"SpitlM Spealts" Events set for May 22 at OSU Slanderous rumors dispelled f m t ' To the Editor, individual that the rumor is dirc fEDirol In the sports section of the Or cgonian just recently a couple of basketball players were fined for causing a Ruckus on the court. The fines were $12,000.00, and $10,000.00. Of course the one with the biggest fine has been in a situation like this before and is known for dirty tactics while playing the game. These arc professional athletes and should have self discipline and serve as role models to all the youth across the country. Bas ketball known as a non-contact, hands-off sport is getting pretty rough now day's. In the olden days it used to be clean and every thing seemed to be under control. As time passes things change and there's all kinds of pushing, holding and everything imaginable taking place and all the athletes arc at each others throats. Yep! Its getting worse and worse. Soon all the basketball players will need uniforms like Hockey players, all padded and face guards. One of the biggest instigators to the whole problems and is never mentioned in any of the scuffles, or fined for letting things get out of hand is the game officials. Things happen right in front of them, they see it, but turn their backs on the incident, and each time this goes on it gets a little worse until a fight starts. If a player complains to the rcf, he gets a big "T". It appears some officials have a grudge against certain teams or players and call all kinds of fouls on them while the other side get away with a lot. Just because they wear the black an white stripes doesn't make them the almighty. There are some players who get away with the whole shabang, fouling holding, pushing right in front of the officials and just because they are Barklcy or Jordan, or some other hotshot they think they can get away with everything and when there is a foul called on them they act like the world in coming to an end like if there is no fouls supposd to be called on them. This is where a lot of the trouble starts from a little shove and it gets worse each time it happens. Of course if you are the guy that favors the same team as the officials then it doesn't bother. Well all these things I write can be challanged if there is a disagreement, and if there is it's pleasing to know people read these things. I'm not always right or wrong, just opinions of things, for people to think about. Now that the warm weather is, here? or coming? Well take your pick because some day's its just fine out of doors, just nice and warm to where you couldn't ask for a better day. But when plans are made to do things outside it never fails. There is an overcast, and it gets windy, just ruins all the fun things that were planned. This happens, especially on the weekends when the whole gang plans outings and the weather never cooperates. If a person goes out fishing on days like this usually all he catches is a cold. : Almost all of the outdoor activities are always spoiled because of the weather. Baseball games, softball, rodeos, fishing trips and pic nics, makes a person wonder, "Where did I go wrong to deserve this kind of weather?"And when there are no kinds of plans made and a person plans to stay home and get glued to the tube, the weather couldn't be any better. Even now to go out to dig roots it would get pretty windy and cold. "Umm-mm-Chi! and on Monday morning another time it never fails , when its time to go to work and you wake up' look out the window, there isn't a cloud in the sky, no breeze of any kind, "Shucks," we have to work today. Maybe we should have our wbekends on Sunday and Monday, "Well, "If we did that then Saturday would probably be the perfect day. I guess we just can't win them all and live with it like or not. "An unverified or unfounded report, story, etc., circulated from person to person. 2. Common gossip; hearsay, to tell or spread as a rumor, noise about." We live in a small community and rumors are part of our everyday lives." Just about everywhere we go, to work, to the store, post office, and restaurant, wc gossip with friends, family and other community mem bers. The problem with rumors arc that, in just about every case, they are not true, and accusations are made to individuals of something that would be hurtful to them in different ways. Some people start rumors just for the purpose of hurting that particular Happy 10th Birthday -May 5. 1983 To Our Baby Love, Mom & Dad. Crespln. & Julie Sandoval Let's continue teachings 'IT - ' i ' flu" km t. w. t To the Editor, I am writing this in concern to our elders who put their lives on the line in our behalf. Cathlas and Tillas and Pooshas and Ullas, we love you all very much! ! They arc our gateway to our past. They carry the stories of our ances tors whom taught them to respect all ways, all people, all religions, all denominations. They also passed on teachings of many religions, that will come and they would be good ones and bad ones. They taught us right from wrong. This is only natural for us as people to know already, right from wrong and what's good and bad. A lot of times, they say we carry our mothers' or grandmothers' teachings with us. We carry them in ourselves, we arc of our own blood. So, when you go places, you must carry yourself in a good way because you arc of your own family. We have our longhouscs and they arc all of the same teachings, wc are always told you can't change nothing. You must keep it the same. With this, I want my Cathla to know I love her much! To all my Cathlas and Tillas I love you all, for all the teachings of our longhousc ways, may you continue to teach us. To my Tilla, who passed on years ago, for all his love for his people, children for sharing his teaching to us. May we continue to hand it down to our children. With all my love to my people, Lisa Wallulatum Remember how cute you USED to be? Happy 21st B-day Mackie! Love, Mom, Dad, Win, Atcitty and Fawn The Post Office lobby will be closed all day Memorial Day (5-31-93) all day so that the floors can be stripped. No one will be allowed to enter. V ' Vs individual that the rumor is directed to. Under the law this can be called SLANDER and could be litigated in court as criminal andor civil. Wc will probably never stop be ing part of a rumor, but wc can try and remember not to consider it as true until proven, and not continue to spread it around. In writing this letter to my com munity, it is my hope to dispel rumors that many or you ha vc probably heard. I do not use illegal drugs. I do not sell illegal drugs. Suppah Hello, I just thought and wanted to share with you all that there really is an upper higher very mysterious power up above us, I now have an apt. of my own in the wet quacker backer city in Eugene, Oregon. It may be hard to keep a place of your own clean at times, but is very rewarding in the end. It's been pouring down a lot of rain lately where I now stay, other than that it's very cool, all the way over this way in the eastern part of Oregon. The name of the apt. I now stay in is called the Uhlhom apt. and that is pronounced like "you'll horn." Pretty awesome huh? I'm very grateful that I now can walk with an assistance of a tuekush, an I now can go out and catch and ride the downtown bus to take me wherever I'd like to go to. It's very nice to have a place of my own now. Life is worth the living Baby-sitter needed Wanted! Reliable baby-sitter for one month old baby girl.
