What has happened to the
"Meet the Candidate Night," at
the Agency Longhouse? There are
people who are wondering why
this hasn't been set up where the
Nominees for Tribal Council
would have the opportunity to
express themselves of why they
are running for the Tribal Council
Position.
In the past this was the time for
each nominee to use the time to
give his reasons for running for
the Tribal Council. The only thing
I know of is that KWSO had set up
a time for all Nominees to speak
their peice to be aired over the
radio. And to me thats not the
right way for them to express themselves or to go. There should be the
Meet the Candidate night where they can express their desires to be on
the Tribal Council. If a nominee has the true convictions and desire to
be on the Tribal Council he should be more than willing to get up and
speak to the audience. Give his reasons he wants to be elected and his
goals and objectives on behalf of the Tribes as a whole.. Also to be
ready to answer any questions tribal members may have for them of
how they stand on certain issues.
: There are people who feel that talking into a microphone and a
recorder is not the way to go. A person who is really interested on
serving on the Tribal Council should be more than willing to speak to
all the fans at the longhouse. As a matter of fact that would be the way
to go, to tell it like it is.
, Yep! We are not playing around with Peanuts and Marbles here, we
are talking of high priority business of the tribes and shouldn't be
taken lightly. We should not look at a Tribal Council Position as, hey,
it' s your turn to be on the council. You could do just as good as the next
guy, "Nope," this is a serious postion to be filled and should be with
someone who has the knack for the business world. There are several
issues to be addressed by the Tribal Council for the protection of the
Reservation as a whole. We've got our Treaty Right to be protective
over. We can't give an inch on anything no matter who it may upset.
Because it is the tribes as a whole whom we are looking out for. Make
the general public understand of what's rightfully ours by the signing
of the Treaty's with the United States Government many years ago.
Take the Water Negotiations just recently where we almost lost our
soul to the state. I say don't give not even an inch of anything that
we've aquired by the Treaty. (NIGH!!!)
SS SS SS
: Well, the housing referendumn kinda went, "Ka-Poof," from the
lack of voters to the polls to make it valid as required in the
constitutation.
With an issue such as this you'd imagine there would be more than
'enough voters because everyone knows that there is a great need for
more housing around here. Even if a person objects to the whole issue
he should have gotten out and voted. If it were for a bonus you'd have
'gotten trampled standing in line. But for important issues there is no
; interest. Here the council is trying to find ways to help our people with
housing and such people don't seem to care. People say we spend
money foolishly, well, this is one good example of spending money
foolishly, by having the referendum and there are not enough votes to
make it valid. All the expenses go down the drain foolishly.
Yep ! We do need homes like a cougar needs a Llama, Ayee ! ! The
reason some people didn't bother to vote was because there was not
enough information presented regarding the issues at hand. Perhaps
if people would attend all the district meetings they would have
adequate information on the matter. At the district meetings is where
a person can ask the questions he needs clarified for a better
understanding on things. People could even offer suggestions on how
to handle things, who knows there might be some good ideas floating
around out there but no one wants to say anything.
There were district meetings called, even had meals prepared
before the meetings so as people didn't have to rush home to prepare
a meal than come to the meetings. Maybe the meals were so good that
the people had to go home to settle their food watching TV.
There are some people that say, "Include the younger tribal members
in on these matters. But you can't force anyone to do anything against
his will. Because he would much rather go to the gym and play
basketball than go sit in a meeting. Might say a, "Wannabe" basketball
player. I guess you could say, "They Tried." To play basketball that
is..
Yep! I do agree that the younger set should become involved with
the problems the tribes face today. There are a lot of bright minds out
there going to waste, and many of them do need housing for themselves.
AHH-NAH-CHI-TOON! ! !
To the editor,
I am sorry to inform each and
everyone of this delay as to holding
this raffle drawing for the 1982
Cadillac Fleetwood Brougham which
was to have been held on Tuesday,
February 28. 1 know many of you are
anxiously waiting to hear of the re
sults. I have tried to do my best to
encourage the boys that are going to
attend this function, but they them
selves have been very busy with their
school activities, homework, sports
and trying to live up to being in good
behavior at home.
Also the children have been in
volved with other activity that is
shared with their families. Since I
have been working lately, I haven't
really had the time to follow through
with my commitments, but each and
everyday I strive to make this type of
activity become a reality for our
youth. The responsibilities for fol
lowing through on the many projects
is very time consuming and take
1 10 of ones effort, which many of
us don't or cannot give even a small
of helping with the variety of
fundraising.
The group started out in good
standing, but a time progresses the
trial and errors seem to overwhelm
everyone's efforts to make this work.
Besides I am still waiting for any of
the sellers who may have sold some
tickets to return stubs and monies
and those who have acknowledged
that they will donate prizes. If you
still have them I would like to ask
that you bring the to me or give them
to one of the boys andor parents. I
am still waiting for tickets to be re
turned from Olympia, Yakama, Spo
kane, Washington and Warm Springs,
Klamath Falls, and Salem Oregon
along with Los Angeles, California.
The people who I have had the
contact with from the state of Hawaii
also have stated they aren't prepared
for this function. I have been in con
stant contact as to set-up another ac
tivity for Oahu as to fulfill this effort
for this boys and possibly a girl's
team for later this summer. I don't
want to let this activity fail for it will
be a once-in-a-lifetime chance as well
as a memorable one for many of our
youth to be allowed to go to this state
or to other areas of this world.
So please bear with us as we keep
striving ahead and I know many
people do become distrustful and
think that this is all for my own pur
pose but I want to assure you all that
I will do all I can to make this activity
become a reality for our youth.
As you may note, I've chose the
date of June 25, Sunday with hope to
tie it in with the Pi-Ume-Sha Pow
Wow weekend.
Sincerely,
William Moses

"Poet" presents poem
Efforts assisted families in need
Staff and Parents at the Early
Childhood Education Center,
Your charitable gifts of shoes,
jackets and clothing is sincerely
appreciated by my family and our
friends in need.
Through your effort, we made
available to three families needed
shoes, coats and warm clothing. Two
newborn infants also benefited from
the gifts: shoes, sleepers and
undergarments. I will ask senior
citizens and single mothers to stop
by and select from the remaining
shoes and jackets.
Again, thank you. The fact of
giving is truly our reward on this
earth.
Sincerely,
Marg and Ivan Gabriel
Roll roll roll your car to slam off
the street, and it didn't even take a
month for you to sell out in the driver's
seat. Oh well and too bad, and not so
sad, but I bet you were pretty mad.
Because now your game is just a
materialistic illusion and with an
ignorant conclusion is what you got
from your own confusion. You should
know whom this is, and as well as the
people I'm talking to. It's the Poet
and that is all I should have to say for
this small community.
I'll let you young natives know
that a life of hard alcohol and drugs
will put a limit toward your dreams.
It will be a road of many detours and
deadends, so don't let stupidity get
the best of you cause it will catch up

to you sooner or later as an individual,
and you are the one who needs to be
in control.
It's your future to conquer, and
higher education can be tough and
you might become confused and
mixed up, but don't just simply quit,
for that is not the ticket. It is smooth
as ice to be all that, but in order to
make your bank fat you got to be
concerned about the facts, and to not
make the same mistake twice. This is
the only way to live purely, and with
no front of fake acts. So just ahh
slamming babies, and in your face
with distaste, for my color is Native
American blood red, and I'd like to
say to all the brothers and sisters,
don't forget to use your head.

We wish you happy birthday, brats!
Happy Birthday to our two BRATS
Gibson L. Danzuka-Lip-pah A,
you are so special to us both with
your smile that's always there when
we all need it and your willingness
to help like a grownup. We all love
you so very much.
Your sisters (Marcy & Be-ca) love
you too.
Marcellina A. Picard-Kiss-n-wy,
you are also special to us, just
remember you don't have to be like
other people (we know what you do
to earn a new truck). Just be yourself,
you make us so very proud with all
the (right) decisions you make for
yourself. There is so much waiting
for you out in the world, don't mess
up now. We all love you so very
much. Your brother and sister
(Gibson & Becca) love you too.
Your Uncle Jun-Juns sends a hug
& big kiss to you both for your
birthday, and always remember him,
no matter where he is or what he is
doing.
He says they can take him away,
but can't take his love for everybody
away.
Love you both always,
Mom & Dad
