Root Feast Rodeo draws top cowboys It's rodeo season when you hear the voice of Jake Grosmillcr echoing across the country side. Grosmillcr, a popular rodeo announcer through out the northwest, was on hand when the Root Feast rodeo got underway in the Warm Springs rodeo arena on April 4, 1992. This kicking off the 92 rodeo season for most contestants. Contestants from far and near were on hand to try their luck for some of that prize money. Wouldn't you know that the weather was nasty cold ov that weekend as temperatures dipped into the low teens. The rodeo wenton schedule starting out with the ever increasing popular wildhorse race. The colorful event drew 32 teams and when the whole thing came down to the finals it was the Shane Olncy team who were the winners, Donovan Burns team second and Randy Guess team third. The Warm Springs Rodeo Asso ciation worked hard to put on a fine rodeo. All the Rodeo Committee members are contestants and former contestants in the rodeo game. The stock was furnished by the Alps Ro deo Stock Contractors of Madras, Oregon. Mostofthcconicstants names who were entered here will be heard all season long as the rodeo season is under way once again. Randy Guess Team Total payout this $2490.00 1494.00 996.00 evt. $4980.00 The Kah-Nce-Ta Mini Marathon is right around the corner and is scheduled for April 25, 1992 at the , Kah-Ncc-Ta Village, 10:00 a.m. for , the 10K, 3.0, 1.0 and 9:00 a.m. for the 14.5 mile. A shuttle will leave for Simnasho at 8: 15 a.m. from the Kah-Nce-Ta Village. Pre-registration is Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. at the Community Center office. Registration on the day of the race will be from 7:30 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. at the Kah-Nee-Ta Village Pavilion. The cost of the marathon is $5.00 without T-shirt, $10.00 pre-regis tration and $ 1 2.00 on day of race. All entries will receive a raffle tickcL Course descriptions arc: 14.5 will begin at Simnasho and blend into rolling hills with two major hills on course. All blacktop from start to finish. Water stations will be at the 4.0, 8, 9.8 and 12 mile marks. 10K will be flat and blend into rolling hills with the turn around point on the main road. Water stations will be at 1.5 and 3 mile marks. 3.0 will be all pavement and the turn around point will be on the main road. Water station will be at the 1.5 mile turn around. 1.0 Fun RunWalk will be all pavcmcnL Awards will be given to the 14.5 Overall winner, male and female will receive alnightstayatthe Kah-Nee-Ta Lodge plus, a jogging outfiL First place malcfcmalc in al 1 age divisions in the 10K and 3 mile will receive awards. Also awards for 60 & over division in 14.5 mile. Age divisions arc: 60 & over, 50-59, 40-49, 30-39, 19-29, 14-18, and 13 & under. ' Discount swim passes will be given at the registration desk. The event drew 12 teams from the Northwest that conquered the rain, snow, and occasional sunshine. The event was 58.0 miles in length, and the results are as follows: 1. Kaiser 1 of Milwaukie, Or egon, 5 hours, 56 minutes, and 49 seconds. Placed overall and 1 st men 's team. Team members: Harold Polivka (captain), John Linman, Michael Schneidler, Rick Boettcher, Rich Steinberg. 2. 5 Chuck Holes of White Salmon, Washington, 6 hours, 21 minutes, and 25 seconds. To all who participated your all considered champions. Just to take the time to practice and travel to tournaments is a feat in itself," said Tony Suppah, Tournament Di rector. He went on to say, "Hats off to all the coaches who take the time to work with these kids, giving them something to look forward to on weekends.
