International Dance Festival, held May 22 at Madras Junior High School,
brought cultures together with traditional dance demonstrations.

Pi-Ume-Sha set for June 25, 26,
27 in honor of Treaty of 1855
The 24th Annual Pi-Umc-Sha
Treaty Days is June 25, 26, 27, 1993,
in the Recreation area behind the
Community Center, Warm Springs,
Oregon. In celebration of the Warm
Springs Nation's Treaty of 1 855, June
25, 1855. Featuring Nathan "Eight
Ball" Jim, M.C.
An estimate of $8,000 in prize
money is to be awarded to individual
and team champions. An estimate of
$4,000 in drummers pay. Local and
visiting drumspaid after each session.
Drummers are asked to bring their
own chairs.
In addition to dance contests other
events will take place throughout the
weekend.
Indian stick games start Friday.
Stick Came Tournament starts Sat-'
urday. No dice or card games.
The annual Men s and Women s

Spirituality workshop scheduled
A community information work
shop, led by Dr. Terry Tafoya, will
be held at the Agency Longhouse
Thursday, June 10 from 6:30 to 8:30
p.m. The theme is "Spirituality in
Guiding Our Children: Harmony,
Respect, Honor". A light dinner will
precede the workshop.
Trained as a Native American
storyteller, Dr. Tafoya is a Taos
PuebloWarm Springs Indian who
works on an international level as a
consulting psychologist in the area
of Systemic Family Therapy, cross
cultural issues of mental health and
sexuality, HIVAIDS, substance
abuse and bilingual education. He
serves on the National Teaching
Faculty for the American Psycho
logical Association and is a national
consultant for the U.S. office of
Substance Abuse Prevention.
Over the past two decades of uni
versity teaching and consulting. Dr.
Tafoya has incorporated Native
American concepts of traditional
healing into his work with families
and agencies.
His publications include: "Coyote
in the Classroom: Oral Tradition for
Classroom Use", "Pulling Coyote's
Tale: Native American Sexuality and
AIDS", "Circles and Cedar: Native
Americans and Family Therapy" and
"Coyote's Eyes: Native Cognition
Styles".
The workshop is sponsored by
Warm Springs Early Childhood
Education. Child care can be pro

soring a Mini-Workshop scheduled
for June 14-15, 1993 from 8:30 a.m.
to 1:00 p.m. in the 4-H room of the
Education Center. During the two
morning workshops we are offering
information on Vehicle Maintenance;
cost of owning a car, truck or van; 3
minute meals; 4 stews; freezing
leftovers; budgeting, food shopping
and comparison shopping. All par
ticipants will sample the 3 minute
meals and the stews.
