Tis' the season to be Jolly, a time IT 0
to look back over the past year that "
was....well, So-So. Nothing real
great, or nothing real bad happened.
Yep! A time to reflect back and
say it was a very interesting year.
Working with nothing but friendly,
considerate people. As the happy
holiday season rolls around makes
me feel fortunate to know all you
wonderful people here in Warm
Springs, and all you others who
have put up with me during the year.
Just hope the great relationship will
spill into the coming year and al
ways. This kinda gives me an idea that
it's a good time to wish you all a,
"Merry Christmas and a Most Pros
perous New Year."
"Whew! Did it." I really do mean it. Sometimes I do a lot of B.S.'ing,
around so much and when I try to be sincere people think I'm just kidding
around. But this is "No Bull," I really do mean it, that's to wish everyone
a Merry Christmas, and you know all that stuff. Sort a like a Holiday
Greeting.
It really is the holiday season as all the Malls are very crowded with
people doing their Christmas shopping hustling around wondering what
kind of a present to buy for their favorite or special person. As for myself,
I'm all done Christmas shopping, "All I needed was some socks!"
Rambo - Native Americans
Wuz watching the movie, "First Blood II," Where Stallone, playing '
"Rambo," who at the beginning was in prison at the time, and was let out
to do a special mission. The mission was to go into Vietnam, Cambodia,
well in that area to try to find POW's.
It was an impossible mission and anyone who went into that area was
not likely to return and the Government officials thought this up to satisfy
so many inquiries of POW's from the Vietnam war. The plan was to send
someone in there and thought survival was impossible. The scheme was,
the government officials thought this would quiet down those who had
missing sens, husbands or other relatives there, this would get them off
their backs and let them know, they sent someone there to check this out.
Got to thinking about it for a while and a thought came to mind. Just
recently the Corp- of Engineers had a ground breaking ceremony at
Bonneville Dam The occasion was to improve the In Lieu fishing sites
along the Columbia River for the Indians. This was a promise the
government made at least 50 or 60 years ago when they built the
Bonnaville Dam. They promised to improve the fishing sites and replace
those fishing sites that were flooded after they built the dam.
"Well, these were just my thoughts," Like the Rambo situation, the
government finally came through with the promise they made to the
Indians many years ago, to replace those fishing sites that were flooded,
and also say they kept their word to the Indians. They would take a few
thousand dollars and improve these fishing sites, for what? Well to keep
the Indians off their backs.
Now that the Salmon are pretty near on the endangered species list,
what good will these improved fishing sites for the Indians? The Govern
ment can say they kept their promise they made in order to get the dam
built. Yep ! They should have done it when fishing was prosperous for the
Indian people.
"Bid Deal." Now they can write off a few thousand dollars and tell the
nation of the great deed they done for the Indians and everyone will believe
that they are doing the Indian people good,
Now the nations big budget process is the order of the day where high
officials are trying to find ways to balance the budget. Well the first
Americans are always at the bottom of the totem pole, and get the scraps,
so to speak, and most of the time even the scraps slip through the hands of
the Indians. All reservations are poverty stricken and there are no hope for
some reservations to make on their own. Maybe we should call on,
"Rambo," to help the Native Americans. "Just thoughts."!!! Ahh-Nah-Chi-Toon!!!

Advent. The word means the
"coming." To the Christians the
Gospel story is the coming and giving
from God to His Creation.
Christmas is the time to think
upon the coming of God. God has
been around for a long time. From
the beginning of time there is God.
Yet, we believe in a God who for
reasons of love did not sit on his
hands in heaven but was and is an
active God. So active as to become a
human being born of a virgin; laid in
a feed box for a bed.
I am asked a lot to play the role of
Santa Claus. I guess because of my
size, laugh, and beard I would make
a good Santa. And you know what, I
make kids smile and people feel good Back in Germany we wanted to
about life for a moment. Yet I say no write a letter of thanks,
to playing the role. The American Thanks to the people of the Warm

Parent expresses concerns
To the editor,
I am writing this letter in regards
to the Girl's JV and Varsity coaches
at the Madras Senior High School. I
was very angry and disappointed that
my daughter did not make either JV
or Varsity this year.
I know that my girl is talented and
expresses ambition in the game of
basketball and I am not the only one
who recognizes her talents. Many
other people also identify her talents.
This is why I was so upset when she
was not selected for either team.
There are also a few other parents
whose children were not selected and
who just as upset as we are!
Mr. Peterson, the head coach, said
that he picked the best players from
the girls that tried out, which, in my
opinion is not true. He told her that
she has the skills, but made some bad

And as far as Mr. Reedinger, the
JV Coach, is concerned, he chose
almost all sophomore girls for the JV
team. NOTE: Mr. Reedinger was the
girl's freshman coach last year. He
held two positions for two sopho
more girls who did not even make it
to the try outs. Now this is definitely
not fair. He also chose three fresh
man girls, while the freshman coach
said they are looking for girls for the
freshman team.
If decisions cannot be made on
fairness of all participating students
maybe Madras 509-J School District
should consider adding an additional
team to play in the same league and
to be considered as team two.
How long is our Tribe going to
invest in the Madras High School
sporting events and our youth's tal
ents continue to be overlooked?! This
is a discouragement and a disappoint
ment to our youth. Many of them
don't even want to try out for sports
for this reason. Because our Tribe
invests money forourchildren'sedu
cation, support for school activities
and functions, this should be seri
ously considered to continue estab
lishing "a relationship between ' our
two communities.

Volunteers needed
During the winter months, when
the snow flies, many Seniors in our
community are in need of someone
that can shovel snow in their
driveways and walkways to allow
them to get out safely. Many are in
need of low cost services, and in
some cases cannot afford to pay for
any services. Central Oregon Council
on Aging would like to know if there
are people throughout the local
communities that can offer their
services on a regular or emergency
basis. Also needed are drivers with 4
wheel drive vehicles, that can offer
their services to deliver Meals on
Wheels during heavy snow. Please
call our main COCOA office in
Redmond, at 548-8817, or contact
your local Senior Center and ask for
the Site Coordinator. Thank you for

Dear Cheryl Lee:
I would like to take this time to
give a big thank you to the Mariah
Construction for the gift of three large
turkeys for our Thanksgiving dinner.
The yams were also great. Thank you
for these too.
I asked around to find where these
turkeys come from and who paid for
them. I found all the turkeys were not
paid by the Confederated Tribes of
Warm Springs, but were gifts of our
construction company.
I could not find your address in
the telephone book, so I thought this ,
was a good way to express the grati
tude for all of us of the Simnasho
Longhouse.
