Their total minutes were 68,593 accumulated by 58 participants, an average of 1 183 minutes per person. Henley Hornets top field at Holiday tourney The Henley Hornets of Klamath Falls prevail at the Madras Holiday basketball tournament edging out the host White Buffaloes by a slim margin of 73-69. It was that last quarter surge by the Henley Hornets that lifted them over a determined eger Buff quicnt The Hor nets had to get their act together or be upset by a non ranked team from the pre-season polls. The Buffs jumped out early in the game and held onto a Utile lead at the intermission. The Hor nets started to make their move in the third quarter slowly creeping and chop ping away at the Buff lead and finally near the end of the fourth quarter the Hornets were able to take the lead away from the Buffs and never relinquished " it again and held on to win the game. The Buffs took charge of the game right from the start containing the big ger Henley Hornets most of the game. At the end of the first quarter the Buffs were out in front 17-10 and out scored henley 23-19 in the second period to lead 42-27 at the half time mark. It was just a great effort on the Madras White Buffaloes who faced the No. 3, rated team in the state according to the pre-season polls. A key factor was holding Hcnleys big Peoples to only three points in the entire game, where usually he is one of the big point producers for the team. The Buffs even out rebounded the big guy all evening long, andacoupleof times they blocked his shots. Phillip Miller was the leading scorer for the Buffs at games end with a total of 19 points dispite leaving the game early in the third quarter with an eye injury where he never returned to ac tion..JakeSuppah contributed 17points to the Buffs scoring, Jacks 15, Johnson 9, Foltz 5, Kirsch 4. Gregg,. Riggs led the scoring for the Henley team with atotal of 23 points, Stroh 12, Van Fleet 11, Montgomery 11, John son 8, Peoples 3, Schwartz 2, Gobcr 2, Wugh 1 , and Andclotte. The Crook County Cowboys won the third place in double overtime get ting past the pesky Bums Hilandcrs by the score of 67-63. Oregon Golden Gloves set The 1995, Oregon Golden Glove Boxing championships are scheduled for Friday, January 27th, starting at 7:30 P. m. for the elimination's and the finals on Saturday January 28th, starting at 7:30: P.M. The boxing championships will be held in the Portland Conference Center, on 1020, NE 3rd Ave. Just north of Oregon Convention Center of Union Avenue, or Martin Luther King Blvd. Open Class Amateur Boxers from throughout the Western States and Canadian Provinces will be showing their talent and testing their skill in this classic event. Team Roping , Bulldogging every Wednesday night There is team roping practicing, and for the Macho Men, there is Bulldogging practining also, every Wednesday night from 6-10 P.M. Tournament candidates The annual Warm Springs Holiday Basketball Tournament is scheduled to begin December 28, 1994 and run till December 31. Queen candidates are in the process of selling raffle and session tickets. They are being sold at $3.00 a session, $ 1 5.00 for the season ticket and $1 DO for the raffle tickets. The Junior court is selling the raffle tickets and the candidates include; Marie Kalama, her parents are Foster and J'Dean Kalama, Carmel Andrews, her mother is Nadine Alvarado, Andrea Sohappy, her parents are Don and Lola Sohappy. The senior court consists ofSuzie Briseno, her mother is Patricia Kalama, Penny Moody, her mother is Mcrci Miller, Mavis Kirk, her father is Oliver Kirk, and Cecilia Frank, she is the daughter of Lillian Frank Cuevas. Scholarships available Over 100,000 collegiate athletic scholarships are available each year to male and female high school and junior college student athletes. Accident claims cowboy at National Finals Rodeo A Tribute to Brent Thurman, a Bullridcr who died in the hospital six days after receiving injuries during the bull riding competition in the National Finals Rodeo, in Las Vegas, Nev. Thurman suffered injuries on Sun day from a bull he was riding, when it bucked him off and stepped on his head. He was in critical condition with scrvere facial and cranial fractures.
