The holiday season opens at Bend's Mirror Pond Gallery with the "Setting the Holiday Table" exhibit. A public reception for the show is scheduled for Friday, November 3 from 5:30 to 8 p.m. The show will be on display through December 4. The seasonal exhibit showcases the works of a select group of Oregon's best fiber, glass, ceramic, metalwork and woodworking artists and designers. Their one-of-a-kind place settings, table lines and giftwarc will be complemented by merchan dise from event sponsor Dansk. All works are available for immediate sale for holiday entertaining. The exhibit was curatcd by Justyn Livingston, a designer association with such companies as Williams Sonoma, Pottery Barn and Esprit who now lives in the Sisters area. Accord ing to Central Oregon Art Associa tion Executive Director Catherine Voters must be Windus, "Justyn created a design theme for each table. The settings arc a delight to the eye and showcase good design, both commercial and hand-crafted. The artists in this show are top notch and Justyn has art di rected them beautifully." Ever wonder about your brain? What it does? How it works? What it looks like? Brain Matters, a traveling exhibit from the Oregon Museum of Science and Industry, will be on display at the Warm Springs Health and Wellness Center beginning Monday, November 13. Funded by the National Institute of Health, Brain Matters was developed by OMSI, Oregon Health Science University and the University of Oregon in partnership with local community groups throughout Oregon. Designed with colorful graphics and "hands on" displays, the purpose of the exhibit is to give visitors to the Center the opportunity to gain insight into the wonder of the brain and its importance in our lives. Brain Matters is constructed to allow all ages, from prc-school through adults, to interact with the components of the exhibit. Visitors will be able to see and touch brain models, explore how messages arc sent through the brain and simulate the effects of alcohol and cocaine on the adult brain. Brain Matters will be on display at the Wellness Center from November 13 through January 13, 1 9. All members of the community are welcome to come and view the exhibit during regular Center hours. Hand-crafted fair dates set "Hand-crafted Holiday" is the theme for November and December at Bend's Mirror Pond Sales Gallery. "We are asking artists to submit works that are one of a kind afford able gift items," says Central Oregon Arts Association executive director Catherine Windus. Tony, Eliza & Marella VanPelt On October 31, 1995 at about 12:30 p.m. officers of the Madras Police department responded to a fight involving several juveniles at the intersection of 8th and Buff in Madras. The investigation revealed that during the altercation one shot from a small caliber handgun was fired. No injuries were sustained from the gun shot however a pick up truck in the area of the fight was struck causing minor damage. It was re ported that bats were also used in the altercation. Minor injuries were sustained as a result of being struck by the bats. No medical attention was required. Three male juveniles were taken into cus tody. One of the suspects was trans ported to the Juvenile Detention Cen ter in Bend. Charges with menacing, unlawful possession of a firearm and carrying a concealed weapon. The other two suspects were released to parents. The incident does not appear to be gang related at this time.
