Spectators stood to catch the action during a close 200 race at District
Madras High School senior Ryan Boyle poors on the steam during a high hurdles heat at COL District meet held in Madras May 22 and 23.
Herrera takes All Around title at Tygh Valley
Fair weather greeted Indian cowboys from all parts of the western U.S..
and Canada during the first Western States-sanctioned rodeo for the year,
held at Tygh Valley, Oregon May 16 and 17, 1992.
Fred Herrera of White Swan, Washington was named the All-Around
champion for the 1992 rodeo. The action-packed arena offered some good
scores and fast times throughout the show. The competition was pretty
tough for the cowboys, as all their efforts are pointing toward that final
rodeo of the season: the Nationals held in Albuquerque, New Mexico each
year. The top cowboys from each district participate for the tops honors for
the year. The rodeo cowboy has his work cut out for him as he has to pay his
own way , pay his own entry fee and each dollar earned builds as points for
the right to participate in the final rodeo.
