' A 4 1 A i t Madras wins big over Ontario After on impressive win over the highly rated Ontario Tiger team on Friday night, January 29, 1993, the Buffs traveled to Mac I ii and dropped a game there to the Pioneers, Satur day night. On Friday night the Buf faloes ran rough shod over the Ontario Tigers pounding out a 78-56 con vincing win behind the sharp shoot ing of Lcif Suppah's 25 points for the night before he fouled out in the final quarter. Suppah's efforts were not only in scoring but on defense and under the backboards as he pulled down more than his share of re bounds. It was an outstanding night for the senior guard who played a great game. The Buffs got the jump on the Tigers and never gave tlicm a chance to regroup. Ontario is always a strong team and can beat almost any team around. The Madras White Buffaloes led through the game as the Ontario Ti gers were able to close the gap to a few points just once but the deter mined Buffs pulled away. At the end of the first quarter the score was 9 16, for the Buffs and they went into the intermission holding a com manding lead of 37-22. It was just a tremendous team effort throughout the game. In the third quarter the Tigers out scored the Buffs 19-16, but the Buffs maintained the large lead leading 53-4 1. In the final quar ter it was all a Buff game as they swished the nets for 25 points to 1 5 for the Tigers to make the final score 78-56, and a big win for the Buffs. The Tigers made a game effort to keep pxe with the Buffs behind the scoring of Barmctt and Easterly who had 19 and 17 points respectively, Johnson 6, and Johnston 4, Wilson 3, Edwards 3.T. Grimm 2, B. Grimm 2, Holton, Snyder. This ran the Buffs record to 4 wins 0 losses in league play by defeating the Tigers who were also on a win ning streak. Warm Springs Cougars host first annual The Warm Springs Nation "Cou gars" held their first annual boy's 12 years and younger basketball tourna ment on January 29, 30 & 3 1 , 1993 at the Warm Springs Community Cen ter. This tournament drew 14 teams from throughout Oregon, and Washington, as well as the local talents. The following are the results of the three day tournament: Cham pions: We B.A.A.A.D., Simnasho, Oregon , Runner-ups: Black Hawks, Warm Springs, Oregon, 3rd Place: Prineville Pistols, Prineville, Oregon, 4th Place: Eagle Point, Oregon. The Most Valuable Player award went to Matt Edgmon of Black Hawks. Mr. Hustle was awarded to Bryson Bronson of Pendleton. Team Sportsmanship was awarded to Chiloquin Lil' Bucks of Chiloquin, Oregon. t)I ; V 4 . Other teams participating were Yakima Bald Eagles of Toppcnish, Washington, Black Hawks II of W.S ., Macy's of W.S., Lil' Warriors of W.S., Burns Hoosier's of Bums, Oregon and the Warm Springs Cou gars. The committee would like to thank all those that have participated, were spectators, or who volunteered and assisted with the tournament. With the success of the 1st annual tourna ment, it is a certainty that this will become a tournament for the future players to look forward to, as the planning process will get started for the second annual event for late 1993 or early 1994. Reservation Relay May 8 Kah-Nee-Ta Resort MHS loses to Mac-Hi On Saturday night, January 30, the Buffs traveled to Milton Frcewatcr to take on the Pioneers of Mac Hi and went down in defeat by the score of 57-59. It was a near win even without the services of Lcif Suppah who didn't make the trip. The game a hard fought and close throughout could have gone either way as the Buffs led at the end of one quarter 16-13, but they fell behind at the half time mark 29-33. The game Buffs battled the Pioneers to tie the score at the end of three quarters at 43 each. In the final quarter the Pio neers got one basket more than the Buffs to cap the win with the final score of 59-57. It was a squeaker but the Pioneers were the winners. Leading the Buff scoring attack was Shane Barnes with 17, Scott Delamarter 12, Tom Norton 10, KC Ring 7, Ben Christensen 6, Mark Harris 5, and Spencer Gerke. Brown was te leading scorer for the Pioneers with 15, White 12, Parks 11, Meza 10, Dohrmann 9, Waltermine, Dohrmann. On February 6, 1993 the Buffs travel to Burns to meet the Hilanders who are always tough on their home floor and are highly rated in the GOL. February 12, 13, 14.... Boys Basketball tourney set Boys basketball tournament set for February 12, 13, & 14, 1993. This is for boys 13 years and under. This is the Chinook teams just say no to drugs and alcohol tournament will be held in the Community Center. The entry fee is $125.00 per team. Looking to get 12 teams for the tour nament. Awards will be from first to fifth places, a sportsmanship and all-stars. Also individual awards: MVP, Mr. Hustle, Mr. Defense, Mr. Hoop buster, Mr. Rebound, and tournament "Most Inspirational". The Warm Springs Columbia River Bears "Say yes to education" 13 & Under Girls Basketball Tour nament is scheduled to be held March 5-7, 1993 at the Warm Springs Community Center. Entry fee per team is $125.00. Awards to be presented are: 10 satin championship jackets for first place; 10 hooded sweatshirts for second place; 10 crew neck sweatshirts for third place; lOdoublc necksleeve T-shirts for fourth place; 10 T-shirts for fifth place and sixth place. And for the teams that don't place there will be 60 T-shirts. There will also be: lOsportsmanship double neck sleeve T-shirts; 15 All Stars; I MVP; 1 Ms. Hustle; 1 three pointer, and 1 High Scorer.
