Hi,
Pendleton
The Pendleton team the Oregon
Athletics ha ve won the Warm Springs
Holiday Invitational Basketball
tournament for the third time in a
row. Some folks say we should keep
up with the Jones's. Well, it would be
hard to keep up with the Jones broth
ers during basketball tournament
time, Brooker Jones was voted MVP
and All-Star, while Brother Buck
Jones was among the All-Star se
lection for this years tournament
The tournament turned out to be
real competitive despite a couple of
teams didn'tshow up for the tourney.
To round out the brackets a couple of
scrub teams filled in, and probably it
should have just been a bye and win
for the team who showed up.
The championship game was a
tussel right down to the final minute
of play, and the game could have
gone either way as the Swinomish
team were out to claim this years
title, but the determined Pendleton
team held on to win the title once
again, the third time in three years.
The game for third place was a
close game all the way but the team
from Portland by the name of Or
egon Travelers came out the winners
over a scrappy Running Renegades
of Lapwai, Idaho. Portland jumped
out to a early lead by the score of 34
22, after one quarter of play, with the
scoring efforts of Doug Malatare, as
he poured in 17 points in the first
quarter. Littlefoot Ellenwood kept

White Buffaloes take consolation honors
During the Christmas break the
Madras White Buffaloes win the
consolation and a selection to the
tournament first team All-Star team.
K C Ring was selected to the tour
nament all star team while the team
battled back to win the consolation
title at the tournament in Seaside.

wise made their long shots pay off as
they hit the three pointers consistently
to put them out front early in the
game.
The Bruins of Brookings Harbor
have some players who towerd over
the Buffs as they at 6.4 or better
made it impossible for the Buffs to
get anything from inside as they
would like to, so they employed
their long bombs from the pnmeter

scoring of 8 points. But as the inter
mission came around Portland led by
the score of 6044.
In the third quarter Lapwai made
a run at Portland out scoring them
24-19, but that wasn't enough to
overtake the big lead set by the Port
land team. Portland went on to out
score Lapwai in the final quarter 27
20, and take a 102-92, win over the
Renegades of Lapwai for third place.
Doug Malatare scored a total of 39
points in the came for the Portland
team, while Littlefoot Ellenwood
scored 19 for the losers.
In the game for all the trinkets and
hardware the Pendleton team jumped
out to an early lead of 29-24, after
one quarter by the scoring from
Brooker Jones, and Marlin Fryberg
who both turned in 8 points apiece.
Ken Pemberton kept Swinomish in
striking distance from his scoring as
he burned the nets for 1 1 points to
end the first frame. After the first
quarter Swinomish came storming
back to take the lead away form
Pendleton at the halftime by the score
of 57-54. Although with a disadvan
tage in height wise the pesky
Pendleton team kept pace with the
bigger guys to out score them and to
regain the lead after three quarters
87-86. The final period went right
down the the wire where Swinnomish
shots wouldn't fall through and
