illustrated.

County Fair and Rodeo, as Native
American Superintendents.
Requires encouragement of en
tries, taking of entries, displaying
entries in a showing fashion. Sug
gestions for a judge, clerking the
judge, placement of ribbons and re
leasing the exhibits to exhibitors.
, You would be working with a
team to put on the largest attended
event in Jefferson County. Two pre
fair meetings are held to help Su
perintendents prepare for the fair, to
be held July 24 through 27, 1996.

The championship game with United Tribes against Simnasho Travelers held a lot of sky high jumping and
; fast action to win the championship. The defending champions, United Tribes, won by one point.

Ninth Annual Reservation Relay set for May 4
The Chief Spirits will hold their
2nd Annual Play 4 Fun Games on
May 3, 4, & 5, 1996. There will be 12
& Under Boys and Girls All-Indian
Basketball teams. Six girl's teams, 8
player per team, six boy's teams, 8
players per team. Six 6-year old &
under Pee Wee entertainment, 5 play
ers per team (no fee).

Mini Marathon set for April
The Kah-Nee-Ta Mini Marathon
has been scheduled for April 20,
1996, at the Kah-Nee-Ta Village.
The 14.33 mile race will begin at
Simnasho and blend into rolling hills
with two major hills on course. All
blacktop from start to finish with
water stations at the 3.0, 8.0, 9.8 and
12 mile marks. A shuttle will leave
for Simnasho at 8:30 a.m. for
Simnasho for the race to begin at
9:00 a.m. All events are O.R.R.C.
certified.
The 10K, 3.0 mile and 1.0 mile
fun runwalk will begin at 10:00a.m.
from the Kah-Nee-Ta Village. The
1 OK will be flat and blend into rolling
hills with the turn around point on
the main road with water station at
the 1 .5 mile mark and the turn around
point.
The 3.0 mile will be all pavement
and the turn around point will be on
the main road with a water station at
the 1.5 mile turn around point.
The 1 .0 mile fun run w alk w ill be
all pavement.
The age groups w ill be 60 & over,
50-59, 40-49, 30-39, 19-29, 14-18
and 13 & under.
Early registration begins at the
Community Center office Monday
through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00
p.m. Day ot race registration begins
from 8:30 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. at the
Kah-Nee-Ta Village. Entry fee is
$5.00 without a T-shirt, $10.00 pre
registered and $12 on day of race.
Discount swim passes will be given
out at registration desk. All entries
will receive a raffle ticket and a T
shirt (except $5.00 entries). Raffle
prizes will be a variety of items.
The 14.33 mile overall winner,
male and female, will receive a one
night stay at the Kah-Nee-Ta Lodge
plus ajogging outfit. All age divisions
medals for 1st through 3rd place,
male and female for each event will
be given out.
All runners must park on the North
Gravel parking lot.

The 9th annual Reservation Relay
is set for Saturday, May 4, 1996, at
the Kah-Nee-Ta Vacation Resort
beginning at 9:00 a.m. from the Kah-Nee-Ta
and ending at Kah-Nee-Ta.
There will be a staggered start for
teams with predicted eight hours or
more, starting at 7:30 a.m.
The course will be 58 miles in
length and will have some tough legs
along the course. Most of the course
is very simple with rolling hills and
a lot of flat surfaces. The first third
will be on pavement, the second third
on gravel and the last third on
pavementgravel combination. A lot
of scenic beauty will be seen along
this course.
Teams will consist of five runners
each, except Juniors who may use
seven. All teams will alternate legs
of 4.0 miles (youth 3.0) each.
Exchange points will be marked
clearly. Each team must run their
runners alternately in the same
sequence. Teams will have maps and
course descriptions and are
responsible for directing their
runners. Any runners off course will
have to resume where they left the
course. All teams must carry their
own watch and score card and keep
their own leg times. Please use only
one vehicle to each team and display
a team name sign on that vehicle.
Two to five members of opposite sex
justifies co-ed status.
