The first place winners in each category won belt buckles. Others who placed were awarded cash prizes. The winner of the Sheep Riding event (Mutton Bustin') ages 5-6, was Rolin Morning Owlof Warm Springs, second place was Mary McDonald of Ash wood, Blaine Hurling of Bend placed third, fourth was Elliott Cooper of Warm Springs, Justine Begay of Warm Springs placed fifth while Brittncy Young of Madras was sixth. The Senior Calf Riding for ages 12-13 was won by Joe McNamec of Irrigon, Rickie Mickcl of Redmond was second, Jerod Hosford of Madras placed third as Larry McNamce of Antelope followed. In the Breakaway Roping Rickie Mickel of Redmond was the buckle winner and Dan Mcintosh of Bend was in second place. The were no winners in the Pee Wee Calf Riding, ages 7-8. Goat Tail Tying ages 6-8 was won by Madras resident, Colleen Kingsbury, Sarah McNamee of Irrigon placed second, Sierra Ferguson of Madras was third and Katie Alley of Culver followed. Del vis Heath of Warm Springs won the buckle in the Junior Calf Riding for ages 9-1 1 . Travis Mars ton of Ash wood was second, Levi Mickel of Redmond was third, and Preston Rominick of Madras followed. The PeeWee Horseless Roping was won by Kristina Roofner of Madras, Sierra Ferguson of Madras places second and third place went to Benjamin Cole Begay of Warm Springs. In the Senior Barrel Race for ages 13-14, the winner was Rickie Mickel of Redmond, Katie Christenson of Madras was second and Jcrcd Moses of Warm Springs was third. The Biathlon attracted 23 participants in both individual and team. Men's overall champion was Jeff Benard of Bend, Oregon with a time of 1 :48 :28. Women's overall champion was Sue Reid of Bend, Oregon with a time of 2:26:14. Mens team winners in street bike division were Doug Lorenz, and Mark Chidlaw with a time of 1 :57:23. The women's team street bike division winners were Michelle Groesz, and Jeanette Groesz with a time of 2:11:28. Co-ed team winners in street bike division were Gloria Chopito and Stan Kneeland with a time of 2:28:45. The co-ed winners in mountain bike division were Cary Pederson, and Jerry Hendrickson with a time 3:00:21. ' . Eight members of the Health and Wellness Center staff joined the American Diabetes Association's Walktoberfest in Bend on October 1 . The purpose of the 8-mile walk was to raise money through pledges. The Warm Springs team raised a total of $6611 The money raised by the Walktoberfest goes toward diabetes care and research, such as the study on diabetic retinopathy conducted by the Oregon Health Sciences University (OHSU). Other projects funded by the money raised from the walk include the Oregon Commission for the Blind program to assist newly blinded people learn adaptive diabetes management skills, and the St. Charles Medical Center's program to provide community education about diabetes. It was a beautiful walk with a great purpose! A big thanks to the staff members who participated: Karen, Erica Foster, Susan Mathew, Candace Reich, Sara Thomas, Coleen Greene, Joy Harvey and Onte Lumpmouth. George Wilson Memorial Run. November 26, at the Madras High School, Madras, Oregon. A lOKRun, 10K Walk, and 2 mile Fun Run starting at 10:30 a.m. A new course, flat, scenic, call 475-6818 for Information. Jingle Bell Run. December 3 at the Brandls Square, Downtown Bend, Oregon. A 5K, a 1 mile run walk, and a 200 yard kids run all beginning at 11:45 a.m. Will be taking Arthritis pledges and there will be a Christmas parade. The Dam Run 1995. January 29, at the Crook County High School Track, Prineville, Oregon. Events Include: a 30K. 10K, and 2 mile runs, 3 mile and 10K walks starting at 10:30 a.m. Course is scenic, rolling and flat. Cougars hosting preseason tourney The Warm Springs Nation Cougars will be hosting the 3rd annual "Pre-Season" boy's 12 years and under and co-ed 12 & under youth basketball tournament Tournament will be held at the Warm Springs Community Center, November 11 13, 1994. The first 1 1 boys teams and first 8 co-ed teams to pay the fee of $100 will be entered in the tournament. Deadline is Monday, November 7.
