Madras High School White Buffalo team members practice basics as football season begins.
White Buffaloes lose first home game to Gladstone
The White Buffaloes fade in the
second half of the opener ot uieir
first home game and drop a 10-0,
game to a tough Gladstone Gladiator
team Friday night, September 10,
1993.
. Madras won the toss and elected
to receive to start the game. After
three downs the Buffs couldn't get
any where and had to punt the ball
away. Gladstone managed to move
he ball pretty well picking up a couple
oT first downs. Penalties took their
toll as the Gladiators were guilty of
illegal motion and also a holding
penalty which set them back and the
$uffs held to force them to punt.
.,. The Buffs moved the ball pretty
well and it looked like something
was going to happen as Isaac Esquiro
broke loose for a couple of long gain
ers. But the closer they got to the end
?pne the tougher the Gladiator de
fense became. It was a sce-saw affair
around the mid-field between the two
teams throughout the first half. The
Buffs came close enough to try a
field goal but it fell short. The first
half wound down and the teams took
the intermission scoreless.
The Gladiators took the opening
kick-off for the second half, but in
the ihirrt ni''' ih- wop f-
tounn and tour when the Gladiators
tried for about a 32 yard field goal
which was good as Gatto put the toe
to the ball and it split the up-rights for
three points giving them a 3-0, lead.
The third Quarter ended .
two teams battled toe to toe in
the fourth quarter and at one point it
looked as though the Buffs were
going to make something happen as
they started to move the ball pretty ;
well, but a swing pass from Quarter
back Miller to Esquiro was picked'

First home football game for the Madras White Buffaloes against Gladstone
provided fast-paced action.
Schurz, Nevada rodeo this weekend
off by Gladstones Hcflcy and he
scampered into the end-zone un
touched for the score to put the
Gladiators up 10-0,aftcrGattokickcd
the extra point. That TD sort of took
the wind out of the sails for the Buf
faloes. There was one bright spot
when all the fans were cheering on a
67 yard pass that went all the way to
pay-dirt only to be called back on a
holding penalty.
The rest of the game was a battle
in the mid field and the game ended
with the Gladiators winning 10-0.
The next outing for the Buffalo's
will be on the road as they travel to
meet Arch rival Crook County
Cowboys on their home filed Friday
night September 19. The Cowboys
are winlcss to this point as they lost
their first game to Phoenix, of souther
Oregon by the score of 34-13. So
both teams will be out for their first
win of the season.
