Northwest Roadrunners top Blackwolf in Suicide Prevention Tourney last weekend
The 4th Annual Suicide Preven
tion Black wolf 6 Foot & Under Plus
1 Basketball Tournament was held at
the Warm Springs Community Center
April 9, 10 and 1 1, 1993 in memory
of Lil Chief Squally. The NW Road
runners were the 1993 champions,
they defeated Blackwolf 101-96.
Third place went to Courthouse
Athletics of Salem, Oregon. Quinault
was awarded fourth place and the
; Madras Legends received fifth place.
- And sixth place went to the Nisqually
Lobos of Nisqually, Washington.

Lindsay Sandbergs 15 over-par
87 gave her a 14 stroke victory, and
she was the only player to break 100
as the Madras White Bffaloes de
feated The Dalles Indians 411422,
in a match held at the Nine Peaks
Coif Course, in Madras on Tuesday.
' Sandberg did a great job leading
the Buffs to victory to defeat The
Dalles as the two teams were right in
there down to the wire but the Buffs
were just a little too much for the
visitors. Others for the Buff team
were Erika Harris at 107, Stephanie
Harris 115, Kristen Sundberg 102
and Nikole McConnell 119.
The Shoshone-Bannock All In
dian High School Basketball Tour
nament is scheduled to be held April
29-May 1, 1993 in Fort Hall, Idaho.
Sponsored by Chiefs Enterprises, a
Sho-Ban School Applied Economics
Co.
There will 24 teams participating,
12 girls teams and 12 boys teams.
Entry fee is $ 1 00 - no personal checks.
Deadline for entries is April 23.
Players will be required to submit
proof of tribal enrollment & verifica
tion of enrollment in high school.
First through third place teams
will receive trophies; first place team
will also receive jackets; second place
team sweatshirts; third place team T
shirts; and All Stars will receive
sweatshirts.

More than 35 contestants partici
pated in the first annual Spring Bench
Press competition held March 30.
Winning was Harry Hintsala fol
lowed by Joey Ortiz, Willie Sahme,
Vernon Smith, Sr., Esmade Made
and Mackie Bcgay. Leah LeClaire
and Mary Ross won the women's
competition.
Vernon Tias won the Hot Shot
Competition, followed by Ferman
Tufti, Gary Sampson and Lester
White. The heaviest lift was per
formed by Ortiz, who lifted 285 lbs.

The 6th annual Warriors Chal
lenge was held at the Warm Springs
Community Center March 26-28,
1993. The champions of the tourna
ment were the Redmond Panthers,
they received pullovers and a plaque.
The runner ups were the Chiloquin
Supcrsonics, and they were awarded
T-shirts and a plaque. Third place
went to Ncah Bay, Washington and
they were given T-shirts and a plaque.
Jefferson County Gunners were
awarded T-shirts and a plaque for
fourth place.
The sportsmanship award went to
Bonanza, Oregon and they received
T-shirts and a plaque. The Inspira
tional Coach was Steve Watah of the
Chiloquin Supcrsonics and he was
awarded a sweatshirt The Defensive
Player was Jason Merck of the
Redmond Panthers, he received a
sweatshirt also.
The all-stars for the weekend re
ceived pull overs and they were; Jazz
Agquirre of Ncah Bay, Jeromy Palki
of Yoncalla, Shane Henry of Macy's,
Chct VanPelt of the Warriors, Chuck
Ellis of Bonanza, Jason Thomas of
Da Bulls, Lamar Jackson of Tecney's,
John Boyle of J.C. Gunners, Steven
Littlcjohn of Chiloquin, Tyson Pratt
of Redmond. Atta-Boys received a
T-shirt, they were; Mike Johnston of

"March" ends
The four-week "March to
Mazatlan" aerobic contest, offered
by the Warm Springs Community
Center and sponsored in part by A via,
was won by Renee Silversmith. She
attended the most classes during the
four-week period and was awarded
shoes for her diligence.
Winning A via bags in the drawing
were Iris Smith and Elina Langnese.
Winning Avia shoes in the drawing
were Shilo Shaw and Carol
Howlingwater.

1993 Champs of N.I A A. 6 Ft. & Under- Lapwai , Idaho
The N.I.A.A. 6 foot and under
basketball tournament was held
March 31 thru April 3, 1993. The
tourney consisted of 18 teams total
and they played both at the Warm
Springs Community Center gym and
the Madras High School Gym. It was
sanctioned by the National Indian
Activities Association and sponsored
by the Warm Springs Athletic As
sociation. Lapwai, Idaho was the champions
for 1993 as they defeated the Yakima
Bucks of Washington. Goldendale,
Washington took third place as they
defeated Colville Tribe of Omak,
Washington to put them to the fifth
place spot. Host team, the Warm
Springs Magpies placed fourth as
they defeated the Northwest Road
runners of Simnasho, Oregon. The
Roadrunners received the sixth place
award..
The tournament all-stars were
James Scott of the Log Springs,
"Slicks", Jayson Ray of Chiloquin,
Oregon, Ben Marchand, Jr. of Omak,
Washington, Andy Leonard of the
Warm Springs Magpies, Mike Patton
of Goldendale, Washington, Jim
Waubaunsee of the Yakima Bucks,
Littlefoot Ellenwood of Lapwai,
Idaho, Glenn Jones of Goldendale,
Washington, Shannon Wright of the
Warm Springs Magpies, Johnny Lay
of the Yakima Bucks, Bobby Sabotta

The sportsmanship team was
Phoenix Renegades of Phoenix, Ari
zona. Mr. Hustle went to Kevin Preist
of Omak, Washington. And the Most
Valuable Player was Josh Leighton
of Lapwai, Idaho.
Tournament director Austin
Greene stated his appreciation of
support, "I would like to thank all the
volunteers that assisted with the
event, and K.W.S.O. sports coordi
nator, Kenman Miller, and his crew
for doing a fine job in their broadcast
of the Championship game."
