White Buffaloes lose first home game to Gladstone The White Buffaloes fade in the second half of the opener ot uieir first home game and drop a 10-0, game to a tough Gladstone Gladiator team Friday night, September 10, 1993. . Madras won the toss and elected to receive to start the game. After three downs the Buffs couldn't get any where and had to punt the ball away. Gladstone managed to move he ball pretty well picking up a couple oT first downs. Penalties took their toll as the Gladiators were guilty of illegal motion and also a holding penalty which set them back and the $uffs held to force them to punt. .,. The Buffs moved the ball pretty well and it looked like something was going to happen as Isaac Esquiro broke loose for a couple of long gain ers. But the closer they got to the end ?pne the tougher the Gladiator de fense became. It was a sce-saw affair around the mid-field between the two teams throughout the first half. The Buffs came close enough to try a field goal but it fell short. The first half wound down and the teams took the intermission scoreless. The Gladiators took the opening kick-off for the second half, but in the ihirrt ni''' ih- wop f- tounn and tour when the Gladiators tried for about a 32 yard field goal which was good as Gatto put the toe to the ball and it split the up-rights for three points giving them a 3-0, lead. ' , . i - ; : ... First home football game for the Madras White Buffaloes against Gladstone provided fast-paced action. Schurz, Nevada rodeo this weekend off by Gladstones Hcflcy and he scampered into the end-zone un touched for the score to put the Gladiators up 10-0,aftcrGattokickcd the extra point. That TD sort of took the wind out of the sails for the Buf faloes. There was one bright spot when all the fans were cheering on a 67 yard pass that went all the way to pay-dirt only to be called back on a holding penalty. The rest of the game was a battle in the mid field and the game ended with the Gladiators winning 10-0. The next outing for the Buffalo's will be on the road as they travel to meet Arch rival Crook County Cowboys on their home filed Friday night September 19. The Cowboys are winlcss to this point as they lost their first game to Phoenix, of souther Oregon by the score of 34-13. So both teams will be out for their first win of the season. St. Pat's coming Registration is now open for St. Pat's Cowdco to be held October 16 & 17 at the Jefferson County Fair grounds in Madras. Kids ages 6-14 are eligible. Three-on-three tourney set for October The Quilctte 3-on-3 Drug and Alcohol Free Basketball Tournament is scheduled to be held October 2 & 3, 1993 at La Push Gymnasium. Tournament will start promptly at 10:00 a.m. on October 2nd. There will be three age divisions: 9-12; 13 18; and 19 and up. All entry forms and all entry fees must be turned in by 9:00 a.m. on October 2nd to make basketball schedule. Entry fee is $5.00 per player, 3 or 4 players per team. Rules of the tourney are: 1.) Double elimination; 2.) Street ball, call your own foul. First team to score 20 points must win by four. Prizes for first place is a trophy and gold medals. Prizes for second place is a Plaque and silver medals. Third place will receive bronze med als. A Sportsmanship Trophy will also be given away. Cash prizes will be dependent on the number of en tries. $200 will be added. Twelve basketballs autographed by Slick Watts will be given away. The 1993 champions were Yurok Construction of Warm Springs with runner-up being Wild thing also of Warm Springs. Third was awarded toEagleSpiritsofPendlcton.Oregon, while fourth place went to Mucklcshoot, Washington. Tiger's team of Warm Springs was fifth and the Animals also of Warm Springs placed sixth. The all-stars were: Yurok; Dean Adams and Deanie Smith. Wild thing; Willie Stacona and Denys White. Eagle Spirits; Tanner and Paula. Mucklcshoot; Bear and Flo. Tiger's Team; Willie Trimble and Libby Chase. And the Animals; Alex Tufti and Natalia. The Most Valuable Player award was given to Tom Adams and Tobi Smith.
