Ml- 11th annual Pi-Ume-Sha run set On Saturday, June 27,at 8:00 a.m., the Warm Springs Reservation Run ncn will be sponsoring the 1 lih an nual Pi-Ume-Sha run. It will begin and end at the Warm Springs Com munity Center Parking Lot in Warm Springs, Oregon. The course will be 2.5 miles and I0K and includes flat stretches with roller coaster hills. Water stations will be located throughout the course. Entry fees: $10 prc-registcr, $12 on race day, no T-shirt and club members $7. Divisions: (MaleFemale) Under 10, 10-14 years, 15-19 vears, 20-24 yean, 25-29 years, 30-34 years, 35 39 years, 40-44 years, 45-49 years, 50-54 years, 55-59 years, 60-ovcr. Overall male and female winners will receive awards. 1 st through 3rd place male and female finishers in each division will receive ribbons. Registration will open at approxi mately 6:45 a.m. on the day of the race and will close at 7:45 a.m. .. Mail-in entries can be sent to Warm Springs Reservation Runners, P.O. All-Indian rodeo to offer 18th year of fast-paced action Madras strongman Ryan Boyle took three firsts at the OSAA 4AI 3 A track meet in Eugene May 30 to help take the boys team to second place. Eight boys and eight girts participated in the meet. The girls team did not place. MHS boys take second at State track meet in Eugene The Madras White Buffalo boys track team placed second at the state meet which was held on the Hay ward Field, on the U of O campus, in Eugene, Oregon. The meet was held in conjunction with the 4-A schools this year. Ryan Boyle was just superb at the state mcetand was the only tri-winner there. He won the 100, the 1 10 high hurdles and the 300 hurdles. He also ran a leg on the relay team. Boy le set a record in the 300 meter hurdles with the time of 39.13 bet tering the time of 39. 1 6, the old meet time. His time in the high hurdles was 14.96, and he wasaclose winner in the 100. The relay team covered the 400 with the time of 44.7 to place sixth. The team members were Mark Har ris, Tim Mcnnealy, John Boyle and Ryan Boyle. Scott Dclamartcr placed 4th in the 800 for points with the time of 1:58.8, to give him fourth place. The girls track team failed to qualify anyone for the finals as competition was just tough at state this year. Kids fishing derby June 27 WSAA hosts slowpitch tournament June 26-28 On Saturday, June 27th from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., the Mt. Hood Na tional Forest, Bear Springs Ranger District will be sponsoring a fishing derby for kids at Frog Lake. There will be free fishing instruction, en vironmental education activities, games, contests, prizes, and fun!!! Refreshments will be provided at lunch time. Frog Lake is located 10 miles east of Government Camp, 1 mile off of Highway 26. Signs on Highway 26 will direct you to Frog Lake. The events will take place in the day use area. Children 13 and under may fish for free, however older individuals must have a valid Oregon fishing license. For more information please call the Bear Springs Ranger District at (503)328-6211. The Warm Springs Athletic As sociation will be hosting their annual Pi-Ume-Sha slowpitch softball tour nament which will be held June 26, 27, and 28 in conjunction with the Pi-Ume-Sha Treaty Days Celebration. The tournament will take place at the Warm Springs Community Center Braves still choppin' away at season (Editors note) These are not the Atlanta Braves, but the Warm Springs Braves little league base ball players and they can do all the chopping they want to. This is an update on the Braves baseball season. The team has con tinued to do real well this season said coach Sam Kentura. At this point their record is 7 wins, 2 losses and 1 tie. The tie coming from the rules of where an inning cannot start after 7:30 p.m. during school nights and the teams were deadlocked at that time. The boys have been pretty consis tent all season long and have had some good games, where all the players have stepped up at one time or another when a hit was needed. The results of the games are: the Braves won against Chiefs, 14-10; beat Culver 16-9; lost to Madras Builders, 12-1 1; won over the War riors, 6-5; tied Pelton Lanes, 9-9; beat the Knights of Columbus 11-6; beat Thrifty Drugs, 154; lost to a much improved Madras Lions team, 13-11. This is the last week of the season which has the Braves playing against Ericksons and the Chiefs. These fi nal two games should be very good games especially the one with the Chiefs which could be for second place in league standings and to the winner of possibly championship if Pelton Lanes should lose this week. Coach Sam Kentura would like to thank all the parents of the Braves team also the fans for showing tre mendous support all season long, also the assistant coach "Mr. Charles Lesarlley," and the umpiring staff, "Corwin," at all the home games. Coach Kentura would like also to congratulate the Chiefs and Warriors on a good season, as all three teams have been near the top of the stand ings all season long. With most of the team returning next year we look to be competitive again, and continue to "Keep Choppin em down in 93." Fields in Warm Springs, Oregon. It will consist of 16 men's teams and 16 women's teams and will be a true double elimination. The entry fee is $200. The awards for first place with be 13 championship windbreakers, second place will be 13 sweatshirts, third through fifth places will be awarded 1 3 T-shirts. Twelve all stars will be given out, a M.V.P. award, best infielder and outfielder awards and sportsmanship. Deadline entry date will be Friday, June 19, 1992. Box 445, Warm Springs, Oregon 97761 The 1 8th Annual Treaty Days All- Indian Rodeo is set for June 27, 28, 1 992, to be held in the Warm Springs Rodeo Association Arena, the daily performances to start at 1:00 p.m. daily. This is a multi-sanctioned show by WSIRA, RMIRA and the AIRCA. There will be the seven major events which include: saddle bronc, bareback, bull riding, steer wrestling, calf roping, team roping (2 loops enter twice), and Sr.. barrel racing. All events one go. There is no limit to any one event, with a $500.00 added purse, and the entry fee is $50.00. Special events are: the breakaway roping; Jr.. barrels (14 and under); calf scramble (10 years and under). The entry fee is $50.00 for the breakaway roping which also has an added $500.00. Jr. barrels 1 go entry fee $30.00, with $100.00, purse added. The award for All-around, is a saddle to the high money winner. Money won in the wildhorse race cannot be included toward the all around title. There will be buckles in all standard events and prizes for the Jr. events. The stock contractor is the Bud Prinz, P-9, rodeo stock from Terrebonne, OR. S tock that has gone to the National finals rodeo in Las Vegas, Nevada. The man behind the mike is that ever popular announcer throughout the northwest Jake Grossmiller, of The Dalles, Oregon. A Vernon "Jughead" Suppah, Open Memorial Wild Horse Race is set with wild horses right off the range here in Warm Springs. This is limited to 32 teams with the entry fee of $200.00 per team and $500.00 added purse. One go round with a finals and the top two teams from each go will vieforthechampionship. Little Bucks in good spot in league "There has been a vast improve ment in the entire Little Bucks team since the start of the season," said coach Lyle Rhoan. He continued, "We lost our first two games because of the lack of practice time." Once they got on schedule and practice sessions, the team has been improv ing right along, added Rhoan. The Little Bucks are nearing the peak and just at the right time of the year. At the present time, their standing is 7 winds, 2 losses, with "ust a few more games left. The boys tave done very well and are a well discipline team. They all work hard together and try not to depend on any one player. The next step for the Major leaguers are the All-Star selection for the Jefferson County team for state action.
