Keepers conference to be
held at Kah-Nee-Ta May 1-4
Many individuals in Warm
Springs are gearing up for the
upcoming annual Keepers of the
Treasures conference that will be held
during the first part of May at Kah-Nee-Ta.
The Keepers of the Treasures 1 994
annual conference will be held at
Kah-Nee-Ta May 1-4, 1994. The
theme of this year's conference is
"Repatriation: The Implications and
Implementation of the Native
American Graves Protection and
Repatriation Act".
Registration for the conference
includes a reception and tour of the
Museum at Warm Springs, a
traditional dinner hosted by the
Confederated Tribes and two
luncheons. Transportation from the
airports (Portland or Redmond) can
be proved for an additional $10.
Membership dues are $10 per year.
On-site registration is $175.

On November23, 1988, Congress
passed Public Law 100-713. This
allows Warm Springs Health &
Wellness Center to bill private health
insurance companies for outpatient
services provided to Indian patients
who received medical or dental care
in IHS or Tribal facilities. Under this
program IHS and Tribal facilities are
authorized and obligated to bill health
insurance carriers (like Blue Cross
Blue Shield or MailHandlers) cost of
medical care furnished to patients
who are covered by insurance
policies. An exception to this law for
Warm Springs Health and Wellness
Center is we do not bill the
Confederated Tribes of Warm
Springs Tribal Insurance Program.
Warm Springs Health and Wellness
Center (WSH&C) must comply with
this law and we need your help to
make this program successful.

register at the Business office to see
a provider in the clinic. Under the
law, we are required to determine if
the government's cost of your health
care can be recovered from companies
providing group and individual health
insurance.
If we bill your insurance company
for services you have received at
Warm Springs Health and Wellness
Center, it will not cost you any money.
Your insurance premium will not
increase because of this billing.
Any co-payment or deductibles
will be covered by Warm Springs
Health & Wellness Center for all
direct care or by the tribal Managed
Care (formerly Contract Health
Service) for authorized off-site care
(referrals) depending on their funding
from the Federal Government

insurance company for care received
at Warm Springs Health & Wellness
Center will save you money by
making it easier for you to meet your
deductible.
What do I do if the Insurance Company
sends the payment directly to me?
If the check has been mailed
directly to you as the subscriber, you
need to mail or bring the check in to
the Warm Springs Health & Wellness
Center as soon as possible. Warm
Springs Health & Wellness Center
will also need the Explanation of
Benefits (EOB) to credit the billing
claim. The Explanation of Benefits
will be attached to the check or will
be enclosed with the check.

will assist you by calling the insurance
company or by completing the
questionnaire.
Insurance Information Required:
We must have the information that
appears on your health insurance
identification card; the name of your
insurance company, their address and
telephone number, family members
covered and effective date. If you
should change insurance companies,
we require the termination date of
that particular policy. If your
dependents are no longer covered on
your insurance policy, tell us as soon
as possible.
We will make a copy of the
insurance card and enter the data in
our registration system. You will be
asked to sign an Assignment of
Benefits which allows the insurance
company to mail the check directly
to us. This also allows us to provide
the insurance company with
additional information about your
visit if they require it
You will not be billed by Warm
Springs Health & Wellness Center or
your insurance company.
The obligation to pay medical care
costs applies only to the insurance
carrier. You will not be sent a bill for
amounts not covered by the insurance
company. Warm Springs Health &
Wellness Center is entitled to receive
the same benefits for its health care
services any other medical care
provider would receive. Monies
collected under this program go
directly to Warm Springs Health &
Wellness Center to provide enhanced
heal th care services to you, the patient.
You will not be billed for any
uncollected charges. For more

upcoming Museum show
The Changing Exhibit Gallery at
The Museum at Warm Springs will
host the first Community Children's
Art Show from May 14 through June
10. The show will feature the works
of Warm Springs community artists,
from pre-school through high school
age and, like the Tribal Member Art
Show, will be an annual event at The
Museum.
Exhibits Coordinator Roxanne
Casey enlisted the help of art
instructors from the Early Childhood
Education Center (ECE), Warm
Springs Elementary, Buff
Elementary, Madras Jr. High School
and Madras High School to encourage
participation in the show. Entries
