Susan Guerin is teaching gymnastics to boys and girls ages 3-12. She has taken a group to see an
international gymnastics meet at the Rose Garden January 27 and plans to attend other gymnastics
meets in the future. Practice is held Mondays and Tuesdays in the basement of the Community Center
from 4-6 p.m.
Wilsonville ends Madras winning streak

Wilsonville for a regular league game
Tuesday night Feb. 13, 1996. The
Wilsonville Wild Cats put the claws to
the Buffaloes beating them 58-42, for
the first league game loss of the year for
the Buffs.
; The season wasn't really peaches
and cream for the Buffs but they put
things together when they needed it in
the past getting by three games in OT,
one went intodoublc OT. So there is no
surprise they dropped a game.

Vallcy league have a good team and .
most of them arc underclassmen. They
will be around again next year. Well so
will Madras...

Department will be taking sign-ups
for the 1 996 Little League season on
Monday, March 11, and again on
March 25, at the Administration
lobby from 9 a.m. to noon. And again
at the Warm Springs Market from 2
to 5 p.m. The registration deadline is
set for Monday, March 25 for all
interested children. This will be the
final day applications for registra
tion will be accepted.
This is for all local youth ages 6
years to 15 years of age. The dead
line for age being August 1st. Divi
sions of the league are as follows: T
Ball is Co-ed and for children ages 6
8 years of age. Minor League Girl's
and Boy's is for ages 8 to 1 1 years,
Major Girl's and Boy's will be for
youth ages 10 to 12 years and the
Senior program is for youth ages 13
to 15 years, both boys and girls. (

1 1 -9 at the end of the first period. There
were a lot of turnovers that was costly
for the Buffs during the game. The
Wild Cats fought back to end the first
hal f of play in a deadlock with the score
22 apiece.
The third quarter the two teams
battled evenly throughout the quarter
scori ng basket for basket and ended up
in a 33-33 tie. In the final quarter the
Wild Cats got a little jump on the
Buffs to pull ahead forthe rest of the
game. In the closing moments of the
game it was keep away for the Wild
Cats after they built a little lead
causing the Buffs to do some foul
ing in order to get the ball.
Wilsonville was pretty deadly at the
foul line getting 1 1 of 1 4 free throws
to increase their lead and eventually
begins March 11
out by mail for youth that have par
ticipated in previous years. If your
child is new, applications can be
picked up at the Recreation office.
All returning coaches need to notify
the Recreation office on their deci
sion to return. More volunteer
coaches are needed. Try-outs are
scheduled for Monday April 1 , at the
Papoose field and the Girl's field.
All coaches are encouraged to attend
the meeting scheduled for Monday
April 8, at Madras (site to be an
nounced). The Major league jambo
ree is set for Saturday April 13, at the
Fairgrounds in Madras. First league
games are scheduled for April 22nd
for Major league teams. The week
following for the Minor and T-ball
teams (local). For more information,

The tree pointers came from

This puts the Buffs with a 1 1 win
1 loss in the Tri-Valley league and
14-3 overall for the season. Their
next game will be with The Dalles
Indians, here on the home court.
The season is winding down pretty i
fast and it will soon be the State1
play-offs, in Eugene, on the U-0
campus in the Pit.
BAD tournament scheduled
The Confederated Tribes of
Umatilla Indian Reservation invite
all youth to participate in the 9th
Annual Basketball Against Drugs
(BAD) Tournament, to be held March
25-31 at the Mission Community
Center near Pendleton.
The Tournament Committee is
now accepting team applications and
entry fees. The first eight teams in
each division that have paid the reg
istration fee will be eligible to par
ticipate. Following are the division
requirements, entry fees and dates of
play.
March 25-27: all players in these
divisions will each receive a BAD T
shirt Ages 4-5 Co-ed exhibition games
$25 per team
Ages 6-8 Co-ed exhibition games
$25 per team
Ages 9-12 Boys & Girls games
. $50 per team ( 1 st thru 4th place and
sportsmanship, trophies will be
awarded in this division, as well as

Scott Riddle, a Jr. was named
the player of the year by the voting
of the league coaches.
Joining Riddle on the all
conferance first team was team mate
Sr. Point Guard TJ. Foltz. Evan
Brown, the Buffs Mentor, was
named the Coach of the year, in the
Tri-Valley legue.
Two trther Madras players re
ceived honorable mentions and they
were Michael Kirsch, a Jr. and
Brian Miller, a So. This was a real
great year for the Buffaloes who
will be going on to state.

The 14th Annual WarmSprings
Magpies All Indian Men's
Basketball Tournament was held
at the Warm Springs Community
CenterFebruary 23-25, 1996. This
was a nine team true double
elimination tournament (back
door). Teams that participated
were: Sidwalter Scouts,
Toppenish Skins, NW
Roadrunners, Nevada Rebels, NW
Chiefs, United Tribes, Wapato
Cavaliers, WS Timberwolves and
the host Magpies.

Wild Horse Race school to be
A Wild Horse Race School will
be given at Madras, Oregon on March
23, 1996 from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. at the
Indoor arena. Cost will be $50 per
student. Instruction in saddling,
riding, shanking and mugging. There
will be a jackpot race after school
and also a video replay of instruc
tion. Weather permitting on Sunday,
March 24, 1996 at 1 p.m. there will
be open and novice jackpot races at
the Warm Springs arena. Awards will
be given. Only paid participants al
lowed in arena (no exceptions).

Paula Brisbois was selected as Out-standing bowler 1995 during
the 19th Annual All -Indian Bowling tournament in Reno, NV.
Selection was based on the bowler who placed in all the events
entered, which she qualified by placing first or second.
