Following local teams recognized
at The Burns Holiday Tournament
When the 1994-95. sports season
roll around there will be a lot of
changes because of the rapid increase
in population around the state.
At a Oregon School Activities
Association (OSAA), meeting just
recently there was a new league added
to the 4-A class schools in the state
and will be known as the Willamette
Valley league, which will include
schools as Forest Grove,
McMinnvillc and Ncwbcrg from the
Metro league and Canby and Taulalin
from the Three River league, with
the addition of Dallas, and Silverton
who will be moving up from the 3-A
ranks.
The Madras White Buffalos will
join thcTri-Vallcy league along with
Wilsonvillc a new school and Port
land Christian who is moving up
from the 2-A ranks. Tri-Valley will
be losing Hood River Valley Eagles
who will be moving to the 4-A ranks
and will be joining the Mt. Hood
league. Tri-Valley will also lose

COWAPA league.

volved in the shake-up arc Sisters

were the Black Hawks who placed
2nd and following All Stars arc Kyle
Wyatt and Matt Edgcman. Coach is
Sam Kentura. For the girls competi
tion at the Bums Holiday Tourna
ment the Lady Vols, coached by Ron
and Lilly Suppah, received 2nd place
with Amy Suppah receiving All Star , , i ii
andTaralceSuppahearningtheMos: AthletlC SChOldrShlpS Bte QVailBule
Valuable Player and All Star. Con- '
gratulations.
Salem area, and LaPine will remain
in the Sky-Em league located around
the Eugene, Or are.
Travel time was one of the key
factors for the Buffs as their longest
trip in the Tri-Valley league will be
closer than the shortest trip in the
COL. This will also benefit the
schools from the far eastern part of
the state like Ontario, Baker, Mac Hi
and the rest of the teams in the GOL
as far as that goes as they won't have
to travel to Madras to play games. Of
course everyone is never satisfied on
any situation but the key is for the
best interest of all schools is at stake,
especially for budget purposes. The
realignment will be as follows:
Metro League : will add,
Wcstview, a new school and they

Madras Buffaloes open basketball
season with Invitational Friday night
Over 100,000 collegiate athletic
scholarships arc available each year
to male and female high school and
junior college student athletes. Con
trary to popular belief, students don't
have to be all state to qualify. Much
of this money goes unused. A new
publication with forms, sample let
ters and tables of factual information
is available for student athletes. It
takes them step by step through the
important process of getting an ath
letic scholarshipand includes college
and conference listings.
For information on how to get a
collegiate athletic scholarship, send
a 10 self addressed, stamped enve
lope to the National Sports Founda
tion, 61 1 A Willow Drive, P.O. Box
940, Oakhurst,NJ 07755.
On Friday night the Madras White
Buffalos basketball team will make
their 93-94, appearance as they take
on the Crook County Cowboys, in
the nightcap of the Central Oregon
basketball tourney.
; To kick'off the tournament Hood
-River Valley Eagles will face the
Henley Hornets, in the first game of
the night. On Saturday night the win
ners will play for the championship.
The Buffs with two returning
regulars from last year is Ben
Christensen and K.C. Ring, along
with others who saw some action last
year were Jake Suppah, John Boyle
and Phillip Miller. There is no real
height on this years team so they will
use different stratagies to fit their
needs.
Crook County a 4-A class school
and Hood River Valley who will be
stepping into the 4-A class next sea
son are always tough contenders, but
anyone can't count out the Henley
Hornets as they are always competi
tive in the sports field. The Madras
White Buffaloes are just as much a
threat though as anyone else.

and Robert Allen. Front row: Darylynne Scott, Val Suppah, Sasha Smith,
