6 December 9, 1994 Warm Springs, Oregon Spilyay Tymoo Spilyay Tymoo Sports Redmond wins championship title for second time by Bis Rat Suppah There was a lot of good competition through the weekend. A lot of the young athletes seem to excel harder during a tournament Redmond came second year in a row to play again, taking the championship with ease. The athletic abilities in the sport are getting tougher every year at a younger age, making competition great Thanks to all the parents giving their kids support, and to the coaches who give up their time, to work with the kids. It is great to sec WSCC program four days a week going through fundamentals with those who want to get in there and learn. For it has helped our daughter Val Redstar ,a lot Who looks up to her brothers and sisters who competes in the sport, Leif, Cheryl, LilBull Owl Suppah. ' It's to bad there's not enough of us to go around, to put on more activities for the youth, in all ages. To keep them occupied and off the streets. For they're not all athletes, so there's other activities they may take interest in. Also more tutors are needed to work with the kids in their education which is vital. One of the main reasons for our kids not being in school sports, their poor grades. They need more support from the home, and community, to let them know we care. Thanks to Inter-Tribal Sports store and the Warm Springs Apparel for getting out the awards in a short notice, due to a mix up elsewhere. Behind every man there's a good woman to hold and support them in setting up an activity. That goes for my better half in life, my wife Lucy for all the hard work she put into the tournament Couldn't have done it without her. During the half court shoot out for the money, no one was able to win, by making a half court shot. So the tournament committee announced that a money order will be made out and sent to the Donnie Sampson family in Washington. All our prayers are with them, from the Big Rat Lucy Suppah family and the "We BAAAD boys-girls youth organization of Simnasho, Oregon. Dawn Rowland of WSFPI v Results of 1 994 All-Indian National Finals noted Eagle Spirits 10 hold I0"r"am,?nt Dee Keenen, of Inola, Oklahoma, representing the All-Indian rodeo ' association of Oklahoma was named the all-around champion of this years All-Indian National Finals Rodeo, held in Rapid City, S.D. Keenen edged out Troy Ward for the title by getting a go-round win in the calf roping to push his points over the 4000, mark. Both Ward and Keenen were tied a $3,700. 00, until Keenen got the go-round win. Each year all the top Indian Cowboys gather in the Indian National finals rodeo for the year. A whole lot of dollars are put up for the championship round as the top two .cowboys from each region compete for top honors in their special event(s). ' For some cowboys it's a long hard pull traveling around the country competing every week-end all summer long. But if a person enjoys the sport and enjoys what he is doing nothing can keep him away from the rodeos. Many times cowboys never make a dime on the road but that's their life and they must suffer the consequences while on the road each week. Its much harder for those who participate in the timed events because that means of hauling a horse or two every where they go, and gets pretty costly pulling a trailer with two horses. Getting to the National Finals is tough enough let alone traveling all around all summer long. Thecowboys are responsible for their own entry fees and travel expense week after week. But if they are interested in the sport expense don't mean a thing as long as they get there on time. Expenses do pile up in a hurry with everything that is needed every week end. It costs the cowboys and cowgirls a pretty penny each year. It's tough on the rough stock competitor as well because of the bumps and bruises they receive each time they climb over those chute gates. Like they say, "It's not a question of if you'll get hurt, but it's the question of when and how much. Guys even break bones competing in the rodeos. With the smell of lineament and Absorbine Jr. getting ready for the next ride. Rodeo is one of the most popular sports in the country today and one of the roughest in the country too. For several years the Nationals have been held in Albuquerque, N.M., however this year they moved the National Finals to Rapid City, S.D. With the Stuuon Rodeo Stock Contractors providing the stock at this years show. The following are the event winners after all the go rounds were completed and the points totaled up.
