In the past it was usually the league champion who represented the league as the No.l seed, and the team who placed second was the other representative. This year there is a play-off with the top four teams with the matching of the No. 1 team to play the No. 4 team. The No. 2 will play No.3, and the two winner will play for the No. 1 spot. To get the play-off underway the Madras White Buffaloes who won the league championship was matched with the Ontario Tigers in first round action, and the Baker City Bulldogs hosted the MaCloughlin Hi, of Milton-Freewater. The Tigers of Ontario came to town for the first match-up hoping to prove they were worthy of going to state, but the White Buffaloes had other ideas which sent the Tigers home to pack their basketball gear away for the season. The White Buffaloes didn't waste any time as they went on the scoring rage leading 23-16, at the end of the first quarter. The Tigers who once beaten the Buffaloes kept the game Buffs bomb Baker for No. 1 seed Baker City Bulldogs who trounced the Mac Hi Pioneers in the first game of the league play-offs by the score of 67-32, came to town trying to get their first win over the Madras White Buffaloes after losing two times dur ing regular season play. The third time is the charm as they say. Baker with heightadvantageand some very good athletes playing for the No. 1 seed from the GOL, were matched up with the league Champions The Madras White Buffaloes, on Mon day night, March 7, 1994. The heighth didn't seem to bother the smaller Madras team as they jumped right out to a 84 first quarter lead. Even though the Baker Bull dogs led by one of the GOL players of the year in Trinity Wheeler, the Buffs kept them in check out scoring the taller opponents to take a 28-19, half time lead. In the third quarter the Buffaloes really took charge and ran up the score more on the visiting Bulldogs of Baker. The Buffs out scored them 22-12, to bring the score to 42-31 at the end of three quarters. In the final quarter the teams battled quite evenly KG Ring Co player of the year in GOL The Greater Oregon League announces its All-Starlist for this years basketball team and Madras places two on the team.
