55 miles an hour? Where? There
are signs along the highways that
says, "Speed Limit 55 MPH."But
who pays any attention to them?
Today if a person travels 55 mph he
is holding up traffic.
Just recently there was a bill past
to lift the speed limits on all high
ways all across the country. Well
it's about time for this to come
about because you never see any
one traveling that slow any more.
Everyone is in a big hurry now days
to get somewhere and they never
seem to mind speeding down the
road.
Yep! If you ask Some folks if
they think the speed limit should be
raised they disagree. They feel speed
kills...yet they never seem to realize
that a person going slow is just as
dangerous as the speedster. I don't know who takes these surveys on the
speed limit, and who they talk to. They must go to the back woods where
people have to travel at a slower rate of speed due to the road conditions.
Everyone wanted to set the speed limit at 65 at one time but the officials
set the speed limit at 55 mph. Everyone was bellyaching around about that.
Now the speed limit is being raised now these who have bellyached about
the 55 mph, limit are now against raising the limit.
: I think some people just like to hear them selves crab around about
anything that slows progress.
Many say speed kills and that the limit shouldn't be raised. These are
probably those who live out in the boon docks and never come out but once
a month for supplies. They never see the everyday life where people have
to commute to work and what a head ache it is when someone is holding
up the traffic,
Yep! The traffic is getting pretty heavy now days here in Central
. Oregon, and if a person drives down the highway at 55 mph he forms a line
of traffic behind him and those drivers get pretty frustrated when they can't
pass. And to make things worse these people who hold up a line of traffic,
when they get to a passing zone they speed up to where no one can pass
. them and when they come back to the regular highway they slow down
: again to hold up the traffic,
: The freeway between Redmond and Bend sure takes the pressure off the
; traffic problem, but we need a Freeway from Warm Springs through Bend,
: to handle the growing traffic we have here in Central Oregon. What we
' really need is a Freeway right out of Portland through Central Oregon,
because traffic is real heavy from the City on weekendsiiljolidayj.; We
: must look to the future and get prepared to handle the traffic a few years
down the road. Yep! the slow cars are the thing of the past and new
; freeways are needed to handle this situation.

The Nation seem to be in a termoil with all the Politicians bickering
around with one another and all trying to put the blame on each other for
such a mess the country is in today.
Yep! The Republican Party blaming the Democrats for getting into
such a big debt. Each Party feels they have a solution on how to balance
the budget with-in seven years.
How in dickens are Republicans going to balance the budget when they
can' t even keep the Federal Employees on the job as thousands of Federal
Employees were sent home on Furlough, until a budget can be worked
out. Some officials feel that the Federal Employees do not need to get back
pay for the time they are not on the job. Well, who's fault is it? They sure
were not the ones who wanted to go home and if they had a budget they
would all be right on the job. Right at Christmas time when its really
important for families to be having a good time giving their kids presents
and stuff.
Just because they are all well to do and have no problems among
themselves they don't give a "Hoot," for the rest of the people.
The way things look with the Republican Party the rich will get richer
and the poor will be doubly worse off, and who's to suffer? All the
youngsters during the Christmas holidays.

A Pope and an Attorney arrived at the Pearly Gates at the same time, and
St. Peter showed them to their quarters. First the pope was taken to his
room, a small, spartan cubicle with a chair, a desk, and a Bible. Then the
lawyer was shown to his room, a massive duplex with women wine, and
a huge waterbed.
"Excuse me," said the lawyer to St. Peter, "there must be some mistake.
Shouldn't the pope have this room?"
St Peter shook his head. "No. We have dozens of popes in heaven, but
you're our first attorney." YIKES

HOW TO MAKE A STATE
TROOPER CRY
(author unknown)
Want to see a state trooper cry...
or drop to his knees, bury his face in
his hands and bawl like a baby and
slam his fist into the side of his patrol
car? It's easy enough to do.
Just load yourself up with "holi
day cheer," add a few beers and drive
your family home.
Twenty minutes later, you're
standing in darkness on the side of a
highway with broken glass and
spilled gasoline at your feet.
Your wife is screaming, pinned
beneath jagged edges of twisted steel.
Your 2-year-old daughter is silent.
Your 6-year-old son is sprawled face
down in the mud.
The state trooper arrives and
smells the alcohol on your breath as
you stumble and try to explain how it
happened. He is not very gentle as he
arrests you for "driving under the
influence"-then pushes you into the
rear seat of the patrol car.
The state trooper then turns around
and pauses for a few moments in the!
cold, lonely night. Tears fill his eyes(
as he says a silent prayer for your
family. f
Congratulations: You've made a
state trooper cry!

Vernon Jackson gave his life
To the editor,
Good Morning Tribal People.
Hope things are going good in your
life and families. Nothing here
(Sheridan), same ole violence, frus
tration, hatred...
This place sort of reminds mc of
the Res. in a lot of ways. Much like
the boarding school system.
There are many ways to imprison
a people. It seems that we Native
American Indians have been tortured
for so long that we accept being
dumped on as the way it is !?
We have been under the
government's rule, sick values, hold
ing us down for so long that they no
longer need to keep us under their
thumb cause we are so far beaten, or
at least think we are, that we no
longer have the spirit to fight back,
so we hold ourselves down.
Why don't our Indian people at
least try to fight back? At least de
fend themselves?
Is it that hopeless? Are wc made
to feel so down on oursel ves, so hope
less that we are not willing to resist
our rape-o's....that rape our people
daily. There are many forms of rape.
And these happy smiling face uncar
ing employees are, the worst kind:
masked rape-o's.
Vernon Jackson is a man in my
book. He did all he could, with what
little he had to work with. To ensure
that we enjoy a better lifc-His Indian
People.
Vernon gave his life for his people.
He realized that there are more im
portant things in this existence than
.life. His family, his people, future
generations...Now all these jerks are

people's bones, death. Their living is
our dying.
Society, their society, teaches us
from day one that wc arc inferior. I
don't buy that.
Wc arc socialized through school,
media, religions, etc. etc. to think we
arc less. We even dress like white
people!?! Without giving it a second
thought of why we buy into a system
that is killing us. Practicing genocide
on us.
Our Indian people adjust much
like being in prison. I see a lot of
people adjust and "live" their life out
in here. Just as you see people adjust
to the Res. & "live" out their lives
accepting being lead around by their
nose. Do people think their own
thoughts or just parrot conventional
"wisdom"?
1 think if one thinks their own
thoughts and doesn't follow the rest
of the sheep they are branded as too
radical.
You see domestic sheep being fed
by their keepers. You see bighorn
sheep on top of the mountain, surviv
ing by their own wit. Which is a
harsher, harder life but at least the
wild animal is living by their own
standards, values, creative
thought. ...laws, which are the mother
Earth's rules, regs., laws of nature.
Society, its rules are designed to
keep Indian people domesticated
sheep following their keepers around
and accepting whatever he tosses
them, while his keeper fleeces him.
Well, let you go. ..just

for our people
Indian people have become like
scared sheep. Too afraid to even
think! Too afraid to accept the reality
that nobody cares about us except us.
We're being fleeced.
People, raise your children to do
their own thinking. Stop, look, lis
ten, Icarn...read....
The Res. belongs to our Indian
people if it isn't meeting our needs
we can amend our government regs.
There are many ways to accomplish
the same end.
We are more than just our worth.
There are principles, values, a way of
Indian living, generations to come,
that is more valuable than a life or
lives.
As Vernon Jackson proved to me.
This man gave his life for us & the
irony is that our people, children, are
never taught to be proud of their
Indian heritage, history.

Bobby Eagleheart
