annual powwow fun
Warm Springs Elcmcnury has
scheduled the end of the year pow
wow a bil differently this year to try
to reduce the crowding and to allow
students more time to dress. Basi
cally, the school divided the lime
into two "mini-powwows".
The Primary Powwow will begin
living up for the grand entry at 12:30
with the grand entry scheduled for
12:45. Studcnu should dress during
their lunch recess lime.. The primary
powwow will end at 2.
The Intermediate powwow will
begin lining up for the Grand Entry at
about 1:43 with the actual grand entry
after the younger students eel dance
out of the arena. The powwow will
conclude about 3:15.
, Parents who have children that
will not be participating in the pow
wow are asked to notify the school so
that othcrarrangemcnts can be made.

Native American Seniors of Ma
dras High School have been featured
in past issues throughout the school
year. The following is three more
seniors that will be graduating Sun
day, May 31, 1992. Spilyay wishes
all of you the best of luck, however
we are sorry that we were unable to
feature all of you.
Warm Springs tribal member,
James E. Moran is eighteen years
old. His parents are Rob and Rosaline
Moran. His grandparents are Amelia
Spino of Warm Springs, and Frank
Gladre of Belcourt, North Dakota.
His brothers are Roy Spino age 22,
Rob Haltsukis age 21, Dan Moran
age 25 and Ed Noyse age 30. His
sisters are Shiela Spino age 25 and
Vonnie Moran age 30 He is 34 Warm
Springs, Wasco, Umatilla and Turtle
Mt. Chippewa.
Moran was involved in Art Club
his sophomore year. He enjoys hunt
ing, partying, dancing, playing
paintball, rapping, traveling and
meeting new and exciting people. He
has participated in football his
freshman, sophomore and senior
years and track his sophomore and
, junior years. Although his favorite
' sport is Ice Hockey, "becau se it has a
lot more contact than any other sport
and gliding on ice is a way better
feeling than running," Moran Stated.
His favorite classes are h;s business
classes with Larry Larson. Special
awards he has achieved include var
sity letters, graduating from Army
Basic Training and 4-H awards.
His outlook of the past school
years he feels, "were very fun, but I
should have gotten better grades than
I did." His feelings about this being
his last year in high school, "I'm
happy it's the last year, now I can go
where I want and not have to worry
about missing school." When asked
what he will miss most about high
school he stated, "the friends I have
made, girls, and some of the classes
I didn't take." His career choice is to
be an officer in the United States
Army, his college choice is to hope
fully go to West Point after improv
ing his grade point average. He com
ments to the remaining lower class,
"Work for a better G.P.A., be your
self and not what you see on T.V.
Build bridges instead of walls around
yourselves." In five to ten years from
now he states, "I'll probably be an
officer in an Airborne Company,
maybe have a wife and a few kids and
a Porsche."

Christopher Jack, is seventeen
years old. His parents are Relda
Kalama Jack and the late Chris Jack,
Sr. of Warm Springs. His grandpar
ents are Evangeline Trimble, the late
Fred Trimble of Warm Springs, the
late Chris and Kathcrine Jack of
Duncan, Brinish Columbia. His
brothers are Cameron age 14, Gabriel
age 12, Fredrick age 9, and GreySun
age 7. He has one sister, Vangie age
16.
Activities he was involved with in
high school include Future Farmers
of America and Future Homcmakers
of America from 1988 through 1990.
His special interests include hunting,
fishing and drawing. He participated
in football his freshman and sopho
more years. Football is his favorite
sport because it is a contact sport. His
favorite class is Agriculture with
Charley Fenleon. Special awards he
has received include a higher
achievement award when he brought
up his grade point average. His out
look of the past school years have
been a learning experience. He feels
excited and glad that this is his last
year in high school. His friends are
what he will miss most about high
school. His career choice is truck
driving, or fish and game. He plans
to attend a vocational school. In five
to ten years from now he sees himself
learning to drive truck.
Fabian Sutterlee, Jr. is seventeen
years old of Warm Springs. His par
ents are June Sutterlee and Reggie
Poorbear. His grandparents are Alice
and James Florendo of Warm
Springs. He has one brother, 24 year
oldScheldon Sutterlee, and three sis
ters, Donna Anstctt age 26, Cheryl
Stinnett age 25,and Dcseree Sutterlee
age 1 1. He is of the Warm Springs,
Wasco descent.
Activities he is involved with in
clude Vocational Industrial Club of
America which he is president His
special interests include weight
training. He participated in football
throughout high school, and seasonal
boxing practice. His favorite sport
was football, "because it is an
adrenaline pumper, and involves
team work and discipline, and keeps
me out of trouble." His favorite
classes are metals with Bob Nelson
and Be Yourself 2 with Bonnie
Souers. Special awards he has re
ceived include second place at a metal
skills contest at COCC in advanced
Foundry. His outlook of the past
school years he states, "could have
used my time more wisely." He feels
good but different about this being
his last year in high school, "it's sort
of scary." His friends are what he
will miss most about high school.
His career choice is studying physi
cal education or psychology to be a
councilor. His college preference is
Chemeketa for one year, then trans
fer to Eastern Oregon in Lagrande.
He comments to the remaining lower
classes, "Take it easy, think about
what you do before you do it ! " In five
to ten years from now he sees himself
taking one step at a time.
