February 5, 1993 PACSK 5 Editorial E Coosh EEWA: (The way it is) Letters to the Editor A J v.- Warm Springs, Oregon v ill" "SblhfM 9 9 9 Toon-ush-ah-soonwita: Just recently a referendum failed be cause of the lack of voter turn out at the polls. The issue at hand was for Cattle and Agriculture loans. With the way things arc today around here, like lack of em ployment this might have been just what some guys needed. A start in the cattle business. Of course its not as simple as it sounds. A person wanting to get started in this business had better well know what he's getting in for. A person should have his goals set. A budget worked out, how much and for how many animals. The payback. A person must have a place to keep his cattle and not let them roam all over. Cattle can't take care of themselves, there is feed to put up. Work with the livestock all year round. It could be a very profitable business if it is worked at in the right way. Today there arc just a hand full of stock owners here who work with thcirstock. While there arc some who have cattle and nevcrhardly take care of them. It's a shame to sec livestock wandering around trying to dig out feed in the snow. Yep! it takes a lot of work to be a stockman. People think they can get into the business with out a real plan. That will never work. In the Olden days the people depended on livestock and they took care of their cattle when the bad weather and snow came. They made sure their stock had plenty of feed. And some stories go that in them days they plowed their fields with horses and never knew what a tractor was. Many even traveled by wagons or horseback. But all winter long their stock had all the feed they needed. It's just like anything else a person has to work at it to be successful. Neigh! Here lately Senator Bob Packwood has really been drug through the coals. It's pathetic the way some people arc acting today, some yelling at him to leave their women's alone! Stupid. All these things happened 20 years ago and today he's about to retire and probably don't have the thoughts he had 20 years ago when he was in his prime. If there is a person who can say he ncvcrlookcd at another women's during his married life, or made, passes or even made remarks toward another women's is a big liar. Take me for instance, I can admit that I did take a teensy weensy peck at other women's in the past. I believe if a person doesn't do this he is not normal. I'm not taking up for Packwood, I'm not against him. I'm just making a point of how people want to get into the news. I hope Packwood gets a chance to question all these women's publicly. Please return bicycles to us To the editor, On January 29, 1993 1 was cook ing at the Longhouse. My son and nephew Harold Blackwolf, Jr. and Louie Van Pelt rode their bikes up to be with me. When they arrived I asked them to get the keys from my purse and lock the bikes in my wagon. Before they could even do that the bikes were already missing. Harold's bike wasn't even 1 week old and both bikes were Christmas presents. I am offering a reward for their return to 1756 Bray, phone 553 1977. No questions will be asked.
