6 February 15, 1996 Warm Springs, Oregon Spilyay Tymoo Spilyay Tymoo Sports Wilsonville ends Madras perfect record..., Someone closed the gate on the road to u undefeated season when the Madras White Buffaloes trav eled to Wilsonville for a regular league game Tuesday night Feb. 1 3, 1 9. The Wilsonville Wildcats put the claws to the Buffaloes beat ing them 58-42, for the first league game loss of the year for the Buffs. The season wasn't really peaches and cream for the Buffs but they put things together when they needed it in the past getting by three games in OT, one went into double OT. So there is no surprise they dropped a game. Wilsonville a new school in the Tri- Valley league have a good team and most of them arc underclass men. They will be around again next year. Well so will Madras... The game started out on the right track in the first quarter as the Buffs led 1 1-9 at the end of the first period. There were a lot of turnovers that was costly for the Buffs during the game. The Wild Cats fought back to end the first half of play in a dead lock with the score 22 apiece. The third quarter the two teams battled evenly throughout the quar ter scoring basket for basket and ended up in a 33-33 tie. In the final quarter the Wild Cats got a little jump on the Buffs to pull ahead for the rest of the game. In the closing moments of the game it was keep away for the Wild Cats after they built a little lead causing the Buffs to do some fouling in order to get the ball. Wilsonville was pretty deadly at the foul line getting 1 1 of 14 free throws to increase their lead and eventually coming out the victorsof the game. Scoring for the Buffs were: Scott Riddle 1 2, Miller 8, Kirsch 7, Foltz 6, Gregg 3, Johnson 3, Guiney 3, Barnes. For Wilsonville: Douglas 23, B. Ludlow 1 10, Remington 8, Bradley 7, D. Ludlow4, The tree pointers came from Miller who had 2, Kirsch also had 2, and Guiney I, for Wilsonville Bra dley 1 and Douglas 1. This puts the Buffs with a 1 1 win 1 loss in the Tri-Valley league and 14-3 overall for the season. Their next game will be with The Dalles Indians, here on the home court. The season is winding down pretty fast and it will soon be the State play-offs, in Eugene, on the U-0 campus in the Pit. White Buffalo Girls run wild over Wildcats "As I Sees Urn!" The Madras White Buffalo girls basketball team closed out their final home game in fine fashion drubbing the Wilsonville girls 68-32, behind a well balanced scoring attack by the team. Annie Gregg did end up with the most points with a total of 13. The Madras girls jumped out to a 26-5 first quarter lead as the visitors had many turn over's and the Ma dras girls turned them into quick points on fast breaks. It was a very cold night for the Lady Wild Cats as they missed many shots, they were also cold at the free throw line, while things were going pretty good for the Buffets, as they got a second shot and some times a third shot under their own basket getting the rebounds repeatedly. Most of the team saw a lot of the action during the game as the bench did a good job while they were in the game and all did some scoring. On the other hand they were called for a lot of fouls which the visitors were not able to capitalize on. Wilsonvilledidmostoftheirscor ing in the second and third quarters staying pretty close to the Buff girls. Madras out scored the visitors in every quarter. In the second quarter the Wild Cats managed to score 10 points while Madras popped in 14, to take 40-15 half time lead. In the third quarter both teams went at it fairly close but the Buffets kept the pressure on the visiting Wild Cat girls and after three quar ters of play the Madras Buffs led 55 26. The final quarter the Wilsonville girls were able to score only 6 points and 13 for the Buffs to clinch the lopsided victory. . Terra Lee Suppah and Katie Christensen each did some good scoring as they both ended up with 12 points apiece. "In the past we've had teams from all over the area and from other Res ervations," said Lou FarTow, Tour nament Committee Secretary, "we look forward to another fun and suc cessful tournament for the kids again this year." Opened the paper to the sports page and the first thing on the front page of the sports section, with the headline, "Blazers look for answers." It seems like they are always looking for answers after each game. They blame players, the management, talk trade. And each time they talk trade its with their best players. Players who make their team what it is today. If it weren't for Rod Stickland and Cliff Robertson where would the Blazers be at this point.. Perhaps not much better but with the play of Strickland and Robinson they get the job done for the Blazers. Each time the Blazers make a deal they pass up people like Alonzo Mourning and get some one who is over the hill. Some times it appears that they want to trade Strickland and Robertson away because they are not over the hill yet. Maybe they should take a look at P.J. Carlesimo, where did he come from? Never heard that name before until they were looking for a new coach. Usually when a name appears there is a good back ground that goes with it. Perhaps he was a guy that would take peanuts to coach the team. Can't understand his game plan, he puts in a player and when it looks like he's made a good decision and the player is doing good and scoring the first thing when the hom sounds Carlesimo is pulling out that player who is doing good. Maybe instead of looking for over the hill players they should look at their coach.. Soon a person will be able to purchase a ticket to the Trail Blazer games with a seating of his choice, and not have to fight a long line for a good seat or pay extra just to get in to the game Just my opinion....
